Good value for a reliable product.

Overall a good purchase.
Pros:
Auto-complete suggestions to fill in suggestions for towns, street names, and addresses saves time with entering the full name and helps ensure accuracy.
Hasn't gotten me lost, told me "re-routing", lost signal, or told me to "turn right now!" without advance notice.
Fairly easy to figure out, even without a manual.

Cons:
Has taken me on some different routes than what I would have taken. I'm not sure that those routes were really faster, but it got me where I wanted to go anyway, so I can't really complain too much about the change of scenery.
Requires a somewhat firm pressure on the screen to select options. It isn't horrible and I am probably spoiled from using smartphones, but it is noticeable.

This isn't an overly fancy GPS, but it has proven to be reliable and the features it does have I like. The estimated arrival times are pretty accurate and I especially like that it only allows you to enter valid addresses, which saves a lot of time in the long run.

Awesome Magellan Maestro 4700

Everything about the Magellan is Great. I had an older version which I sold on Ebay because of outdated maps and purchased a Garmin for couple of their slick and catchy features. With couple trips on the Garmin I was dying to get back on the Magellan Side. The one Feature that Magellan has and I Love more than Anything is Routing with the option of using Most Use of Freeways for your trip. Sometimes I down right felt like Stopping the Car, Taking out the Garmin, and Smashing it into tiny Pieces!!!!
Oh Yeah, the MM 4700 has an option to view in 3D, Really Cool when your around tall buildings. Battery Life could of been Better though, only around 3 Hours.

Hope this Helps ;-)

Good - but recommend looking elsewhere

After trying two other brands GPS', I decided to try out the Magellan Maestro 4700 for three reasons: (1) Consumer Reports rated this one very high, (2) combines "predicted" and current traffic monitoring to insure the quickest route possible, and (3) previous satisfaction with the "NeverLost" (made by Magellan) in Hertz rental cars. Setup was fairly easy. It quickly acquired GPS satellites - even inside my home. It was quick to figure navigation to a desired point. Voice was natural and easily understood. In route it did a great job at following turns, splits and exits. However, for two reasons, I did not keep it: (1) There is no "master" button to return to the main menu which means you have to click on "back" through all the previous screens to get back to the main menu - especially annoying during a current navigation route, and (2) though I tried using several different, clean fingertips, I often had to press on an onscreen button several times to make it work - again, especially annoying when I had to press on "back" continually to get back to the main menu. I do not recommend this GPS.Lire l'avis complet...

one great feature can"t skip

i like tat you can avoid part of route great feature when traffic etc. but actual movement is not as sharp as garmin so if someone does not need this feature go with garmin but as a rule it's a very important feature for example the gps sends you to g.w. bridge but it's closed and you don't know how to get around to a other bridge then your doomed the gps wont help you out because as long as your closer to the g.w. bridge it will send you back to the closer bridge but if you have this feature you just tell the gps to avoid the g.w. bridge on your set to go!!!!!!!!!!1Lire l'avis complet...

Magellan 4700 great gps

I had a 4250 dropped it and the screen broke. Was looking for a replacement consumers report had the 4700 listed as the second best gps unit just release with traffic. The bluetooth is excellent it automactically reconnect to your phone, where with the 4250 I had to go though the steps to reconnect,up to date maps, loaded with features, and the large screen make this an excellent gps unit for under $160.00 purchase new.If you are looking for gps units with a large screen and under $160.00 try the Magellan 4700 or the Tomtom 540s another new release the 540s has no 3D building. I think these are the best gps unit fully loaded for under $200.00. I've had the 4700 for 3 months and not one single problem. The 540s has more feature both are excellent unit and both are consumers report best buy and I have both unit and they are excellent units.Lire l'avis complet...

quite good

This unit has already paid for itself. if I had mapquested my last directions, I'd probably still be lost. the screen is big, features are great (although i turned off the voice recognition. it's a little annoying). my only real complaint is that it has frozen up a couple of times but i just had to turn it off and restart it. a minor annoyance for the sweet deal i got on it. buy this model!!Lire l'avis complet...

Magellan 4700 GPS

Viewability and operability is key and this GPS is great. I've had a Magellan before and gave it to my parents so improvements in ease of operation was better than the GPS of two years ago. Simple, go to map or input an address is easy. The bluetooth works great and I don't get a lot of hissing or background noise with this model. Clear directions and easy to read map. I like the billboard signs put up to show you the lanes ahead. My only concern is the limitation of voice commands. I can't tell the system to "call" someone or callout a location that has been stored as in some models. So the handsfree is not as handsfree as I'd like. I do like the ability to have a person stored with their address and phone number together so all I have to do is look them up in the phone book. Again, handsfree voice command would b greatly helpful here. 3 hr battery life is normal and would like to have seen some kind of sensor that detects when the car is not moving for 10 minutes to shut the system off automatically or give a warning before shutting off. An auto resume feature after turning off and back on would have been nice also. But it's accurate. Street names and directions are called out clearly. Volume control is sufficient. Haven't listend with windows open though. Love the system.Lire l'avis complet...

Great improvement over 4250

The Magellan 4700 is simple to use and very accurate. I bought this foir my wife's car to give her the latest technology and the ability to talk hands free. It updates position much faster that previous models and has the bonus of synching to her Verizon phone, so she can talk hands free while driving. She loves it, and therefore, I love it! I havw the 3250 and 4250 models, and will get another 4700 to replace the optional system in my 2004 Jaguar. The Magellan is MUCH better and I can enter addresses 30 times faster than the old tab over, select and tab over again system in the Jag.Lire l'avis complet...

Too old not supported

Purchased a used unit it works well, but touch screen does not always respond to input. Old maps Magellan no longer supports it and pulled software drivers/updatges from their inventory.

no matter where i am , magellan will always get me home

this is my third magellan and i really like the voice command
each magellan has its own features and once you get it programed to your satisfaction they are great.
i program mine to go to my new jobsites each day, and at the end of the day i simply command magellan to go home, and we are on our way
we travel to the usa and it is invaluable on the road with its lane change feature in cities that we are not familiar with. the blue tooth allows us to call ahead to book campsites or whatever is needed.
bluetooth is great where i live because we are not allowed to use cell phones while driving .
