Buy of the Year!

For the $120 I paid for this magellan 505 Im amazed at all the features. It works perfectly, does everything I would want a bike computer GPS to do and more. It definitely makes my ride a little more interesting. The only improvement I would make would be that it could be paired with any ANT sensor. I tried a sigma ANT speed sensor and it would not pair with it. I understand it cant pair with individual sensors, they must be a cadence/speed dual sensor. That aside, it works great on the road, pairs with my Galaxy smartphone easily after I downloaded the cyclo agent app and downloads the ride data to the magellan website in a flash. It will also send it to strava if I choose. I also bought the magellan 315 for backup, $99 SO CHEAP!Lire l'avis complet...

Very good product well worth the money

I was very surprised at how well it worked and all the information it provided. Computer software setup was a little difficult but not horrible. Wish the information files could be saved to computer / or phone rather than internet account. This may be possible not sure how it is done. The Magellan Cyclo 505HC provides all the features I was looking for at a very economical price compared to other products I looked at.Lire l'avis complet...

its ok,. needs improvement.

This is a good GPS computer for a bike, and from what I am told, is the last of this model. So the price was great. However, that aside.. instructions on how to use it were lacking. Software to use it was difficult to find and would not work on my windows 7 machine set up to use windows classic menus - it had to be in win 7 original mode for the Cycloagent to work.

Once I did take it out and got it going, it worked great. Showed where I rode, how fast, and all that data.. Very nice.

I ride a Tadpole trike, so the speed/cadence sensor did not work fully, as it was designed for a standard 2 wheel bike. I did set it up for cadence though and it worked flawlessly.

MFG's of future bike computers need to understand Trikes are becoming popular and the sensor package needs to be redesigned for these users.

Overall, very happy with the computer.

Very nice machine.

It has everything you need. Installation is pretty easy. You do need to sign up for a Magellan account and link the account with Strava. Extra step, but workable. Customize dashboard is a good feature, you select what you want to see and how you want them to display.Lire l'avis complet...

Cyclo 505HC 200 miles in

With room running out on my iPhone and Strava taking up a lot of storage I decided to get a dedicated GPS that would upload to Strava without needing any iPhone app. When I saw the Magellan/Mio Cycle 505HC for $120 I checked all the reviews online I could find. I saw no difference that would negatively affect my use with the Garmin's I had been looking at so I jumped on the deal.

Upon receipt of the unit I plugged it in, updated the firmware and maps and set it up. It wasn't hard to set or make different profiles for my 3 bikes but can't compare to a Garmin on ease of setup. The heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor was also a piece of cake.

Prior to my first ride I downloaded a GPX file of my commute to work and the Cyclo worked perfectly. It beeps in plenty of time to warn you of upcoming turns and turns on the back light so you can see the map of where you need to go (very helpful in the dark). After a ride you can save the route you took to Tracks so you can use the navigation to ride the same route again. Although I don't need this for my daily commute it would come in handy for rides you want to download from Strava or other sites. The MagellanCyclo site is nicely laid out so you can view all the data you saved from your rides. I don't have a power meter so I can't add how it works with one.

The provided mounts are okay but Garmin does use a better system with the rubber bands instead of ty-wraps. The "out front" mount could be longer to be out front but for the price of the unit I'll just buy a Bar Fly with the Mio adaptor.

All in all I highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a GPS unit for their bikes. The price/performance is great when purchased at the price I got my unit for. I could barely find a 5 year old Garmin for that price that didn't include maps or sensors at that price.

Great computer but...

The primary reason I purchased this computer was because I wanted to be able to download courses from my local club website. I'm older and don't have great vision and have trouble reading the small print on the cue sheets while on the move. I love knowing when the next turn is coming when I'm on the front now instead of worrying where the next turn is. The downside is the instructions are vague as to how to download the routes. As I said , I'm older and maybe It's just I' m not so tech savvy. I did figure it out after awhile and I'm not sure my process is the easiest way to do it but I really enjoy the outcome. I still haven't figured out how to link my mioshare account with my strava account. I've followed the instructions to my knowledge but have not succeeded yet. However, for the price I'm very happy with it considering a Garmin with the same capabilities is 5-600$. I couldn't bring myself to spend that on a bike computer. I only know 1 other person in my bike club that has a Magellan computer and am hoping he can help me with the strava issue. Overall very happy with my purchase.Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent computer when purchased at the right price.

Despite conflicting reviews on the quality and performance of this computer, I decided to give it a go once I was found the unit packaged with the heart rate monitor for under $120.00. I have seen this same unit listed for upwards of $500 (which I absolutely don't think it is worth) and as low as what I paid which I believe was a great deal! So far I have no complaints. I have used various speed/cadence monitors from other manufacturers (cateye, Wahoo) as well with this base unit and all appear to function fine in combination. The screen can be difficult to see in bright light (same as trying to clearly see your phone screen when it is bright outdoors). I have linked my phone via the blue tooth mode in order to control my music and it has worked great. I have not downloaded maps yet nor have I tried the "surprise me" mode. I have set up the computer to be used with multiple bikes and can easily select between them. One disappointment I do have is in regards to the cost of additional computer mounts...both Magellan's and aftermarkets...come on people...they are just small pieces of plastic.Lire l'avis complet...

A great cycling GPS

If you dislike bulky watches, this is for you!
The Good Mounts to the bar leaving you free to ride. Screen is easy to see, even in bright days. Large font and adequate dashboard settings. Very nice UI, simple and intuitive. All this with an ANT+ heart rate strap and speed/cadence sensors. Registering and syncing was easy. Auto uploads to Strava if accounts are sync'ed.

Could be Better Magellan's website is focused on the European user. Maps default to Europe. Mounting "out front" mount is difficult requiring removing tape and brake/shifter. A quick mount is also included with simple zip ties. Requires downloading cyclo agent software to access and manage via pc.

All things considered, a great device at this price.
