A technical, visual and auditory masterpiece for the Sega CD

The best game to be released for the Sega CD. The Working Designs release is MUCH better than the Game Arts version, which is full of mediocre voice acting and tacky sexual double-entendres. A great number of Japanese fans actually imported the Working Designs version.

This game technically goes the full mile. It has really good compression that allowed Working Designs to put two redbook tracks on the CD whereas the Game Arts version has only one track. However the game never plays either of the two tracks even during the ending sequence. There are fantastic FM patches such as Hiro's long sword swing.

Many players lament the unrewarding battles. In my humble opinion the battle system itself is much better than Square/Phantasy Star/Vay since it involves positional strategy making it more of a chess game than just traditional step-forward-and-slash. However some locations such as the White Dragon Cave, Taben's Peak and the Dragon's Nest can seem burdensome to experienced players, dampening the replay value some. Experienced players usually look forward to reliving the about 15 minutes total of cut scenes full of truly memorable theatrics.

Unassuming simplicity, excellent use of screen space, visceral visual and emotional cues and a technically well-executed musical score withdraw the audience into a completely engrossing fantasy world. The game's designers hoped that players would appreciate its presentation enough to forgive the overly fatiguing battles, and in some measure they accomplished it.Lire l'avis complet...

Amazing game! Go buy and play it right now!

Buy this game. Stop reading this review and go buy this game. But this game is so good that it does deserve a proper review. Let me start by saying that I actually prefer the Playstation 1 version over this one. With that being said, you absolutely have to play this version, for nostalgia's sake if nothing else. Don't get me wrong, this version is phenomonal. The graphics are much better than I was expecting them to be, the voice acting is awesome, and the battle system is second only to Xenogears (in my opinion). So what keeps it from being as good as the first one? Well, probably the fact that I should have played this version first. I made the mistake of playing the PS1 version first. You see, this version lacks the finely tuned music, story, and save system. Essentially you can't save your game progress without using magic points. A horrible idea, and it keeps the game from being a 10/10. The music and story really take a step up on the PS1 version. That's not to say they're bad on this Sega CD version. Overall though, these are little complaints, and they really shouldn't keep you from playing this game.Lire l'avis complet...

One of the best games ever made. Fun to play the original for the first time. (I have a copy of the remake on the Playstation)

One of my favorite of all time...

What more can be said for a game with great character devopment, great soundtrack and immense storyline. Even after you beat the game you go back to your save and see that the prologue is available...after you beat the game you have 15+hrs of gameplay that takes place after the game is over...wowLire l'avis complet...
