Awesome Action

I liked that Bruce Willis came back to revive his Die Hard series. I loved the previous Die Hard's as well. Probably a little bit better. I liked the last effort better, the one with Samuel Jackson. There was a rawness that kept in line with the tradition of the series that I believed Live Free or Die Hard was missing. Kind of contrived and predictable.
But, on the good side the action was second to none and there were some great action scenes that frankly I didn't think Bruce Willis would be able to pull off. He's no spring chicken.
Bruce Willis is a seriously under rated actor and I believe he's better than the critics give him credit for.
Keep 'em going Bruce you're not over yet.

Long Live McClane -- AWESOME AGAIN !!!!

"Live Free or Die Hard" is the viscerally adrenaline-charged action-fueled new installment of the "Die Hard Saga".
"A Timex Watch in a Digital Age," sneers Villain Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) of NYPD Cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) in 'Live Free or Die Hard', the exhilarating fourth installment in the "Die Hard" Series.
The first since 1995's 'Die Hard: With a Vengeance'. Willis was 40yrs old then; past 50yrs old now, the only thing he has lost is the rest of his hair. And Gabriel is right, McClane is a relic from an Analog World; yet he also forgets the Timex slogan: "It takes a licking but keeps on ticking", and so—gloriously—does McClane.
McClane remains the resolutely retro flatfoot Warrior, but Mark Bomback's screenplay reflects our Post 9/11, Post-Katrina Age where official response in a genuine crisis is assumed to be incompetent and paranoia is a reasonable emotion.
It is not that FBI Deputy Director Bowman (Cliff Curtis) and his men are incapable of doing their jobs, but when an anthrax scare, a transportation meltdown, and stock market crisis occur simultaneously, they are overwhelmed. Luckily, McClane just happens to be on the way, escorting hacking suspect Matt Farrell (Justin Long) to Washington. He already knows something's up, because somebody's trying hard to kill the kid. Matt himself turns out to be useful when he is able to diagnose the crisis as a "Fire Sale," a kind of virtual Armageddon where cyber vandals attack transportation, financial systems, and utilities.
Olyphant as the spurned Former Fed turned Terrorist who nurses an operatic dream of revenge holds the panache of such memorable 'Die Hard' bad boys as Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons.
Willis' return to the character is certainly a welcome one. This is a role he was born to play, the acerbic working stiff who freely admits fear to Matt while never blinking once the guns start blazing or stuff starts blowing up around him. He is also a throwback to the "Classic Lone Hero"; a Gary Cooper or John Wayne for the Modern Era, possessing the same sense of decency but with snappier banter.
As appealing as the characters are, it's 'Action' that propels the 'Die Hard' Movies and Director Len Wiseman does not skimp at all in that department. From the explosive opening minutes straight through to the climax, there is little pause between the gun battles, chase scenes, car crashes, and explosions. There are more pyrotechnics in this movie than in the average Fourth of July fireworks display and while there are impressive instances of CGI—including one setup involving a jet, a big rig, and an elevated roadway — many of the more arresting sequences involve old-fashioned stunt work.
There is a welcome human element to this adventure that is missing from so many other action movies now where you are always aware that what we are watching is an actor in front of a green screen. Here, McClane takes a long fall to the pavement, the meeting between body and ground is so visceral that you wince. When he bleeds, you believe it.
Sequels can be such a crap shoot. This summer's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" was a demonstrated success, while "Evan Almighty" was a massive flop. But Willis, in gambling that he could successfully revisit the character that made him a True Hero rolls "All Sevens".
This is action at its most entertaining and proof that there is a lot of life left in this franchise.
"Live Free Die Hard" is a 150% SUCCESS !!!!
Long Live McClane !

Money for Studios... That's all.

I really enjoy Bruce Willis movies, but I have to say this one was not as great as I thought it would be. People talk about "Special Effects" ... yes it does have good effects but what action movie these days doesn't? In my opinion computer effects, although an important movie making tool, has blinded people from judging the quality of the story and writing in a movie production. This is not even comparable to the first or even the other Die Hard movies. Bruce's Character in the first movie was a smart yet daring detective who out smarted his enemies to their defeat, here in this one Bruce is just a lost bully trying to use his mussel but some other guys brains to do his thinking for him (tough guy with no brains). The studios fooled many in my view to their advantage using the movies past success and name recognition. Not woth the money or time.Lire l'avis complet...

Is it possible? A Die Hard 4 with Bruce Willis again!!!

After 12 long years we finally get a 4th installment of our beloved Die Hard Series starring the one and only Bruce Willis in Live Free or Die Hard. I have to admit at first I was worried that they would go too far over the top with all the computer animated technology available, these days in movie making & editing. Even though we have come to expect nothing but over the top action packed heroism from the John McClane(Bruce Willis) character I had my initial doubts. Those doubts were very happily and quickly crushed as I sat through this mega Blockbuster Hit. This movie had me holding onto my seat with all the action and tearing from all the laughter that played out perfectly between and during all the monster action scenes in this film. We have also worried about these huge production companies dishing out crappy sequels and 3rd and 4th installments, just so they could make a buck off of a big name or series. And lately it seems to us that the major movie companies are just dishing out numbers instead of quality. They seem to think that by just adding a big name actor they can sell us any crappy script they have lying around. Sadly this is becoming more common due to younger movie goers caring more about what actors in the movie or what's on the screen, then how well the story is written and how it plays out. Maybe it's because todays kids spend more time playing video games and listening to music then reading books. Well back to the movie, Live Free or Die Hard(Die Hard 4) is a must watch and we give it 5 stars across the board. So get your popcorn out and enjoy the show. Have a wonderful movie week and God Bless.

You already know

If you haven't been frozen in time, you've probably seen all the other Die Hard films. So you already expect what's going to happen, but it still is a rush to see old Bruce in action. Hey they have to make some of the action sequences over the top to outdo the other 3 Die Hards, but there's the usual blend of humor, action, and chase scenes to overcome the overused plot. It wasn't a waste of time, in fact I just rented the DVD after seeing it in the theater. Yippekiyay!Lire l'avis complet...
