A treasure for model train collectors

When the Fort Pitt Chapter of the Train Collectors Association was formed in 1973, one of the first things they did was for a history committee. The committee decided to document everything Lionel made from 1901 until 1943, the year production halted for WW II. Great care was taken to document each piece including exact color as NIB. The first edition was published in 1976.
Over the next few years, new information became available and the authors decided to include accessories and so a new edition to the book was planned. For three years, the authors met almost weekly with the second edition released in October 1989. This book is invaluable to model train collectors and a treasure for the TCA.Lire l'avis complet...

Lionel Trains by National Tca Book Committee Staff

I have looked over the book briefly twice and I am not happy with the layout of the printed info nor about some of the photos. When compared with Greenberg's Standard Catalogs of Lionel Trains 1900-1942 and 1945-69, both by David Doyle, it seems more like a chore to read rather than a pleasure. It is true that the TCA book has a great deal of info, perhaps more about the early days while my interests are late 30's to late 40's.
Anyway I felt that I should have this book to "complete" my library of Lionel Train references.
A positive note, I like the paper cover!

This is a great coffee table book. It's also a good reference book... although not complete, it does confirm information thats available through other sources.
