Better than expected! Dragon flight and combat are fun!

Better than expected. This game is unique and analog controls really helped. Flying the dragon is fun and feels good. Air combat and ground combat are fun. I’d love to see a remake on modern consoles. Some motion controls are left for some aspects of the game which is partly why so rate it 4/5. The other reason being that the story is ok and could’ve been fleshed out but I got the sense that the game needed more time in development. But sound quality is pretty good and cut scenes are very nice. This deserves a remaster/ reboot on modern consoles.Lire l'avis complet...

Lair PS3

I generally read reviews or listen to other people's experiences with games before making a purchase. With Lair I hadn't met anyone who had played it and just about every review I read was negative. But I bought this game anyway because it looked like fun. The most common complaint seemed to be the controls of the sixaxis controller for the PS3. I thought, before buying this game, that people were letting this ruin the whole game for them. Now that I have the game, I know that is true. It's a very fun game and the controls just take some getting used to. It took me maybe twenty minutes to get comfortable with them, and luckily the opening sequences are very easy and the rest of the game is pretty forgiving of any mistakes you make. I bought the game for a very low price and I would have to say it is a great value. The gameplay is a lot of fun. Riding atop dragons in a fantasy setting with lots of strange creatures and warring tribes and castles is what I found intersesting in the first place before I bought Lair, and after playing I feel I've had a very entertaining experience.Lire l'avis complet...

Even after patch - still disappointing

I REALLY wanted to like this game.
I watched the development of this title from the first screen shot released right through it's release. Read the various interviews with the developers, and took in the assorted videos released.
Then, I read the reviews on it...nearly all scathing, for it's poorly implemented controls, and thought to myself...they can't really be that bad.
I bought the game (just recently) with the knowledge that they were releasing a patch to allow the use of the analog sticks.
I should point out that while I deal with motion control, I'm not a huge fan of it. That being said, it wasn't the motion controls in this game that annoyed me. Even after I applied the patch, and tried the analog controls, I found that the camera work for this game is simply terrible.
Graphically, as others have pointed out, it's a very nice looking game. The sound is also very good in the game. I'll continue to play through it to check out the story, as I feel it too is decent so far.
But thus far, the controls simply aren't great, even with the choice to use the analog sticks. One could probably work around the poor controls if the camera would help you out...but it doesn't. It's the very poor camera control in conjunction with the less than stellar controls that ultimately doom this game to mediocrity, when it held such promise.
In the end, I'd say your best bet is to give this one a rent. If you can get accustomed to the frustrating controls, and get past the horrific camera, and even a bit of bad targeting during combat, there is still an interesting game to be found here.
It's simply a question of if you have the endurance or persistence to stay with it through its flaws.
Sadly, for Lair, when there are so many other quality games now out, or coming very soon...I can see this game getting set aside, and not picked up again.

Better then expected

The game that sunk Factor 5. The game came out to horrible reviews, but looked good in the prviews I had watched. So a E-Bay purchase later i could try it out. The game has been patched to use the analog sticks (originaly it was just the tilt controler. I have tried both and prefer the tilt controler, it is tricky to get the hang of, but works far better then the reviews led me to believe after getting used to it. The game is pretty much like the previews, there is alot of flight fighting, shooting fireballs and a poor combat dragon to dragon (in air) fight system. The dragon to dragon fights are a waste of time and are an anoying interuption. Overall the game lives up to the hype I built for it and is a solid game. Some of the graphics are a bit crude up close, but they where ment to be seen from the sky so this is forgivable. The fighting on land is a bit harder then i expected and an early mission can be frustrating till you get the hang of it. I would recomend the game if it looked good to you in the previews.Lire l'avis complet...

Lair is a Pretty Cool Game

I just received The game, graphics are very realistic, game does suggest spending time learning how to fly the dragon. Pretty cool game. So far I have really enjoyed it. The use of the SIXAXIS controler is definately going to take some time to get used to, but its not to hard to control. I would grade the game an A-/B+. It could be a little easier to control (which could also be my inexperience) I keep getting the ground fighting and the air fighting moves mixed up. I do really like the game and look forward to improving my skill level. I wouldn't reccomend this game for amateur games or young children.Lire l'avis complet...

DragonRider, Rise to the Skies and Set the World Ablaze

This is truly, a great game and enjoyable at the very least. I have only played the first two levels, but the graphical prowess of the PS3 and the combination of great and realistic controls outshines the 360 in all ways. I know not why people complain about the controls for this game, but I find it very real-to-life as when you tilt the SixAxis unto whatever direction, the dragon follows the motion as if you are actually riding the dragon; you understand that feeling sometimes in videogames that you feel as if the main character is you. Moving on, the game is rumored to be short, but I have not comfirmed it so... I will try in the future to see. Overall and thus far, this game is quite a great game in my opinion, so buy it.Lire l'avis complet...

Nostalgia

Played this a while bunch when I first owned it 7 years ago. Getting rid of it was one of my worst mistakes ever. I absolutely love this game, and I'm having so much fun playing it again.

Superb graphics and creative storyline, but...

...but I couldn't get a handle on the controls. After wanting to break the controller several times because my dragon wouldn't turn or do a 180 reverse, I decided to sell my copy. Shaking and tilting the six-axis controller is a phenomenal idea, but it doesn't always work at critical points in the game. The dragon-and-rider concept was well-thought out. It doesn't feel like an Eragon rip-off, although there seems to be Lord of the Rings elements in the graphics. I would say this game is one of the best I've seen except for the frustrating controller issue. That ruined it for me.Lire l'avis complet...

Lair-PS3

I bought this game at Best Buy approximately $18. In my opinion, it was worth it.

You begin in training and then proceed to begin fighting the Molki. (Hope I spelled that right.) To control your Dragon, you have to tilt the controller. When fighting, you can either go physical using mainly circle and triangle. Most of the time, I found myself spitting fireballs at enemies or releasing a blast of flame. When you are on the ground on your dragon, you can eat people, burn people, or pick them up and use them as bombs. In the begging of most levels you are on your feet. This is odd because when you are on your feet, you can only walk.Lire l'avis complet...
