Enjoyable entertainment!

John Carter was one of those movies that didn't get much attention when it came out in theaters. My wife and I were going to see another popular movie,( I can't remember the name) but couldn't get seats because the time was sold out. So we chose to go see John Carter instead. I loved it, right up my alley. Action packed adventure from the beginning to the end. Great story line. I have a feeling that the near future is going to bring more light to the Earth- Mars connection.

This was a movie that nobody has really heard of, except those who love science fiction, although I don't think it's fiction. I think it's like many movies coming out these days, it's Hollywood's way of letting us in on the long awaited disclosure of what's really happening in our universe. Star Trek, Star Wars, etc., don't be too shocked, when you find out the truth that such scenarios have existed for may years. We have been kept in the dark for far too long now. A very good movie for Sci- Fi fans.

Very good movie, lovers of Edgar Rice Burroughs will not be disappointed by this presentation.
As with all book to movie stories there is a difference in interpretation, the Producer and Director do change the story content a bit while trying to keep with the book version.
The overall story does not suffer, those not familiar with the author's writing will be able to follow the story of the movie. There are a few instances that the movie watcher needs to pay attention to pick up on some things that are not thoroughly explained and keep it in mind while watching the progression of the movie. This is a movie that does require attention while watching as each moment ties in with the rest of the story.
There are a few surprises that do pop up in the movie and they are very subtle. Keep in mind there are a few parts where they have to explain by showing and not telling and the watcher is supposed to make the connection.
Enjoy this movie for the story that it is and know that there will be a sequel...Lire l'avis complet...

I was skeptical that disney could make a good sci-fi especially w/actors vs animated but you have to remember unlimited funds are good for movie budgets .
Its basically a love story something like a cross between beauty and the beast and star wars , the acting is good the story engaging and great special effects .
Due to the violence I suggest parents watching this first .
This is not like shrek or Lion king this is a good non animated sci-fi film that I am happy to add to my permanent collection ( and I am picky ) .
I did enjoy shrek and lion king but this is different .

John Carter (DVD, 2012)

The story is well-written, the characters are fleshed out, the FX enhance the story not overshadow it, and the acting is excellent. The stunning Lynn Collins steals the show with her performance as Princess Dejah Thoris, Taylor Kitsch is admirable as Carter, and Willem Dafoe is perfect as the Thark leader Tars Tarkas. Andrew Stanton did a great job directing, the score is memorable, and the visuals are breathtaking.

If you haven't read the original books (which are absolute classics), you will enjoy this movie because it's a great movie. If you're already a fan of the books, you'll love the movie despite some of the changes John Carter was never married before he went to Mars, for one, which can be overlooked. Do not let the critics stop you from seeing this movie. This movie is a wonderful addition to the world of John Carter.Lire l'avis complet...

A Good Movie and pleasant surprise from Disney...

Anyone who has read a Barsoom tale by the legendary writer, Edgar Rice Burroughs knows just how good this movie adaptation was. It really bothered me how much some people bashed this movie because of 'Avatar' and the like. Where do you think guys like James Cameron, George Lucas, and Stephen Spielberg got their 'original' ideas from? I just hope that Disney has the sense to make another Barsoom film soon.

Now the reason that I said 'pleasant surprise from Disney' was not because Disney puts out horrible movies. But rather that the apparent lackluster advertisement and support made it seem as if they wanted this movie to fail. I admit that it is not a 'nonsensical' movie like 'Pirates of the Caribbean' (What is?) But the movie is fun to watch and the effects are 'spot on' as well.Lire l'avis complet...

Great Movie, panned by critics, but WTF do they know?!

This is a great movie. The critics didn't like it because it reminded them of other movies. Yeah, so what, there was enough uniqeness to keep me interested. So what if Coneheads borrowed from the narfle the garthog scene? If you fed that attitude for any length of time, you wouldn't ever see a new movie. Let's face it, there are seven original plotlines on this planet; everything's been done before. With that in mind, just watch and enjoy...and relish the originality that does exist in this film, along with the very talented cast, including the esteemed cast of "Rome". This was a great film. As far as "would I buy it again?", that would be 'yes', as a gift. This purchase was a gift for ME. As far as how this product compares to others...well I bought a pair of earrings too, but I wouldn't wear this on my head, I'd just watch it and enjoy it. Make sense?Lire l'avis complet...

Great movie

I saw this movie at a friends house and had to have, action pack and a good story base. The DVD I got was in VERY GOOD condition, I would buy from this person again.

Enough twist and turns to entertain the "I know what's gonna happen next person" and swashbuckling too !! who knew ?? Not me !

Great "sleeper movie" great movie for older kids in family(first few scenes - language)
other than that wow get the popcorn and cruse !!

SciFi sfx gig with some better than average acting, and complex storyline..

John Carter is, for starters, a long movie; it's a 3hr ride.

And ride it is. It does well with SFX and colors.
It does well with action, and the right amount of downtime.
The story is a bit hard to follow at times, and is kind of broad in scope. It's def not for kids.

The acting is pretty decent, and Lynn Collins is very BEAUTIFUL in her portrayal in Dejah Thoris. Wow is she smokin hott! :-)

If you like SciFi creatures, good visuals & sound, and a pretty maiden that can fight, this movie is for you.

wow! what a thrilling and engaging movie. great colors and characters brought to life, fun , fun , fun...!
