Where art thou, In Absentia?

I love music. A lot! I've watched as many of my favorite bands gain popularity and upon the release of one of their later albums, hear others exclaim their delight in discovering "this new band" that I've been enjoying for years.

This was my turn in being left out. An old friend recommended PT when I saw him again after years, and in trusting his taste I got "In Absentia". I then had to promptly get some of their other albums.

Going from driving guitars and drums in "Blackest Eyes" to a light piano lullaby that you can unwind to with "Collaps The Light Into Earth", Steven Wilson and crew creates diverse and thoughtful music in each song.

If I could have my dream of being in a band, it would be one such as Porcupine Tree. I just wish I had heard of them long before their seventh album.

continuous play of bliss.

I use that as a title because that's exactly what I did. You like one song on here, you'll like the others. This cd has that continous feeling of being trank'd, or when the dentist dope's you up for pulling teeth or something. you feel content with the world while listening to this cd.

Many songs.

If you like Coldplay, A Fine Frenzy, Five For Fighting etc., you will want this cd. If nothing else, at LEAST get it for the song "Trains". I play guitar, and that one's fun to learn.

Porcupine Tree - A Cure for the Common AOR Formula

Until a couple of months ago, I had never (due to lack of exposure) heard of Porcupine Tree. "In Absentia" is my new favorite CD! It's one of those rare albums that I bought without knowing what to expect and now can't seem to get enough of it. The sound quality (mixing) is 2nd to none. The writing (lyrical & melodical) is brilliant as well as the compositional layout. I found it obvious that these guys had been around a while. Nobody is this good and refined having just sprung up out of nowhere. This is a mature rock band that masterfully combines progressive, hard, and acid rock with elements of ambient music. I'm now looking forward to discovering the fairly extensive library of music these guys have been putting out since the 80's as well as what's yet to come.Lire l'avis complet...

Quality Prog rock.

Pretty cool rockin' prog rock. Fits in well with my Genesis and Marillion collection. Good quality recording and production values. Have only heard it 3 or 4 times so this could go from a solid 4 to a 5, easily.Lire l'avis complet...

The perfect album by PT

For me it's the best album of this band. It has the essence of this guys and it shows the power of an excellent prog-rock band. Plus, this is the first album with Gavin Harrison, and i believe the evolution of the band's music has a lot to do with his performance.Lire l'avis complet...

Must have for those that like to trance

This music tweaks the same enjoyment area's as Pink Floyd, although I wouldn't call them too similar. Their mellow can be more mellow, but their hard side is far harder. Gilmour is still the king of guitar solo, but music is old fashioned sit down and listen to it trance out stuff.Lire l'avis complet...

My brother turned my husband on to this music a short time ago. He liked it so much he asked for a cd for Christmas.I had never heard of them before. We both enjoy the unique sound. It goes from metal to mellow. We both love this music and plan to buy more.Lire l'avis complet...
