Ice Hockey (NES, 1988)

This game is a very fun sports game for the NES. It's fun to play and doesn't get old fast. Picking from 3 types of characters (fat, average, skinny) makes this game better as you can pick from a variety of combinations to make your team supreme. Picking all fat players will make you hard shooters, big body checkers, but very slow in skating. Average players well, are of course average in every aspect. Skinny players are very fast, but at the cost of have weakend shooting and bad body checking.
The only thing I disliked about this game was the controls of moving your character was a little hard to maneuver in the direction you wanted to go. Also it was kind of annoying whenever you moved your player the goaltender moves aswell, so trying to attack the opposing team shooting while controlling your goalie at the same time became a little costly in goals.
Overall this game is quite fun and a nice addition to add to your NES game library.

Awesome game

This game is very addictive and fun, also challenging. The music is great. You can play it against the computer with different difficulties or you can play it against a friend, which is more fun :)

Classic 8 bit game. Ice Hockey Rules.

This game is famous for letting you choose the size combination of your 4 linemen. Thin and fast, Medium, and Large and slow (but with the strongest slapshot.) Lately I've been using two thin and two large. You're always controlling the goalie so when the team gets into your defensive zone, you better just focus on protecting the goal. The best tactic for scoring, just like real hockey, is to do a quick shot off of a pass in front of the goal. There's a check button but I rarely use it. Pick from national teams like US, USSR, Canada, and Sweden. The one major fault in this game is : No Season or Playoff Mode. What I'll do is play as the US against Sweden, then Canada, then USSR or something like that. Regardless, for 1988, this is one of the best sports games of the decade.Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent and enjoyable hockey game that anyone can pick-up and play.

Ice Hockey by Nintendo is a fantastic hockey game for the NES. It's very simple in concept, and it is extremely easy for anyone to play. The most novel concept in this game is the ability to design your own team. There are five players for each team on the rink at a time, four customizable players, and a goalie. You can choose between a skinny, fast, but weak player, a medium-sized all-arounder, or a fat, slow, but strong player. You can also choose what positions you want each to play, having 2 offensive and defensive players. The goalie always remains the same, and is controlled simultaneously with you defensive players. It's very hard to play defense and move the goalie simultaneously, so it's best to pick one and focus on it. There are a six national teams to choose from: USA, USSR, Canada, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, and Poland. You can set the speed at which the players move, on a scale from 1-5, making for a faster of slower game. You can also set the time for each quarter to be 7, 10, or 15 minutes.

Overall, I recommend this game to anyone looking for a fun and engaging hockey game. The only true competitor to this game is Blades of Steel, by Konami. It does have much better and detailed graphics, compared to the simpler, blockier Ice Hockey graphics. It's also more focused on checking and fighting during the game, where as in Ice Hockey that's not so prominent, and there will usually only 1-2 players pulled out for a power play each game. It's probably best to check out both and see which one you like better. I personally prefer Ice Hockey, and enjoy it's more minimalistic graphics, but for those who really do care about how the game looks, Blades of Steel might be a better bet.

Classic

Always liked the option of picking team mates. Gives variety within the team. AI seems to be very competitive at this time. lost first game 13-1 against USSR. Graphics are good if it was the 80's again.Lire l'avis complet...
