My IBM Model M review

This is THE keyboard that paved the way for all modern keyboards. While it isn't perfect (mainly plastic rivets that will break on the inside due to age), it is built like a tank. It is heavy, but still lighter than a IBM Model F. They can get pricey, but with a little care, this keyboard will be good for another 30 years. If you want a quiet and light keyboard, this isn't it. If you want a professional typists keyboard with a legendary history, excellent build quality and the ability to work with a modern computer (PS/2 port or use with an active USB converter) then this is the keyboard for you.Lire l'avis complet...

The historic standard for any keyboard.

If you are into retro computing, collecting, or simply want the best there ever was in this category then this is the keyboard to have. As a collector and retro computing hobbyist- there is no substitute. Built to last using materials and manufacturing methods that the new keyboards just can't hope to compete with. Dependable and a joy to use. The "classic click and feel" when typing on a model M is simply an experience that many have tried to copy, but none have matched.Lire l'avis complet...

Lexmark IBM Keyboard

The Quality of this keyboard is no longer being Matched. I have had one of the same type for 30 years of constant use. About 6 years ago i saw one on sale for $500, and did not have the money on hand at that time to buy it. Got this one for less than $200 in excellent condition. I am very pleased to have obtained this itemLire l'avis complet...

The world's best keyboard

The IBM model M is the best and most unique feeling keyboard I've ever typed on. The condition is excellent especially considering it is 28 years old. All the keys are working and fully functional, none of the keys feel inconsistent with the rest of the board.Lire l'avis complet...

I couldn't imagine typing on a better keyboard.

Spend the money, typing has never been more pleasurable. By far the best investment I could've made on a keyboard. Let's say this I've been typing my whole life and I'll never go without a model M in my home again.Lire l'avis complet...

Amazing.

Amazing really is the word to describe it. After attaching the PS/2 cable to a converter (which you can get off of ebay or amazon), I got my 1988 unit working on my modern laptop. It's hands down the best typing experience I've ever had on a keyboard. Not only does it have the iconic sound, but the actual FEEL of it is incredible. The buttery smooth action of the buckling springs as you press down the keys make you feel more connected to the keyboard and whatever it is you're typing. The keys are shaped in just the perfect way so you don't fat-finger across them and mistype a word. These things are built like tanks too. The unit itself is heavy and made of thick plastic and metal, making it incredibly durable.

Thank God Unicomp bought all the licenses to the buckling spring technology. They picked up where IBM/LEXMARK left off, so Model M keyboards are still being produced to this day. I'd hate to loose the ability to buy new buckling spring keyboards, because I don't think I could go back to any other type of keyboard, even other mechanical ones.

But as for my original IBM unit, I will use it until the day it dies and stays dead, or when converters stop being made for it and it's forever incompatible.

IBM Model M

Not a cheap keyboard by any means, but it is built with a real commitment to quality. A typist keyboard, the model M is the predecessor to ALL modern keyboards. The buckling spring technology used to create this keeb provides a crisp, tactile button press that even with modern topre and cherry designs, are still relevant and unmatched. As they are quite bulky, they were truly built to last. Don’t live with regret, buy one for yourself.Lire l'avis complet...

Everything i hoped for

Best keyboard for my typing style. If you type with a significant amount of force, you will enjoy this keyboard. The tactility is second to none and the auditory feedback is great.

Great Keyboards!

I tried out an older model F IBM keyboard for awhile to see if I liked it or not. I did; I loved the loud "clacking" sound the keys made and how they felt, but the key layout on those is quite a bit different than current keyboards, so I looked on ebay and found a "clicky" model M. Modern keyboards get their basic key layout from the model M. BTW - model F kbds are "clacky," and much louder than "clicky"!

These are such good keyboards to type on. Yes, they make some sound when you are typing but they were made SO much better than most of the kbds you can buy today. Highly recommended but be diligent in looking for a used one; it's easy to miss replaced or missing keycaps and stuff like that. But well worth the effort to find a good one!
