SMALL modification required
I'd like to start by saying I haven't plugged this in to test it yet so I can't speak as to the sensitivity issues that other reviewers mentioned. But the joystick feels nice and tight, and it looks pretty much the same as well. The only issue I had with it was getting it to fit inside my OEM controller. So it looks like the manufacturer has ziptied the cables that connect to the board together in an attempt to keep them nice and flat. I'm sure they did this with good intentions, but this inadvertently makes the entire part a tad too big to fit inside the case. The plastic part of the zip tie itself prevents the case from closing all the way. I spent about twenty minutes trying to figure out why it wasn't closing before I stumbled upon the issue. You should be able to just snip the tie off and be good to go, but I was able to take an X-Acto knife and shave down just enough to where the zip tie was still in place, but I was able to close the case as well. I don't recommend doing this unless you have a VERY steady hand because if your hand slips, you cut into one of the cables, and render the part useless. Decent replacement for general use.
Bought 5 of these and used them to replace original sticks. These use potentiometers instead of the original optical sensor units. They are a direct fit and don't require any modification. I have heard of them needing the connector filed down to fit, but mine appeared to already be filed down and all fit well. All 5 worked fine on arrival.
The sensitivity is a bit high but that's partly the higher tension spring. I tried installing the old springs, but they don't fit right. Takes some getting used to. For racing games requiring precise steering, these don't seem ideal as it's very hard to be accurate. For Smash and other games, they work fine. They seem to have proper range in all directions.
I'd recommend disassembling them and adding a lubricant to the moving parts. I used Tamiya Ceramic grease.Lire l'avis complet...

Okay, but not as good as OEM.
As another reviewer mentioned, this hardware is different than the original joystick, which used optical sensors. The result is a cheaper product with less accuracy. For general gaming (like Super Mario 64) this is fine, but FPS games (like Goldeneye) can be difficult b/c precise aiming is a pain. I hooked up an original N64 controller with a tight stick, an old controller with this replacement stick, and a new generic aftermarket controller, then loaded Goldeneye. The OEM one works just as you'd expect. The aftermarket one is pretty bad (for precise aiming). The one with this replacement stick seems to fall somewhere in between, but still difficult to aim.
As far as recommending this product, that's a grey area. If you have an old controller with a busted stick and you just want to play Smash Bros. or Mario or Zelda it's a decent buy. Alternatively you can buy an new aftermarket controller from a retro-gaming shop for a few dollars more and it would do about the same, without the hassle of tearing apart a controller. I've bought several different ones over the years and they have all worked about the same. For precise controls I'd recommend springing for an original N64 controller with a tight stick and taking very good care of it. Save this stick and the aftermarket controllers for Mario Party punishment sessions.

Better than broken, but not as good as brand new
This installs super easily and feels great to play. But, it isn't EXACTLY the same calibration as the original. It has a slightly different size dead zone and is a little more sensitive, which is great for some things and not great for others. Direct fit, very sensitive
Direct fit, plug and play, easy to install. Only downside is it is impossible to use on GoldenEye with turbo mode on, they are just too sensitive. I had to play normal bond mode like the neighborhood kid who could never unlock turbo mode and always accidentally deleted his dossier file.Lire l'avis complet...

A good option for replacement
This stick is good but certainly not great. First of all the wire harness is juuuust barely long enough and you will need to cut the wire tie very carefully with a small set of dikes or similar tool to get it to wrap around where the oem wire ran. Otherwise the cables will be smashed in between the two halves of the controller shell and likely cause some issues. Beyond that, gameplay with this stick is pretty good but will take some getting used to for me at least. It seems there is a much larger deadzone than the original one. Also the range seems different almost like the stick itself is shorter than the original. But maybe that’s just me and I’m sure these things vary a bit from one to another. Overall I’m happy with it and just glad that i found a good drop in replacement at a good price! It’s a shame Nintendo doesn’t make replacement parts for their stuff. They’d sell tons of them but whatever.

Will not fit original controller
After multiple attempts to install this, using the instructions included, I couldn't get my controller back together properly. It's advertised as being a tight fit but is also said to work just fine in an original controller. I tried this in two different original controllers and like near broke one trying to put it back together with this thing in place. Ended up just gutting it for parts to fix my broken stick. Replacement joystick
Arrived on time in a neat packaged box. The shell design bit different from the original one in controller. It fit super tight, and had to fiddle with trimming a little plastic. I tried in another controller i had apart and fit little better so assuming there is some varience with the older controllers. But plugged right in on circuit board and works flawlessly with system. Seems maybe a tiny bit more senstive but that could also be its been long time since ive played n64.
Either way definitely recommended this to repair a loose/ broken joystick, since every one ive picked up or bought was loose and most cheap 3rd party ones feel cheap and dont control properly... so great way to revive older hardwareLire l'avis complet...

Works great but may require modification.
The piece functions quite well, however, there are a couple of issues with the overall design. It’s not an exact copy of original hardware which may be why I had issues putting it in my OEM controller. It’s possible these are designed for after market controllers in general which may have a different layout within the controller. The connecting bit to the OEM controller is a tad too large. It is, exactly, what you’d expect from aftermarkets.
The part itself seems to be a tad different from the original. On the original the stick is analog and easy to assemble/disassemble. This replacement is measured differently and is slightly more complex to assemble/disassemble. It has a board on the outside of the part rather than the inside, and has a small ziptie around the wires that lead to the board. The ziptie makes it too large to close the shell properly, meaning you have to remove it. Not only this, but the plug on the part is actually too big for the socket on the board. If you want it to fit you actually have to get a gauge or exacto knife and trim down the hard plastic on the plug.
