My GF and I really enjoyed this

Hoodwinked

This movie was hilarious. It has a great cast (Anne Hathaway, Anthony Anderson, Glenn Close, Jim Belushi, Patrick Warburton, and Andy Dick) and the animation is crisp and clean.

The humor will have both children and adults laughing their buns off. This is one of the better animated feature films to come out in the last 3 years.

Rent or Buy?: I rented it and have seen it twice on the movie channel. I'm also 22. If you have children you should buy this film for them, if you don't a rental will do.

Hoodwinked- not as dumb as my teen thinks

I bought this on a friend’s recommendation. Here I am an old 45 year guy buying an animated movie. My children, the youngest 15, finds this a bit odd. They might be right because I’m keeping mine, and when I’m 70 I’ll bring out the antique DVD player and watch it some more.
Let’s rip through the likes first. Story line and originality were good. Taken a story we all know and put a new twist from all angles on it. That I think is the best quality. Secondly the humour is done well: appeal to both the adults and children intertwined through the movie. Things adults remember they do subtle spoofs on to keep us interested and then obvious humour for the children. They’ve hit in with humour teens will catch on too.
The third best part of the film is the songs. I really liked them. The soundtrack CD I’ve checked on purchasing but ended up having to get only a couple of the songs on line.

What didn’t I like? In 1990 the animated would have been awe inspiring. In 2006 with computer graphics in movies and animation at such high levels, the animation leaves something to be desired. Characters move a bit robotic, it’s not the high quality we’ve been spoiled on with the big budget movies. The last little negative on the film, was the bad guy was fairly easy to predict, but that’s not a reason to not buy it.

Are You a Chevy Chase/Fletch Fan?Then This isYour Movie

More about Fletch later, but first let me tell you....

I finally broke down and bought this movie, because we were borrowing it from my parents so much. They are in their late 40's and they love it. We have two toddlers and they both love it. My husband doesn't care much for animated movies, but he is actually the one that asked me to buy it!!

This movie is loosely based on the fairy tale Red Riding Hood as you probably already know. The all star voice cast includes - Andy Dick, Anne Hathaway, David Ogden Stiers, Glenn Close, Jim Belushi, Patrick Warburton, & Xzibit. What I haven't seen in any reviews, is the fact that it is so far from the expected, you actually should watch it twice to let it all sink in. I must admit, the first time I watched it, I wasn't too hot on it. Then we watched it again and I started to spot all the little details and one liners. (HINT: Turning the subtitles on while watching brings deeper enjoyment as you can hardly understand the chipmunk. Plus you catch more of the jokes.)

The wolf by far is my favorite character. He is based on Chevy Chase's character Fletch. He is an investigative reporter that is trying to crack the case of the goody bandit and is forever being mis-understood and suspected. His squirrel sidekick, Twitchy, is a crack up. Together they help crack the case at the end. In the meantime, watch for many "Fletch" references, everything from an afro haired basketball player in a purple and yellow jersey (sound familiar?) to a guy in disguise that can't stop talking and won't give the same last name when asked. My favorite line from the wolf is, "As God as my witness, you will learn to speak." Watch for it in the movie when he is talking with Twitchy.

Some other great scenes are when the always prepared, singing mountain goat "does not feel prepared", when Granny's secret, double life is exposed, the slow motion snowboarding fight scene, and the famous Schnitzel Song sung by all the little German children and the schnitzel-on-a-stick truck driver, "Kirk the Woodsman", also an avid endorser of Paul's Bunion Foot Cream, it sends Bunion's running for the hills. Plus many others.

All in all, a must have for your collection. 5 out of 5 stars. I really hope they make over more fairy tales in this fashion. Great stuff.

Lackluster

I watched this one and must say that overall it failed to impress. It did not annoy, and did not flop. I just had no real wow factor.

Considering that it was not made five years ago, the quality of the computer animation is inexcusable. My PC does far better in real time playing any number of video games. The story saved the movie as it is actually a decent and well executed plot - but it won't have much rewatch value, so rent. Don't buy. That offset the poor animation.

Then we toss in the characters. I rate most of the characters as good to excellent. I especially love the Wolf and his sidekick the squirl. But then they had to have some truely abysmal musical scenes that just grated like fingernails on the chalkboard. Oh my! Red is Blue? Where's the fast forward?

Conclusion: It is OK, and could obviously been better had someone wished it to be. Rent it. Don't buy it.Lire l'avis complet...

i LOVE the originality of this movie!!!!!!!

so basicly this is the REAL story of little red riding hood.... i LOVE IT, basicly they take all of the characters and make a crime scene, then each character tells their side of the story and it all comes together in the end, it is so cute!!!
i cant wait to see them do this theme with other fairy tales!!!
so in this case the set up is the cities secret recipe books everywhere are being stolen, putting everyone out of business .... little reds is the final one.... everyone is a suspect, red, the wolf, even granny.....
so when red comes to grannys and a wolf is pretending to be her, and granny comes out of the closet tied up with a squirel sitting on her shoulder, and then right at the peak of confusion a crazy german lumberman with an ax jumps through the window screaming!!!!!!!! .....
everyone has a side of the story that youll never beleive to explain the whole situation......
then comes the chase of the bandit.....
this movie is funny, and unique..... the whole family should enjoy it!!Lire l'avis complet...

Hoodwinked for my children

I am one of those micro-managing moms who scrutinizes what my children watch on TV, on the computer and in movies. I can be hard to please, but this movie was an easy sell. We rented it one weekend, and the kids clamored to watch it over and over. Days after returning it to the store, the whole family was still singing songs from it and quoting the goofy goat who taught us "Be prepaaarreed." We're still laughing. Great entertainment for the family. Even some good life lessons to discuss in very light-hearted fashion.

BTW - the kids didn't just get the movie as a freebie. They had to work for it - I am a toughie, you see.Lire l'avis complet...

Little Red Ridding Hood Retold

We really enjoyed this movie - although it was based from a story when we were younger. This has a great twist! This Granny Rocks! Great movie to teach young children investigation techniques... Great movie for the entire family where the adults will enjoy some of the humour and comedy. The various characters will keep the attention of the younger children. "Hoodwinked" is classic satire!

When I first saw "Hoodwinked," I knew immediately that this was going to be a movie worth watching to the end. "So, you think you know the story of Little Red Riding Hood?" is the opening line and the movie from then on totally throws everything classic about the story of "Little Red" out the window! Simple, but stylish computer animation, excellent voice talent, catchy songs, and jokes that continue to build upon themselves all contribute to this family-friendly experience (the kids will love Japheth the Goat - guaranteed).
