Nostalgia for the first Reading....

What can you say about a Hardy Boys book? It's a perfectly satisfactory product of the Stratemeyer mill. I remember loving it when I first read it at age 7. Zipping through it this time to see if I could recover any of that old feeling, I was struck by how comically little Leslie McFarlane, the man behind this effort of "Franklin W. Dixon," knows about how counterfeit money operations are financed or the challenges of printing the stuff and distributing it. At least almost no knowledge of that sort gets into the text.
