Is Rob Zombie's Halloween Good?

When I first heard Rob Zombie was doing a Halloween movie, before I knew it was a "reimagining" of the original, I was excited to say the least. I did not like H20 or Resurrection, and thought Rob would do "The Shape" justice. So, did he? Well...the first thing I noticed was the dialogue, and how atrocious it was. I'm not opposed of the "F" word, though it is used liberally-and I mean liberally-throughout. I liked The Devil's Rejects, and I think that's where Rob Zombie excells, but this is Halloween. Michael Myers. Maybe I had a preconceived idea of how the character and a Halloween movie should be, but Rob's vision didn't quite hit the mark. The movie is really a two story, the first telling of a troubled young Michael Myers, leading up to the murders, and his time spent in the institution. I personally didn't care to see this type of backstory. I wanted to see the white mask, and boy do we get it. The second half deals with that, and this is Michael Myers at his scariest in a long time. At first I didn't like the movie, but I really wanted to as it had a lot of good ideas, and nice visuals. Myers is brutal as a troubled young boy and a grown psychopath, but the movie has a very different flavor than the original film series. There are a couple versions of the film, with a different institution escape. EIther one is fine. Personally, I liked the theatrical cut for this reason.Lire l'avis complet...

Widescreen Theatrical Version?? YAAAY!!! =}

Rob Zombie did an excellent job paying homage to "He" who is, imho, the greatest stalker/slasher icon of all time. His casting of the young Michael Myers was a magnificent. Daeg Faerch is riveting in the role: portraying so much that was evil and so much that was sympathetic in the same character at such a young age as an actor. Faerch's presence was so strong that Zombie's re-casting of this role added just another element of Colossal Failure to the much poorer Halloween II (keeping with tradition there, I guess) for me. Some of the backstory of Zombie's Halloween dragged a bit (Sheri? Really?), but all in all, his rough fleshing out of the character seemed to add to Michael's mystique rather than destroy it. I would highly recommend this Theatrical Version of the film to any fan of the original Halloween without hesitation.

The Unrated Director's Cut on the other hand -> its one gratuitous, overly graphic, flow-destroyingly dragged out scene of unnecessary non-Michael related violence is enough for me to screeeeaaam "!!!Stay Away!!!!". No further details needed if you've ever seen it. If only I'd known before that the theatrical version DID include a widescreen print, I could have avoided the trauma...

Very good movie

Thought it went more in depth with Micheale Myers and the story behind him killing his sister and his time in the mental hospital. I like the orginal as well but felt like the story could have done more for the events leading up to the killing of his sister and time in the nut house. Rob Zombie, I feel, explained it more and what lead up to Micheal becoming what he did.Lire l'avis complet...

"Good, But You Can't Beat The Original!"

Malcolm McDowell stars in Rob Zombie's 2007
horror remake of John Carpenter's 1978 film.
A doctor hunts an escaped killer searching
for his sister. This is good, but you can't
beat the original. This dvd has nice picture
and sound plus neat extras. I still recommend
this.

Halloween is back

The movie was great, and a great tribute to the original. Zombie delivers an edge of your seat slasher film that fills in the holes in the Michael Myers story. We are given more of a portrait of his background, and what exactly made him tick. A must see for any fan of the series, and a great option for a fan of the genre. Easily better than any film in the series since the first sequel hit the big screen.Lire l'avis complet...
