Nice portable, functional, and great looking device and iPad alternative.

Terrific device that works better than expected. The visuals are great for pictures and the Internet. One can create several accounts for email, social networking, and photo storage. It also has a nice apps store which should expand. Storage capacity can be expanded by getting a free 50gb Boxes account. the only drawbacks for me are difficulties accessing the files system and playing videos located on the device and attracting smudges. It plays Youtube, Dailymotion, and demo videos very well, however, I cannot locate the vidwos I uploaded to the device for play. The glossy finish attracts fingerprints, but does clean-up well witht he included cleaning cloth.

I bought it because it was inexpensive and not an Android, Windows or Mac. I love it's size and was able to type on it very easily. The office program included is limited in creation options, but it does work with Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and PDFs. Do not plan to do major editing though. I did have trouble downloading documents from the web, but was able to transfer them from another computer and they worked. WebOS looks promising and can pair with Palm to make phone calls. However, I have Android and RIM, but I understand the limitation.

I am satisfied with this product and look forward to using it more in the future.

Not perfect, but good for the price!

It's still early days, as I've only had it 3 days, but first impressions are as follows...

The positives:
1. Cheap, after HP discounted them all. Even taking into account the mark-up that resellers on eBay are charging.
2. It's not an iPad.
3. The "just type" function is good - as it says you just type whatever it is you're after - be it a website, app, contact, calendar item etc. - and it brings up the choices.
4. Display is good and clear.

The negatives:
1. Availability of apps. Still some way to go to catch-up with iPad, Android (and even Blackberry). With the exception of Kindle, I have everything I actually need though.
2. I can't seem to get the Kindle app at all. One of my justifcations for getting a Touchpad was that I could use it instead of my Kindle. This is the biggest issue for me.
3. Because I imported mine from the US, it comes with a US charger which has a output higher voltage rating (5.3V) than all my other microUSB chargers, meaning that I can't use them, or my minigorilla when travelling. If I try to, the Touchpad refuses to charge and tells you it wants richer food!

To get the best use out of it I've had to move all my calendar stuff to google, and the same with my contacts as this is better than synching with Outlook. But this now means that all my devices (PC, Touchpad and Blackberry) do all have the same stuff now and ultimately is better.

But overall I'm happy with it taking into account how much I paid for it, and the one star drop is due to the Kindle and charging irritations.

Great Product -- Incredible Buy -- Glad that I made this Purchase!

I wanted a high quality notebook at a great price and after many months and much research, I decided to purchase the 32GB Touchpad even though I knew what was going on with HP and the TP Issue. I am so glad that I made that decision. This is a high quality, well built and extremely polished tablet.

As am admitted "Tech Junkie", I am impressed with the user interface and ability to multi task with the Touchpad. Although I don't use many apps, my biggest complaint is the lack of utility and magazine applications.

My wife has the IPAD 2, my daughter has a Samsung android tablet but they will admit that love the Touchpad more. Thank goodness that HP is keeping their promise to continually update WebOS.

Overall one of the best tech decisions that I have EVER made!

An excellent device unfortunately hampered by a poorly managed HP

As an owner of both an iPad 64GB WiFi and now this Touchpad I can say that I have a lot more fun using the Touchpad.

It is slightly larger but both weigh close and the more rounded back is more comfortable to hold than the thinner iPad.

iPad definately has more applications but the ones the Touchpad does have work very well. You can out of the box edit and save documents on the Touchpad obtained from your google docs account, or setup a new Box account or both simply and easily and also save the files locally from these sources (as well as others) for times you wont have access to WiFi.

Touchpad is also not hindered from being closer to an actual computer like the iPad is by Apple's lockdown of most capabilities.

Would have done better in the marketplace if these differences were touted and the pricepoint wasnt set the same as the iPad.

Nice product and great value!

I bought this tablet for the WebOS operating system. Its uniqueness was a selling point. I had done my research and there were a lot of pros and cons to this tablet, but price, open source & Beats audio were it for me. Android maybe the "IT" OS now, but I prefer a simpler OS although with this tablet I can download Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The ease of navigation is unsurpassed, especially for what I use it for. Not many apps, but I'm not an app person anyway. My suggestion: if you want a simple easy to use tablet, this is the one!Lire l'avis complet...

Older hardware with great capabilities at an unbeatable price.

Bought this as a good starter tablet for my teenaged son. It came with a preexisting hacked dual boot of android in addition to web os.

Price was unbeatable, especially considering the capabilities of this tablet. It gives him an opportunity to experience two mobile operating systems and ensures I won't have a massive coronary if he drops it tomorrow.

The hardware is starting to show it's age...relatively small RAM and a dual core GPU in today's age of tablets with quad core processors and 2gb of ram. But it is sufficient for most basic tasks. Battery life was average. It's also a relative brick compared to today's models, and it's display is almost atari pixelated compared to today's offerings.

But it still can be obtained at roughly 1/2 of what a 2013 nexus 7 costs. If you're scraping pennies and want to try tablet computing, this is the best place to start.

Best bang for your buck

Back in 2009 i was one of the select few who owned a Palm Pre, it was a marvel to experience the webOS atmosphere. With a joint community and fellow homebrew patchers, the ecosystem was thriving. Two years later, and where at a hardware standstill, with HP declairing fire prices to liquidate all stock pertaining WebOS, the community is at a cross-road. Not for me anyways ;)

I was one of the fortunate ones to snag a TP for firesale price($100/$150), even at $200 the price vs. product is phenomenal. There are a few frowned outlooks pertaining the TP such as lack of apps (around 1k official), few & dwindling accessories, and most importantly lack of hardware support. With no more new WebOS devices hitting the market and questionable future of webOS as a whole, people are wandering whether future software support will be given. As of today the support is full pledged, but HP's indecisiveness is irksome.

If that still doesn't stop you(which it certainly shouldn't), the TP is one of the best pieces of hardware if owned for the buck, with its full array of features, including a full out homebrew community, which has supported webOS software wise since its inception. Id say when you buy a TP it feels half-baked, but after all the homebrew patches, software, cpu overclock(1.5/1.7ghz), etc... it feels as if i never left my original Palm Pre in the dusk.

I wouldnt trade this for an IPad. Great product..

Gotta luv the HP Touchpad. Unless you paid full price.. and then. it’s still not all that bad.
When i first got this, i had to get adjusted to the way the OS worked. I was used to the IPad. Since then I have made a few tweaks and am now adjusted as to how this works. I use it a lot to watch shows and movies and play games. and i do like the WEBOS. I’ve heard that this can also run the Android which will be one of my next adventures in completing.
I do have to say, compared to the $600 IPad, this is quite better. the front face camera isn’t much to boast about, but its good enough for Skyping. if you one of the lucky ones to have this in your possession, I’m sure you would agree that this is one of the great Touch Pads in the market (or used to be in the market). and if you don’t have one, well my suggestion is to get one and experience it firsthand.

What if it was further developed? Greatly innovative, wonderful device.

I bought it because I have a HP Pre 3 and I love webOS. It could've been the best OS ever. This tablet lacks apps. Reading ebooks isn't impossible but requires a bit of patience. Multitasking is gorgeous, fluid, intuitive: the best one ever made. User Interface looks splendid. Broswer is quite old due to webOS have being killed two years ago and some sites may not support it partially or completely, but for now this isn't a problem, I've not met such issues yet. Screen isn't full HD (720p in 9.7") and you can see the difference between this one and iPad's. It weighs a lot compared to any other tablet and it's slightly thicker, but it's not a problem for me. There's no rear camera (only a 1.3 MP front one), but once again I don't care. Synergy, messaging and notifications are greatly organized and simple to manage and use; mail client is the best ever made for tablets so far thanks to its innovative way of displaying mails and to webOS cardview multitasking: I can say it's the best app for TouchPad.
If you already love webOS and/or want to try something different from Android and iPad, it won't disappoint you. If not, don't buy it.

This product is very well made and works as described. I love it.

The touchpad is a very useful device. The screen is very high quality for touch response and picture quality. I believe it is the same or very similar to the iPad 2 screen. The email client is very nice. The card system for running programs or websites is a nice feature as well. I've had a couple hiccups with using Skype video calls from my touchpad to an iPad 2. Mainly, every once in a while the video goes out but sound still works. Not sure why that is happening but I haven't tested it out much more than that. The app store is limited, however if you want this tablet to use the internet, email, watch videos and do basic document editing or writing, you don't need to worry about the lack of apps. I personally don't use my tablet for gaming since I have an Xbox and ps3 at home. This table it is very well made and if you scored it for $99-150 during the firewall, you got a hell of a bargain. Its worth much more. I'd say it is worth around $350-$400. I wrote this review from the touchpad.Lire l'avis complet...
