HP C5280: Great printer/prints directly on CDs DVDs

I only use and buy HP printers mostly due their features and the ability to recycle ink cartridges.

I've owned dozens of HP printers - mostly so I can test them to recommend them to customers.<br>
This particular HP All In One has been one of more favorite HP printers.

It prints directly onto CDs and DVDs using a separate tray.

It has a very straightforward - direct from camera media printing fuction and a very easy to understand quick color copy function.

The prints in fast draft mode are still clear and almost laser quality - using far less ink.

This printer is well supported under Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5

I do wish this printer had a USB port for hooking up a digital camera directly and/or a network port - although other models support this feature - those printers also drop the ability to print directly onto a printable CDs and DVDs.

Due to the way Epson inkjet printers waste ink and do not have recyclable cartridges - I would highly recommend this printer or the HP C6280 - that has a front USB port and built in ethernet port for hooking up to a wireless router.

I needed to print labels on the disk and it does it.

I had exactly the same printer before and used it for many years. It is a good product, but it displays one thing and the output is different sometimes.

A printer well worth the money, and easy to use.

The Photosmart C5280 is one of the best printers HP ever made in my opinion. The ink lasts a long time if you get the XP type. This printer is slow to print photos and CDs but worth the wait. It will print a variety of envelope and photo sizes unlike some other high-end printers. Scaning and enlarging photos is very easy and plain to understand unlike some other printers.Lire l'avis complet...

A miracle to find a brand new one

I was quite lucky to find a new, unused 'all-in-one' to replace the one that I had. My original HP C-5280 jammed up and konked out, after about seven years of good service. By choice, I run the Windows XP operating system on my computer. In order to buy a currently made new 'all-in-one' copier/printer/scanner, I would have had to also buy a new computer with a more up to date operating system. New 'all-in-one' printers are no longer compatible with Windows XP. By finding a brand new HP C-5280 'all-in-one' of the exact model that I had, it was a simple matter to disconnect the old one and plug in the new one. My computer already had the program installed and recognized the new machine immediately.

Another thing I disliked about the currently made 'all-in-one' printers is that they have a smaller scanning bed. The old HP C-5280 has a nice size scanning bed, which serves my purpose.

Also, all current printers require four {expensive} ink cartridges that cost a whopping $ 70.00 + tax. Is this progress? The old HP C-5280 takes two, much less expensive ink cartridges. I'm saving a huge amount of money in ink costs, as well as not having to buy a new computer. Hooking everything up was a breeze. It purrs like a kitten and works great !! I'm thrilled with it. A miracle to find something of that age, brand new..........

HP Photosmart C5280 printer

PROS: Amazing print quality; decent print speeds; useful multi-card reader; the all-in-one feature is really convenient and saves desk space.

CONS: We have sold a many of these at our local computer store and have had relatively few problems. We did, however, get a "bad" shipment in which about 4 out of 10 of these printers had manufacturer defects (faulty carriage jam, mini-lcd would freeze during initial setup, HP said it was a known issue in which I believe that have resolved by now).

SUMMARY: Over ten years, I have owned three printers (at my home, anyway), and all have been Photosmarts. No one time have I ever had an issue with any of them. The only reason I have replaced them is for my wife wanting to get "the latest and greatest." This is my favorite deskjet/photo/all-in-one printers!

Very good printer. We recommend it to anyone good printing to be done.

This is a very good printer even though it is not the newest model on the market. It is basically used for very high quality prints, e.g. texts with illustrations, paintings' reproductions, images generated in Illustrator, Photoshop, and other programs.

We cannot compare this printer to any other printer because from the very beginning of our project we were using the same model. It was perfectly working on card stock cover, and variety of other light weight paper, including 33 lb, laser jet glossy paper, etc., until it was fed incorrectly (6 x 18 watercolor paper).

As a result, the printer was unable to complete its printing task did repel, ripped the paper and got jammed. However, because of the aborted effort to remove jammed paper from the printing printer, it got broken. It lost the capacity to pull the paper in, and with any attempt to print again, it fell into a bad habit of displaying the same sad message--"the printer is out of paper," "the printer is out of paper," "the printer is out of paper!"

After close physical examination of the partially dismembered printer we discovered a small rubber wheel lying deep inside of the area, where reproductions are supposed to emerge from, severed from the printer. Later on we realized that the plastic shaft, which was connected to the plastic gear and was absolutely essential for the progress of the sheet of paper during the printing process, was snapped and rendered the printer totally dumb. It became totally incapable to pull the paper in and complete the printing task as planned by us.

As it is clear from described above, our beloved Photo-Smart-All-in-One printer became a totally disabled printer. When we were trying to explore its abilities to scan, it was demanding to place the cartridges into the proper place and categorically refused to scan until the completion of the alignment test. In the meantime, it was a good established tradition for this particular printer to pass alignments easily with any new cartridge insertion, wether it was black, or color, or photo cartridge, when either of them was properly inserted into the cartridge head.

At that point it became clear to us that the printer required some technical attention, and called for intervention of the expert. It certainly deserved it after three year of dedicated service. It printed more than 10 hand-made books; approximately 150 pages each. In total it printed 300 copies of these books. Besides it printed thousands of color reproductions and text documents with a lot of illustrations.

Being loyal printer users of our All-in-One Photo smart C5280 Inkjet (Print, Scan, Copy) printer, we tried to find the way to repair our Photosmart Printer, but unfortunately no infrastructure for any kind of printer's repair was discovered; it was lacking; it does not exist.

As it was suggested to us we had no choice but to trade this printer in exchange of $50. So we bought exactly the same model on e-bay because we had a stock of cartridges and we had a very high respect for this model. The printer we have now is called All-in-one Inkjet Printer Junior. In the meantime its predesessor is, hopefully, reincarnated as a manufacturer refurbished printer, slightly used, in good condition, and ready to re-apear on e-bay. So we hope that the future owner of this printer will have the same warm feeling toward this hard working modest horse.

Junior wishes our printer a happy, long, and productive life.
