Be advised buying used one. Page Count can be reset.

For a used printer, you cannot trust the Page Count to tell the real pages it has been printed. The page count of this HP LaserJet 6P can be easily reset by pressing and holding the Job-Cancel button for 20 seconds while turning on the power switch. This LaserJet 6P is a model of HP printer at year 1998, it has been more than 12 years now. (Today: 2010). In a very light usage, the page count should be about 100K pages even if it has been only used two toner cartridges (which each can last 4K page) per year. The printer has its life span on its rollers that should be replaced for every 100K page according to HP maintenance service supplement. My experience tells me that they should be still good for 150K pages. So, if you see a description that tells you it has only 10K page count or even lower, think again. Is there a low page count with toner-dust (which is a light gray dust) everywhere? (The best place to check: open the left side panel that for installing memory and check the inside surface, especially the inside corners, to see if the toner-dust appears). Unfortunately, you cannot check it online. Be advised, seller has no obligation to tell whether its page count has been reset. With the knowledge, judge it yourself riskily. And, by the way, it is really a very good printer. It is reliable and low cost to operate.Lire l'avis complet...

Die-hard laserjet printer 6p

I have had two used laserjets in use at home and in the office. I have never had a new one, always buy used and get them for around $25-50. They are a workhorse. They take a little time to get the message from the computer, but they will run and run and run. I would not buy a new laser black and white printer when I can get one at such a low cost used. And....the cartridges are really cheap on ebay also. If you want a good solid laser printer...this is the one that will get the job done. I would rate it excellent, but it does take longer to get the job in memory than my inkjet.Lire l'avis complet...

Product good, UPS handling not so good.

I have another just like it so it was easy to swap out to test it. It works just the way it should. This one will be used in another location. It was well packed however UPS managed to smash in one corner and brook off one corner of the pull down lid. A little supper glue fixed that. I know it wasn't that way. It was too obvious.Lire l'avis complet...

Perfect Printer for Home

I have used this model printer at work for the past 10 years. I have used it as a low volume printer, dedicated to printing Service Work Orders. The reason why I bought this printer was that it is a great, low volume Workhorse of a printer. I say low volume, because it prints at a speed of 7-9 pages per minute. I am fed up with paying $60-$100 for ink, that dries up in 4-6 months. The printers marketed for the home will eat you alive in liquid ink, especially if you don't print alot. Nowadays it makes no sense to buy a bunch of hardware for printing photos at home, when all the big Chain Stores offer print on demand services for pennies per picture. That brings me back to this printer. It uses black toner (no color) and the Toner is DRY. This means that if I don't use the printer for a year, it will still print a perfect copy when called on. Better yet, The toner cartridges are inexpensive on EBay, and yo get 3000+ copies per cartridge. The "Ink" printer would have gummed up or dried out, causing me to make a trip to the store.

Another Benefit: The Kids can go to the Coloring Book websites and print pages to color, and I don't have to worry about the ink issue! Hooray!

Blast from the past - Oldie but goodie!

One of the best HP's ever built! Have used this since 2001 in my college days - bought used on E-Bay back in 2001 and it's still going strong today...Original date of manufacture of my printer is 1997. Original rollers and everything. Kinda slow by today's standards at only 8PPM, but print quality is superb and print cartridges are cheap and last forever. Parallel port printer only but can be networked with an external Jet Direct box (what I do) or either a Parallel to USB adapter. Works great on the network with all my Windows 7 machines. Haven't tried with Windows 10 but I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. I love this printer! It got me through college and is still with me today. I have a newer HP laser that prints 30PPM and duplexes when I need the speed, but the build quality isn't nearly as good as this 6P tank of a printer.Lire l'avis complet...

HP LasserJet 6MP printer

Even buying a used one with low page count is a better deal than the newer plastic non-repairable units. This one had 27K pages printed, that is like buying a older high quality car with 27,000 miles and knowing you can get at least 140,000 out of it with some care. Parts are still available and the repairs are fairly easy. Toughest problem? Paper jam in the fuser section. Happens only rarely. Toner refills are readily available. I use the cartridge until I see any degradation of the printing. I work for a mission group so every $ saved reduces the office overhead. We currently have six printers in use and always a working spare.

great printer poor documentation by HP

Printer is fast, accurate, and prints sharp copys. Finding the simplist things about the printer was impossible from the hp site. There is tons of technical info available but nothing that vaguely resembles a user manual. All i wanted to know was how to load a cartridge. how to load paper , how to use the alternate paper/ envelope feeds, how to handle a paper jam, ETC. I don't give a damm about the printer languages used or all the rest of the technical stuff. for instance the first manual offered has 340 pages, I'm sure the answer to my questions are some where included in this book but I'm unwilling to scan all those pages or print hem all out to get to the basic questions.
In short Great printer. Documentation that only a printer engineer could love.

Unbelievable reliability

We use a dozen of them in our business for letters, envelopes, labels, checks, etc. Very high print quality. Very few problems to 100K copies and more, you can buy them with 10K copies for less than the (list) price of a toner cartridge. OEM and generic toner always available at 50% or more off list. Get a copy of the Windows printer "test page" and printer self-test page (showing page count, memory, etc.) before buying. Windows test page should be very crisp/clean.Lire l'avis complet...

Practical Workhorse Printer

Good new plain old black and white printers cost at least $200. Getting a low-mileage HP 6P cost me about $50. It's not as fast as a new machine, but the output is crisp and I'm not in such a hurry that a few seconds per page matters. I bought one for my house and another for the office of the Funeral Consumers Alliance. It's networkable. You can get toner cartridges for it on Ebay for $35 or less that will print 5000 pages. The only problem I had with one of them was that the little bar under the toner cartridge came loose and I had to figure out where to put it back. Fortunately, that was the 2nd one, so I just had to look at the first one to see where it went. If you're looking for a hard-working well-behaved printer, this is a great deal for the money. Also, when the toner cartridge starts to leave white streaks, you can take it out and shake it to get another 50 pages.Lire l'avis complet...

HP Laser Jet 6p- Best Printer for the money

These work horse printers are the best value for the money on the market for a home office. I have owned several of these over the years that I have purchased on Ebay for under $75.00. They produce great letter quality documents and work flawlessly. The ink cartridge is costly (@$75.00) but it makes 10,000 copies! If you buy another style printer, you will pay that much for 600 copies.

If they start to wear out, replace it with another for short dollars.

If you buy one of the newer color printers, you will pay three times that if you need to print letters for your business.

I think they are great!
