HP 6122 Review Office Capability Printer

One of the Reviews is excellent and I will make highlights.

WE have 6 of these at the Campus Computer Club and in draft mode will easily put out 1500 copies and in color another 500+ copies. The ink cartridges and performance just don't compare to anything out there except maybe an Epson with the 10cc replaceable ones. Photo inks are again superb.

HP's support for Windows XP and software drivers for Windows XP superb. Will duplex without a hitch with the XP based software.

For those with Vista of Windows 7. Duplex mode will not work as HP has of yet to supply the software. Yet, single page mode is excellent.

Drawback: HP produced this printer back in 2002-2003 and even though you can get lots of new or refurbished ink, HP has no incentive or plans to post upgraded software for VISTA or WINDOWS7.

STURDY PRINTER

Duplex printer from HP with extra large ink cartridges so frequency of replacement is low. Rarely gives a fit when it comes to paper handling. A little on the slow side as unit delays printing on the opposite side to allow ink to dry between pages. This can be adjusted down but it's still slow. I timed it in the fastest position at 20 seconds per page. Four choices of print quality. Great software which allows many printing options and adjustments. Great price for a decent printer. Watch out for remanufactured cartridges for this unit though. HP has designed the cartridges so that refill is very very difficult. I'd give excellent rating if the speed were faster and refilling cartridges was easier.Lire l'avis complet...

Sorry...but this is just awful!

This is my second HP Printer...not by choice, they are supplied with the company laptop and I guess they get a great deal on these things....I can see why!
Sure, it has its pros: Once it gets started - there always seems to be a delay before this thing clicks into gear and gets going - it is pretty fast! It is supposed to print 20 black and white pages a minute or 13 color pages...I am not too sure if it actually does this, but nonetheless its pretty fast! The quality is great too - certainly cannot complain there - and it even has an option to print double sided which few printers at this price level offer!
If you are using photo paper, it will also print out some quality pictures that are vivid and not as grainy as some photo printers!
HP sells this as particularly useful for those looking for high volume printing...but here is the problem...you hit print, your paper tray is loaded (and not too loaded)...you are expecting lots of copies and quickly...BUT you have to babysit this, as all too often the paper gets jammed or it starts to feed multiple pieces of paper at once and shuts down....then you have to pull it apart and after which point it prints reams of rubbish and you have to reset it!
Also the tray is very cheap and flimsy and the parts keep falling off...I have gone through two of these through work...each one the same!!
Finally it does this clunking thing after each print session...sometimes its jamming , sometimes it just sounds like this...either way, that is annoying!
I have another HP printer that is just great but this 6122 model, is more trouble than good!!

Good basic printer

I bought the printer for two reasons. It uses the 51645 ink cartridge which is easy to refill and it does two sided printing automatically. I have used several HP printers of this basic class and all have performed very well. This one however has a problem with the paper jamming when it cycles to print the second side. The printer was used and probably has hidden damage. I had no problems with a previous model 6122. I think in the future I will not buy a used product that is being sold for less than the cost of shipping. Chances are you will get a flawed product. It is really not fair to rate a product that was not purchased new.Lire l'avis complet...

5 years and thousands of copies with zero problems

Like the title says have used this printer for over 5 years in three different brokerage offices with zero problems.

It prints extremly fast with good quality and over the five years would estimeate I have printed over 30,000 copies without a hitch other than a rare easily remedied paper misfeed or rarer jam. I personally do not consider an occassional feed issue a problem if you understand any office printer or copier this is just part of being able to reproduce your work. Kinda expect to see bunny ears pop out of the back because this thing just keeps going and going.

Like other reviewers have pointed out it does allow the use of a 45 black cartride which holds the largest ink supply HP makes. A valuable plus since the price for a 15 and 45 is virtually the same.

One quick hint to increase printing speed and save ink is to go to printing preferences and select HP bright white inkjet paper as your paper and print in draft mode. Printing speed is super fast, quality is very good and ink use is less.

The only con I can list is that sometimes on larger print jobs it does hesitate before starting the job. Kinda compare this to taking a deep breath first. If or when it dies just hope can find as good of a replacement.

A nice printer for the Price with Great Features.

I run a small business and the HP 6122 has proven to be an outstanding printer. Some months I print at high volume and others I print very little, and this printer performs well.

If you are a quilter, scrapbooker, or general crafter this printer will nicely fit your needs. Need to print on fabric not a problem, just need to make sure that the edges of the fabric are securely adhered to the paper backing. In fact, I make my own fabric printer paper and I never have any trouble with it going through this printer.

I really liked that fact that auto-duplex (print on both sides) was a standard feature on this printer. I wish more printers had that. While not everything I print is duplex, about 80% of what I print is duplex, so that is an important feature for me.

There are four levels of print quality: DRAFT, FAST NORMAL, NORMAL, & BEST.
For most of my printing needs FAST NORMAL does just fine. On the rare occasion that I print photos, BEST produces wonderful pictures. When printing on fabric I use the NORMAL setting.

We held for several years a Holiday Craft Show in our house and we used the 6122 to print all of our invitations, just over 1,000. We also used it to print our posters (24 poster @ 12 pages each), countless flyers, postcards, letters, drawing entry forms, and small signs that we used through out the show. Not to mention our normal everyday paperwork, the print outs that we generated for our artists, and the print outs that we needed for our own records. And the 6122 printed everything beautifully.

I still both HP 6122s and use them quite a bit, but I have since upgraded to HP 1200 printers.

LIKE Mother Like Son...FREE PRINTER anyone?

Now for the rest of us. I discovered this printer just a couple of weeks ago. My mother called me up and asked me her oldest son to refill her cartridges on her Lexmark printer. They dried up again since she sometimes does not even print anything for 2-3 months. As we all know most printers these days are disposable because it is cheaper to buy a new cheap printer that to buy 2 new ink cartridges. So your second choice is to go and refill them. THANK GOODNESS that these stores now offer to refill the ink cartrdges for us! So I drove to my mothers house and took picked up the 2 dried up Lexmark ink cartridges. I then drove back to the ink refill store. WAIT the cartridges could not be refilled since they were dried up! So my Mother had to drive to the store and pay $170 for a new HP printer. I the loving son drive back to my mothers house go to install the new printer. WAIT. The new $170 printer does not work for my father's laptop that was given to him by his company. (He had it at least 2 years before he passed to a better place in 2000.)

Now we are left with a problem. That is to put a first mortgage on the house and buy a new LEXMARK color and ONE new LEXMARK black cartridge. But, the looking into the future son thinks what if the cartridges we would buy dry up in 2-3 months? (NOOO!) then this cycle of futility will rear its ugly head again. The now looking to avoid a headache in the future son called the ink refill store man for advice. He recommended HIGHLY the ink cartridges that come with this printer. The reason being is that will will not dry up if my mother does not print a year and they are twice the size. Thus when I go back to his store to refill in six months to a year I will get twice as much and will be able to now it is worth not buying a new printer. Also if my fathers laptop finally gives out. I am sure my Mothers' new computer will work with THIS printerl So I drove and picked up this HP 6122 deskjet printer. them installed it on my dad's WINDOWS 95 printe. PROBLEM SOLVED!

BUT WAIT! I have just bought a new $25 HP printer a week before and I sell on EBAY! My black ink cartridge is already half full. So the now the light bulb has finaly turned on son drives back and picks up a HP deskjet 6122 printer for myself. I drpve back to my house and install the printer to my Windows XP computer. Just like my Mother's printer the cartridges were installed and I started printling instantly with my AS IS cartridges. The beauty of this is this not a cheap printer. It retailed NEW for $270.00! It also was designed to print 5000 PAGES every month! (How long will it take you to print that many?!) LOL IT also is equipped to print on both sides of the page!! It also can print on to virtually any size paper, card, brochure, ad, you want. It also will look PROFESSIONAL! It also prints photo quality!

In conclusion, , My Mother drove back to the store and returned the new $170 printer. She threw out the old Lexmark. I drove to the store and returned my $25 printer. (I had to take a store credit since I could not find the receipt. LOL) I then gave my neighbor 2 year old Lexmark print that I had been carting around since their ink cartridges had dried up. I threw out a third one! This printer is good for the mother who prints a letter or two a month or a small business owner son that prints hundreds a month! To keep it simple, this will work with the cable you have with your printer now!!!

The best inkjet printer HP ever made.

I already knew how much I liked these printers before I purchased my latest one. The Deskjet 6122 seems to be one of the last versions of the Deskjet 960 and older units that still takes the 45 & 78 ink cartridges. I'm convinced that HP decided that there wasn't enough planned obsolescence built into these units. I'm equally convinced that HP makes model changes simply to stay ahead of the aftermarket ink cartridge industry. This printer has wonderful ink life and is a perfect match between speed and quality. The fact that one can now purchase these cartridges with the new Vivera ink, gave me all the reason I needed to stay with a winner.Lire l'avis complet...
