1955 Brando, Simmons, Sinatra & Blaine Musical Comedy
Marlon Brando's daring musical debut with "the voice of the century" co-star, Frank Sinatra (no less), turns out to be a hilarious comedy packed with Frank Loesser's songs that make for a superb musical romp. With some of the shrewdest gamblers in the Big Apple, who are counting ($) upon Nathan Detroit (Frank Sinatra) to set up the week's "Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York," Detroit's having difficulty raising the grand of cash that the place for the game costs. What's a gambler to do to raise fast dough? Entice someone into what seems like a sure bet!
A gambling pro, Sky Masterson (Marlon Brando), accepts Detroit's $1,000 bet, waggering that Detroit can't schmooze a zealot Salvation Army Missionary Sergeant, Sarah Brown (Jean Simmons), into accompanying him to Havana. In order to do so, Detroit will have to seduce the Sgt.. Since the attractive Sgt. Brown's lacking sinners to covert at her local mission, a gambler's soul seems like a good enough challenge to save. Little does Masterson know how seductive the attractive Sgt. is capable of becoming. A twist the gambling veteran didn't foresee.
Rather than setting up Detroit for a most likely loss, Masterson's about to become the loser of the bet, but a winner with the woman. Love is the furthest thing from either the Sgt.'s or master gambler's expectations. As Masterson & Brown resist being romantically drawn towards each other, the stage breaks out into some of the most well known song & dance numbers.
Romance is in the air & catching as a divine dance hall girl, Miss Adelaide (Vivian Blaine), goes all out on a quest to get Detroit, her fiancé, to marry her. The songs that follow tell their story best.

Nominated for 4 Oscars, "Guys and Dolls" didn't win any. But that has never dissuaded the public from having a 50+ year love affair with this classic.
