Madness in Bear Country

Wow, found this movie both highly entertaining and highly disturbing. How any human can survive while filming themselves thirteen seasons around hungry and territorial bears is amazing. Equally amazing is Mr. Treadwell himself who becomes alarmingly stranger the longer the camera stays on him.Lire l'avis complet...

Tragic on so many levels....

If you are looking for a documentary about a "rough and rugged" man of the Alaskan wild, or perhaps an interesting story about a bear zoologist, you are looking in the wrong place.
This is the story of a troubled man in search of himself, which I like to believe he found, within his love of these grizzly bears.
Passionate about animals, particularly this group of bears, Timothy lived a life not knowing who we truly was, what he was meant to do, nor do I think he believed he was truly loved.
This documentary shows a complex man full of tremendous love for the grizzlies, but sadly, tragically, very little love of Self.
I like to think he found peace with the bears, he found a place to express himself and his love, freely and unconditionally.
This is not a "feel good movie" yet a movie I highly recommend everyone sees at least once.
Rest in peace, Timothy. You've touched many lives with your story.....perhaps that is what you were looking for all along...

Grizzly Man is a documentary about a deeply troubled individual who went way too far in identifying and joining a grizzly bear community in the Far North. Most of the footage he took over 13 summers before one of the bears killed and ate him and his girlfriend. If you want to know about the bears, and about an excessive case of identification with the bears, this is excellent background. If you're looking for entertainment or a Disneyworld view of grizzly bears go elsewhere.Lire l'avis complet...

Grizzly Man

The movie gives you an indept look in to the man known as "The Grizzly Man." I found it both informative and frustrating at times. I wish that it was a little more biographical, that it gave you more info as to what compelled him to head to Alaska. The cinematography is amazing though and I learned things about Grizzlies that I did not know before. If you like this I highly recommend you watch or purchase "The Grizzly Man Diaries" on Animal Planet.
Lastly, and this may sound morbid but I would have liked them to discuss more about why after 13 years a bear did finally take his life? Was it that he'd stayed to long that year? That he had brought his girlfriend with him? Etc...

A Man Turns to Nature until Nature Turns on Him.

Amazing story about a man who immersed himself into the world of bears and loses not only his grip on reality but also his humanity and then his life. You are gripped from the first moment as you see this young man choose to live as one with the bears. His innocence in the beginning dissolves into a form single-minded madness as he loses the ability to see outside his own narrowing world. You want to root for this man but he self-destructs before your eyes until you know the inevitable way this true story must end. Endlessly fascinating, sad, joyful and very, very real. The short life of an adrenaline addict.

I like that it helps me to be more mindful about taking decisions and thinking.

I dislike that it presents the sad reality of the most common type of stupid.
Pumped by his addiction to adrenaline and attention, the man decides to take the extreme risk of being exposed to one of the largest carnivores (meat eaters) on earth: The Bears.
Somehow, he managed to believe that nature was going to make an exception on his case.

A bear ate him and his girlfriend. But the saddest thing is that his girlfriend lost her life because of his selfish stupidity. He accepted to be eaten by bears when he took the risk of messing with them. I don't think his girlfriend completely agreed with loosing her life like that as if she had the same stupid craving, she would have been present more often.

The stupid behaviour of the main character is closely similar to the stupidity shown by most criminals as most of them get a kick of extreme risks not minding their own life or other people's life sometimes. The fragile constitution of an imbecile.

Grizzly Man (2005, DVD)

The amazing thing about Timothy Treadwell was that he survived 13 summers in the Alaska wilderness, living among gigantic, ferocious grizzly bears, until one of them finally ate him. Treadwell was a combination environmental activist, societal rebel, filmmaker, nutcase and holy fool. In other words, he was not unlike Werner Herzog, director of "Grizzly Man," the brilliant new documentary about Treadwell's life and horrible death. Herzog is much more self-aware than Treadwell ever was, and has much more of a sense of reality and irony. But as a filmmaker drawn to impossible projects ("Fitzcarraldo," "Aguirre, the Wrath of God"), he feels a definite kinship to Treadwell, even as he's appalled by Treadwell's egregious lapses of judgment. Treadwell shot more than 100 hours of film of himself and his beloved grizzlies, and Herzog culls the best of that film for "Grizzly Man." In his own film footage, Treadwell showed himself consistently to be an arrested adolescent, conflating the terrifying behemoths he lived among with his collection of teddy bears. (He speaks constantly of the mortal danger of living among grizzlies, but never quite seems to believe his own words.) Yet he also captured some of the most amazing nature scenes ever recorded, and Herzog respects him for that. (In his narration, Herzog also expresses great tenderness toward Amie Huguenard, the woman who loved Treadwell, followed him to the wilderness despite her fear of bears, and shared his horrible fate.) Whereas Treadwell sought order in nature, and believed the grizzlies loved him as much as he loved them, Herzog sees nothing in Treadwell's story except the workings of a chaotic universe sending one more dreamer to his doom. But because Treadwell's dreams were so outsized, Herzog sees him as a brother. So, thanks to Herzog, do we.Lire l'avis complet...

A good man-Timothy Treadwell

No matter what jokes a person (comedian) makes about what happened, Timothy Treadwell was a great human being who truly cared about animals and people. He had some very good traits that I try to immolate and instill in my children.

This was a great movie by the director, editor and Treadwell. I immensely enjoyed watching the passion that this man lived with when he was still with us. He may have died too soon, but at least he really was alive when he was here and not a robot.

If a person wants to feel alive, jump in a river with a Grizzly and go for a swim.

Thanks Tim.

A Film that Sparks Conversation

First off: I rate this film a 5 out of 5 not because I agree or disagree with the message it conveys, but rather because it does it with such fervor and conviction. Timothy Treadwell's bear-seeking adventures are bound to raise the ire of environmentalists and non-environmentalists alike, but it's indisputable that the footage he captured is something we won't see the likes of again. The movie is really two movies in one: samples of the incredible footage he captured, and a glimpse into Tim's troubled life. Starting with an account of Timothy's tragic death, the movie steps back and walks through his life, and the vast regions he claimed to protect.

Cinematographically, I thought the film was a masterpiece. Even the soundtrack was memorable, and I had to watch it twice to really absorb everything. That said, I'm sure I could watch it a third, or even a fourth time without getting bored.

Grizzly Man The Mysterious Timothy Treadwell

I was glued to the television when we first watched Grizzly Man as I had never seen, nor heard of, a man walking and living among these magnificent beast!
This is a documentary that incorporates 13 summers of Timothy Treadwell's filming the Grizzlies and himself in the Great Bear Maze of Alaska.
A lot of people poke fun at this man, but I invite these people to do as Timothy did, stand your ground against a full grown Male Grizzly that slams him with his head. Was it bravery, courage, stupidity? I don't think it was none. I believe it was having a knowledge of the Grizzly and knowing that if you show fear or run it is a natural response to attack.
He carried no gun, not even mace, just his wits. In the end nothing could save him.
As introduced in the beginning of the film, Timothy and his girlfriend are both killed in their thirteenth summer with the bears. A Rogue attacked them as they slept.
You will see some fantastic bear footage like two male grizzlies in a fight for the alpha prestige.
The movie captures the spirit of a troubled man that sought a sense of belonging and self-worth by studying bears like no other man has ever done before. The movie does include some crude language and a morbid talking coroner.
I have since watched it 5 times and every-time I do I love it more. Its a movie you will not regret owning.
