One Step Away From Being Great

Gran Turismo 5 is the one of the most realistic racing games in the history of gaming. You can choose from lots of cars from dealers such as Dodge, Ferrari, Chevrolet, to name a few. The game has a points system in which you earn points from circuit races to buy new cars. You can also trade in cars, for less points but still some, which is a useful feature. One minor flaw is that the game is pretty easy. You could probably beat all the circuits in a week, but the fact that you want to get ALL the cars makes it have a good replay value. The only big problem in GT5 is that your car cannot be damaged. You can have a head-on collision with another car and not have a scratch. Also, you can't spin people out which gets incredibly annoying when someone turns and hits you and you slow down, instead of the other car spinning out. Despite the fact that you can't wreck, Gran Turismo 5 is a good racing game and is fun. The game isn't worth the original $59.99 price, but for $39.99 and under it is a good snag for anyone's collection.Lire l'avis complet...

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - Game Review (PS3)

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - Game Review (PS3)
scores are 1-100

Gameplay: 70

Extremely boring in less than hour of playing. The game brings nothing new in terms of gameplay. Just the same classic races which swings from one lap to 5 laps length. At least you get a bonus group race if you complete the other three and a range of 71 vehicles to play on those repetitive six tracks. The drift events are present only in the arcade menu, and are implemented as stand-alone events. Every track, with one exception (Daytona), has a drift zone which is divided in score sectors. This is where you have to perform the most outrageous drifts in order to score points. If in GT HD Concept you had the chance to drift in an unlimited number of laps, Prologue brings the limitation of one lap per each drift event.

Graphics: 92

Photo-realistic graphics combined with a high-performance physics engine. This is the core of every Gran Turismo game and still is. Unfortunately the environmental design lacks of any stylized approach which makes the game to look too artificial and cold in some places.

Play the game with any wheel supported by the game, eliminating all driving assists and you will get one of the best realistic driving approach. If you are a simulator maniac, and you are not convinced of what I've written, try the drift events and feel how many parameters have been included in the physical engine in order to simulate all the forces that operates on the car in different situations.

Multiplayer: 80

Support up to 16 players online. But at the same time it is extremely basic, new additions being awaited from Polyphony. At this point it is hard to compare it with what Forza Motorsport 2 or Project Gotham Racing 4 has in terms of what they can offer.

Sound: 79

No way you can customize the soundtrack of the game. At least the tracks are quite mellow so they are not incredibly irritating. The only problem is that the songs repeat themselves during a race. Same song goes over an over again until you end the event.

Hardware: 85

A plus for the online mode which runs smooth. But a minus for the loading times which are long even if you exit a race. I still blame that My Page idea.

Very well put together game. Graphics are incredible!

Gran Turismo has outdone themselves once again with the 5th additional of their automobile racing game series. The 5th edition of GT offers very beautiful scenic backgrounds while on and off the race track. The graphics of the vehicles are superb and the handling of the vehicles feels like you are actually in the car (I use a racing wheel to play).

There are new "views" offered in GT5. For instance, you can view the game while racing from the inside of the vehicle, outside of the vehicle or first person view.

As far as racing games go....this one is about a 8.5 out of 10. It would be a bit more realistic if when you hit something in the game, it puts damage on the vehicle that needs to be fixed. As of right now, you can plow into a wall and drive away from the accident completely scratch free.

Multi-player offers a completely second side to the game. You can race in career online with other or just play with other on arcade mode.

The user interface makes this game feel more like a racing community. It lays out a calendar, the time, the weather and temperature (real info) in certain popular racing cities such as London, Tokiyo and LA.

The vehicle selection is very nice, although I think a bit limited. On average you can only select about 3 different vehicles from each car company (and volvo is completely missing from the list).

I love this game and traded in my Need for Speed: Pro Street in exchange for it. I feel I made a good decision!

All-in-all I am glad I bought this game and that you will feel the same way if you do so yourself!

GT 5 game or demo?

There is no doubt that GT5 is one of the best looking racing games out.
Now, i would ask the question was this worth $40 to buy as a 'game' or should this really be a demo of what GT5 will really be?

The variety of cars is great and look amazing(having to do a double take some times to see if they are real or not)

The tracks lack a little in variety since there aren't that many of them, granted you can play them in reverse and mirrored.

Now the down side is, there is no upgrades like in previous GT titles. I am assuming that there will be in the full GT5 as well as rumored damage modeling.

An update with performance upgrades, a track/car pack would definetly make this worth the price tag.

For the visuals and solid driving mechanics it gets a Good for the games overall ratting.

It's a good game...for what it is.

Make no mistakes about it, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is just a nice big demo. Having said that, it's a must have for any fan of the Gran Turismo series because it will introduce you to the GT world on the PS3 and let you familiarize yourself with the new handling mechanics. And lets not forget the online component, where up to 16 players can compete for the podium.

The game has a short list of cars and an even shorter list of tracks. But that shouldn't bother any one since this is not a "full" game (unless you bought it thinking that it was the real deal). This is just a small sampling of what Gran Turismo 5 will bring to the table once it's unleashed upon us in 2010. Enjoy.

GT5 Prologue: the preview of "THE" car game for PS3

GT5 Prologue is the "prologue" to the upcoming GT5.

Good points:
- the graphic is excellent in full Hdmi;
- finally the game has Ferrari cars (!);
- finally there's a view from inside the car (never seen on GT games).

Bad points:
- no possibility to modify the cars (maybe only in this prologue): if you buy a slow car, it will remain a slow car;
- no crashes (visible or invisible);
- it's a Japanese version, but on internet you may find translations;
- if you want to play arcade, you need to buy the cars and at the beginning you have few credits.

So it's a good game, but not "THE" game as all the past Gran Turismo games. :)

Awesome graphics and scenery and good touch of realism

Bought the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue to try it out and found it to be really entertaining with a good touch of realism and awesome graphics. There is though a time period spent in getting the feel of controlling your racing car with the PS3 Dualshock 3 controller. Because of this I have opted to purchase a Logitech Driving Force GT Wheel Gran Turismo steering setup and see if it will greatly enhance my steering control of the car. The ability to choose between numerous vehicle enhancements for the selectable road conditions gives the game added scenarios. Overall I consider the game to be good and possibly upgrade it to excellent upon my experience with it using a more precise and responsive feedback steering control system.Lire l'avis complet...

Fun Race Car Game

I bought GT5 two weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the graphics and options for the cars. I have been a fan of MarioKart for the Wii but wanted something with a higher difficultly rating so bought GT5 for PS3. Still learning the courses but having fun and it is definitely more sensitive to controller movements than expected despite adjustments to certain options. Using the dualshock controller currently but may look to switch to a driving wheel controller in the future. If you like racing car games this is a good one. One wish is that they would have made more realistic graphics/effects for collisions- maybe that will be in the next version. Overall, I would recommend for others that like race car games.Lire l'avis complet...

Disc loosen

When I have the package, I hear and feel something is in the game case. When I open it, I was right: the disc was loosen. I am not certain if this was caused by erratic ship handling. Either way, this can be a problem if the game does not work due to the disc not being in placed! In the end, the game works as normal. Lire l'avis complet...

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for PS3 Review

It is a great game if you are waiting for the real GT5. If you have $20 bucks laying around and you are bored of your PS3 games get it. It is a good game but not in depth as I was hoping. There are quite a few different car manufacturers but not to many car models. The game is pretty short it took me about 3 weeks to beat it with playing just on the weekends about 3-4 hours for 3 sessions. Online is fun but again not vast. GT 5 is the real deal though, if you can wait 4 months then do it because this was just not a complete use of my money. It would be a good game to pick up as a collector's item to your Gran Turismo collection, other than that save your $20 and wait for GT5.Lire l'avis complet...
