A reclaimed treasure

This is a game that I had owned and at some point lost over time (thirty years can do that sometimes). And to be completely honest, I'd forgotten all about this game until I saw a review of Sega Master System games on the "Gamesack" YouTube channel. It plays very similar to the original Zelda with the overhead graphics and "dungeon Crawling" scenarios. I would even dare to say with slightly better game play as it includes a side-scrolling aspect.

Basically, you're playing as Kelesis, the hero, trying to save the princess from the demon Golvellius. Before you go storming his cave, you must find all the hidden crystals by defeating hidden bosses. Nearly every over-head screen (182 in all) contain a hidden cave that will either open after killing a set number of baddies, or by hitting different object (rocks, trees, grave stones, etc...)

The biggest downside to this game is the lack of a save feature for such a large game (for it's time). However there is a password feature, but it's 32 characters long. Golvellius is also a tedious game that forces you to kill lots of baddies in order to get money, but you can only hold so much (until you level up buy purchasing bibles). So, there is a lot of grinding away at killing to buy stuff. And if you die, you start at the very first screen. Again, very similar to Zelda, so get used to seeing that first cave entrance.

All-in-all, this is a great game and worth owing if you have a Sega Master System.

Golvellius: Valley of Doom

When I first got Golvellius… I knew nothing about this game. I wasn’t sure if I would like game or not. However, this game proved me wrong. It’s awesome…

Well… If you love Zelda like me. This is actually the Sega Version… The guy is wearing green like Link. This game is just as good. It’s got really epic music for 8-bit. Plus, the story to this is game is very good. It’s like Zelda the lost levels…

This game is so good it should of had several sequels… However, it still stands on it’s own as a Master System Favorite…
