A must for every fantasy lover's audio book collection.

I must confess I have listened to more of Terry Brooks audio books than I have read. Not because i'm lazy or beacause I don't like his writing style but because when yoo commute to work for 2 hours a day (with no traffic) you get bored listening to talk radio, the news and the same 20 songs over and over again. Audio books have helped me keep my sanity during countless days in the bumper to bumper madness that is this commuter's daymare.

Armaggeddon's children is the first in a trilogy of books that takes place a very, very long time before any of the previous Shannara books. Technically it is a prequel to the Sword, Elfstones and Wishsong of Shannara books written in the 70's and 80's. However when I read those books in my adolescence I thought they took place in the past. I like everyone else grew up learning our version of history, before guns there were swords right? Not according to Terry Brooks. I personally like how the Four Lands (the world the Shannara books takes place in) and the world as we know it is entertwined in his stories.

Mr. Brooks has great character developement and between his writing and Dick Hill's unabridged reading of the story it was very easy for me to envision the surroundings and state the characters lived (and died) in. The overall production value of this audio book was excellent. There was not one second in the 12 plus hours of this reading that were hard to hear or understand. The tracks flow seamlessly without any pauses which can distract the listener and remove them from the story.

This would be a great addition to anyone's collection and I highly recommend it.

If anyone is interested in a summation of Terry Brooks' Shannara books check out the wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shannara

Or go to the Terry Brooks website. There is a suggested list for new readers from Mr. Brooks on which books to read and in what order so as to not spoil the overall story. And there is also a list for readers that want to re-read his books in a way which makes sense chronologically in the overall story.

Thanks for reading.

Armageddon's Children by Terry Brooks (2006)

Terry Brooks has done it again.

Armageddon's Children is the first novel in Terry Brooks' latest fantasy trilogy entitled The Genesis of Shannara, which bridges the events of Brooks' Word/Void trilogy with his Shannara series. It takes place in an apocalyptic world around the year 2100 (about eighty years after the novel Angel Fire East) and details the events during the Great Wars, a historical conflict referenced frequently in the Shannara books.

If you haven't read the Word and the Void trilogy, do that first. It will help understanding this book.

I can't wait for the next chapter....... The Elves of Cintra.

I highly recommend that you get this audiobook, upload it into your IPOD and listen to it twice.

Armageddon's Children

A good story, different than what I would have expected from Brooks. Enjoyed it though and look forward to more from this story line.
