Serves the purpose and doesn't cost $2200!

I purchased this GPS because I recently purchased a new car and it did not have one. If I had added it to the car, it would have cost me $2200, so I decided to try this. It works great. It really is easy to use... once it's loaded. Little difficulty with that, but solved by seller. Much clearer than my last one and I love the touch screen feature. It prepares you the street before you are going to make a turn. I actually also purchased the Garmin Nuvi 010-11280-00 Portable Friction Dash Mount and am very pleased with it. It "does not move" and the base can be folded down so that I can put my GPS easily into a storage box. I would definitely recommend this item.Lire l'avis complet...

Great gift for any Vietnam Veteran

I had the Garmin 340. You plugged the power cord into the cheap plastic holding bracket with a suction cup. Guess what it broke. For a $100.00 I could up grade my maps OR buy a new one with a warranty, so I bought the 1450. For about $30.00 bucks more you get lifetime map upgrades. Sound is good and clear. I can even hear it clearly on my Motorcycle. 20 miles away it showes you that at 19.6 miles you will turn right. On the X-way with 5 lanes it showes you which lanes you need to be in to turn off. Buy the bean bag holder. That holder will not let it go anywhere. I really like that you plug the power cord into the GPS. It has a large screen but flat, get out of your car or off your motorcycle, unclip and slide into a shirt pocket. Nothing left to steal. I like the "Jill" voice but she can get an attitude if I don't turn where she wants me to, you know how the British act. I have PTSD from Vietnam and have a serious problem with short term memory. If they say take the second right, 4th left, 2nd street past the fork, "I'm Lost" the Garmin GPS gets me there and gets me home.Lire l'avis complet...

NIce GPS! and easy to use.

The Garmin Nuvi 1450 5" GPS is pretty easy to use. First off, you need to go to the Garmin website and download the "Garmin Express" update site and "update" all the maps. Then you need to purchase a little extra memory chip in order to handle all of the maps it is capible of loading. I had owned one exactly like this a few years ago but it broke. So, knowing how this 1450 worked was what made me like it. This 1450 will give you unlimited map updates for as long as you own it. Really a nice little GPS system. AND the Traffic car charger is a nice option. Will warn you of any traffic problems ahead and change your route if necessary.Lire l'avis complet...

BIG 5" screen + Lifetime maps + Traffic Alerts - Much better than Smartphone on the road

Love this GPS for ease of use, BIG screen and turn by turn clear voice directions
(Yes you can even pick male or female voice, LOL)
The traffic alerts with the special auto-charger that has built in FM antenna work really well in avoiding traffic delay areas
What is really cool is the Routes feature that allows to plan multi-stop routes, even over multiple days. Last trip to Cancun, we did a multi-day "archaelogical sights" trip through the Yucatan - Cancun to Chichen Itza to Merida (overnite) to Campeche (overnite) to Coba to Tulum to Playa del Carmen.
Not only was I able to plan the entire route on the GPS in the comfort of my home before the trip (connected the GPS to home power source with USB cable), but even hotels and food joints. Saved a lot of time.

Only feature I miss on this unit is Hands-Free/Bluetooth. The 1490 in the model family comes with that feature. The extras I recommend are a USB cable, a wall charger plug and a protective case.

Maps for Mexico, Europe, Australia, etc are available on microSD cards on eBay which are Plug-and-Play (you just insert the mapcard in the slot on the side of the GPS)

Do yourself a favor - use your smartphone for walking directions BUT use a nice GPS in your car (the portable ones like the nuvi 1450 are great for vacation travel in Rental cars).

Even though discontinued, they are reasonably priced Used models are available on eBay, some even come bundled with International maps and extras like Protective cases and USB cables

It's a pretty nice product.

Replaced a Nuvi 350 that was feature rich, & this new one just doesn't have as many. It has a very nice sized screen & easy to use as ever. The volume is nice & loud but sadly it doesn't play music or audio books like the nuvi 350 did. The junction view is an attention getter in advertisements but it turns out that it only comes up at complex junctions to help with lane changing. If you’re accustomed to a garmin with more features then carefully compare before getting the regular 1450. I understand there are like 3-4 versions of it.Lire l'avis complet...

Alex

I'm from Canada, the one I had was also a Nuvi 1450 but it had both Canada and USA maps. This one only has USA, so I have to upgrade the maps, otherwise, it is working well.

Nice over all

This is really a good GPS, has some great features to it, only down fall is I live in a rural area, and it does not pick up many of the small secondary roads, I bought this so I can have a good gps to go out west with thru the plains and the mountains, but I worry about it not getting all the roads, and getting lost. I have done all the downloads on it, so. But for city driving and stuff like that, it is great, it shows you the lanes, and what way they go, and tells you well in advance that you need to move over. Great GPS for city/populated area's. Not so good for rural areas.Lire l'avis complet...

Great Product. I highly recomment it

I just purchased the nuvi 1450 about a month ago and I love it. I had two Magellen's and had problems with both of them. It would just shut off and for no reason and not come back on for 15 min. Thank goodness I have GPS on my phone because i had no idea where I was when this happened. It would also send me much out of my way. This Garnin Nuvi is great. It was recommended to me by friends and I read the great reviews and they were right. Screen is nice and big and clear. It is very updated and easy to follow.Lire l'avis complet...

Good experience

Like most people whatever you buy it's great because you bought it!!! My Magellan was stolen out of my car from glove compartment the road mate was simple to use the Garmin 1450 not the latest but easier to see the map . Takes a while to program goes by states not like mapquest from -to so in summation : display ***** features. **** ease of use : *** overall value: I bought it on Ebay and I got a good price the people I was dealing with were wonderful. The shipping on everything is too costly.

Well built, Easy to See and Hear. Touch screen works flawlessly.

I purchased this unit mainly for my wife that always seems to get turned around when going to new locations. After giving the unit a full charge I decided I would try it out for myself. I turned the unit on, input some basic info and " VIOLA" found my location instantly. I in put a address about 15 miles away and hit go. The unit scanned for a moment and then gave me the fastest route. Using this on the freeway is exceptionaly easy...it does all the navigation with voice and visual, with turn by turn direction. I purposfuly made a wrong turn and the unit found a new route in less than 3 seconds. I have downloaded the free map update which took about 2 hrs to complete but is worth the piece of mind that I have the latest update. You can also download different vehicles to use as "Your Vehicle" I downloaded a heli for mine. You can also download new voices for free. The downloads were painless, hook unit up to pc and they will talk to each other. Garmin has made a very nice GPS with the 1450. It does not seem to need much of anything. There are not so many bell and whistles that distract from what this unit does best...navigate!!The only gripe I have and its not really an issue is that when chargeing the unit the Garmin logo is lit all the time and I wonder about screen burn in. I would recommend this to any user in need of a dependable GPS Unit. I am now going to get one for myself just to have.Lire l'avis complet...
