Garmin Street Pilot series just keeps getting better

.....Garmin Street Pilot series just keeps getting better...and with this top-of-the line 500 series...they probably created a near perfect unit. I bought my first GPS a few years back, and was completely satisfied with the c330 model. (Purchased at a steal in '05 for under two hundred.) But the c580 model, takes the same c330 and adds a ton of bells and whistles, for even less! Super quick satelite reception is immedietly noticed, as well as a much improved screen and satelite reception strength. It is sharper, more detailed, and non-glare, even in bright daylight. What I like best about this unit is the simplicity of use...After all, who wants to be frustrated with complicated screens...when you are just trying to get from point A to point B. The ready-out-of-the-box GPS is so cool, especially with the included 1 year subscription to the MSN direct service. MSN provides the user with weather forcasts (as well as current conditions). MSN also provides directions as well as prices to the nearest gas. It has the local movies, including times showing, as well....The safest and coolest part about the device is it allows for complete hands free cell phone use thanks to built in bluetooth, with microphone and speakers built in. Voice command available for phones so equipped....it will even allow the user to access their contacts in the phone directly from the GPS screen....just touch and talk! Incomming calls are also shown, including name, with an answer or ignore prompt button pop-up. Additional points of interest (POI) can be added online, and you can even customize your icons on the map with several diffent cars or trucks with custom colors. Built in MPS player, photo viewer for splashscreen shot, and memory slot for SD memory, to add files directly from your home computer. (includes patch cord for USB connection) Windshield mounting using included, which has a rear-view-mirror type swivel. (This allows for any angle viewing. Also has dash mount disk. (These are permanent, so please be advised) The 12 volt power supply also supplies the reception for MSN direct. Unplugged, it will function for aprox. 8 hours with internal lithium battery. MSN function requires 12 volt cord plugged in to update. You can still pick these up here on ebay at a fraction of the original nine hundred dollars in '07. I highly suggest you grab one of these units before they are gone!Lire l'avis complet...

Garmin c580

Garmin continues to lead the GPS market, and the new C580 continues this trend while adding MSN Direct with a free 1Yr trial. I was very happy with my C550, same screen, same functions, but the C580 included the 2009 Maps and the MSN trial subscription. If I had added these functions to my C550, the cost would have been more than the C580 (I bought a refurb unit, my third!).
My C340 I retired to my motorcycle with a RAM Mounting system (also on EBay), and it has worked extremely well for about 3 years. It also has the "street named" in turn directions, but the screen on the C550/580 is much brighter.

I have used my Garmins all over the country, and the C340 took us from Atlanta to Sturgis, Sd for the big Harley rally this year. The new C580 was a tremendous help in September as we toured Europe for two weeks. I added a Europe chip for $50 from EBay, which I will relist and sell soon!

I highly recommend any of the Garmin products, and have my eye on the Nuvi series. However, the C580 is one of those things "I don't leave home without".
With the prices and availability on EBay, many of our franchise clients have picked one up for their vehicles, and they continue to tell me stories of how it has saved them time, money, and reduced stress trying to read directions enroute to a customer location. A car mounted system is great, but compare the price, portability, and upgradeable features, Garmin is the way for me!

Very satisfied. Would buy it again.

I've been using the Garmin StreetPilot C580 for over three months now and I'm very happy with it. I bought to replace my previous Magellan 2200T which was very disappointing. The Garmin solves all the problems I had with the Magellan and then some:
1- The points of interest database is pretty good. Not perfect but good enough. I used it a lot of times to find the closest anything: department store, attraction, park, hotel, ...etc. I was never disappointed.

2- The directions it gives are very good and the maps are a lot more up to date than the Magellan 2200T.

3- It has a "Browse Map" feature that allows you to just browse the map, click on something on the map to know what it is, and then get directions to get there.

4- The MSN Direct service is free for one year.

5- Everything is very easy to use. Setting up the preferences, or the bluetooth is a snap.

Things that need improvement:
1- The traffic updates from MSN don't seem to always be up to date. It sometimes warns me of heavy traffic ahead when the traffic is actually flowing well.

2- On a couple of occasions it gave me vague instructions like "take ramp ahead" when there were no ramps ahead. These were very rare and it always recovered very quickly.

Overall I'm very satisfied with it I would buy it again.

What's more the StreetPilot c580 allows you customization via optional software such as Travel and Savers guides on plug-and-play SD cards.

Excellent - great product - great value

This is the 3rd Garmin unit I've owned, each one is a step above the last one. The graphics are really clear, the directions are precise and the help it provides while driving is priceless.

The convenience of the bluetooth feature is not only a great benefit, it's safer than holding the phone and better than the phone's speaker option.

The MSN direct is a really good feature and is most helpful in congested areas.

The Garmin garage also has really neat upgrades for vehicles to use on the unit. Over the past 2 years that I've owned the Garmins they have added some really good "vehicles".

I've never used another product and with the ease of the Garmin, I don't imagine that I would go to a different brand. I highly recommend Garmin to all my friends and many have purchased their own units.

A very satisfied customer in Panama City, FL.

Garmin C580 GPS - excellent value & rich in features!!!

Excellent function and value... I especially like the bluetooth handsfree speakerphone that allows me to comply with California law and eliminates having to wear a headset. My purchase was a factory refurbished unit that has performed flawlessly for me. The MSN Direct functionality is a nice touch and I'll use it during the free 1 year period, however, I doubt I'll pay the cost to renew upon expiration.

This unit replaced an older Magellan unit I've had for 4 years. I am satisfied with the accuracy of this unit and the fast synch time to satellites. Even though this unit is a couple of years old technology wise and is fairly large and bulky by comparison to units available today, I saved hundreds of dollars by buying a refurbished unit and not being sucked in with the latest and greatest... there are some great seals out there for the C580.

All in all, this unit has exceeded my expecations. I do not regret forking out the $150 I paid for this unit... well worth every penny!!!

Garmin Street Pilot C580

I purchased this unit for my wife. She is not comfortable driving outside of her home town and our our community we live in now.
The unit has lots of amazing features which are usually found on the much higher priced models, features such as text to speach, street names, plus the additional functions including the MSN Driect which by the way is free for the first year, make this GPS unti incredibly useful.

The only negative point I could even mention is that it is larer than the Nuvi models that have recently appeared on the market. While the consideration for the sheer size of this unit may be a factor you might consider before deciding on which GPS is best for you, I would strongly recommend you find it at a retailers location first and see if you think the size is that much larger than the comparable Nuvi unit which is priced about $100 more.
Overall this GPS unit is a great deal for under $200!

Garmin street pilot

This garmin street pilot is the biggest GPS they make. It comes with all the USA maps in it. My wife and I love this thing, We drive places we would never have dreamed of because the gps gives you directions. It was the best when we were out house hunting in a new area. We justed typed in the address we wanted to see from the listing and followed the gps right to the front door. When we were traveling down a major interstate and the traffic came to a dead stop, we just got off the next exit and hit the button detour on the gps and it recalculates your route, that easy. No more sitting in traffic for us.
We see roads and places we would never have dreamed of seeing with this gps. We were looking to buy a gps and we knew from our friends that we wanted a Garmin and almost bought the smaller nuvi version until my wife was looking on ebay one day and this one was for sale as the deal of the day. We got a great piece of equipment at a great price.

Garmin c580 is the way to go!

I reviewed many different brands on different sites to try to get an overall picture of the gps systems available. There were pros and cons to all as some people only will write negative reviews and these have to be scrutinized with all the good ones. However I found more positive reviews for the c550 and c580 streetpilot as compared to Tom Tom, Magellan, Harmon Kardon, and many others. For someone beginning I am very pleased with this unit. It is out of the box and ready to go with what it comes with; usb cable, car power charger, case (protects screen mostly, msn traffic for one year, and easily updates on the computer. I used it first and then read the directions for more detailed info on some of the features. Downloaded 6 voices, English American, England English, and Australian. Use the latter the most so far. If you decide to get this unit, my opinion is that you will like it. Research though for your own personal tastes as I did. MSN traffic does not work in all areas of the US but you can look at the coverage areas on the site. Have fun hunting and may your purchase be as satisfying as mine. 3 year warranty not bad either for $24.99!Lire l'avis complet...

Another Great GPS

I have 3 Garmin GPS's now. A StreetPilot 320, StreetPilot 550 and now the StreetPilot 580 (3 cars to use them in). The 320 was purchased used and is an older entry model that is good but basic. The 550 and 580 are basically the same but the subscription services offered are different. The 580 is spot on with directions and has a good response time even on city streets. MSN Direct also offers more info than the FM Traffic Service of the 550.

The only drawback (if it really is one) is the screen size compared to more and more of the newer models. With the current pricing of these units though, you really can't beat the deals that you can get on them. If you get one, you won't be dissapointed.

The bluetooth works great with my Blackberry Curve. My wife on the otherhand has trouble with the 550 (again basically the same unit) and her Palm Centro. We have tried and used other phones without problem.

Make sure that you are covered in your area for the subscription services. If not, you will save yourself money on any unit without that option and the GPS functions are all pretty much the same. The coverage areas are not very big and don't cover rural areas so do some research.
