it was everything listed

well out of the box I mounted the tourtech and plugged in the GPS. Set a destination and took off... worked great. hit a rain storm and kept on ticking along... I can go inside a restaurant and eat without taking off the GPS now that it is in the locked secure cradle. Love it. Yes it's older, doesn't have newest maps and is thick bit it works great, easy to see while riding and easy big buttons even with motorcycle gloves on.Lire l'avis complet...

Garmin StreetPilot 2720 Car GPS

I have purchased two of these. The first one had problems, which Garmin was great at finding the problem and replacing the unit. The second one I purchased for a friend worked great out of the box. The good points are it is water proof and can be used on a motorcycle, it is easily portable between automotive vehicles, just unplug, and the pillow mount stays secure from vehicle to vehicle, making it easy to move from dash to dash, or dash to floor to keep out of site. The only negative I have with the unit is there is no internal battery, so you need to have a 12 volt source. A separate power feed is available through Garmin to provide power from a motorcycle. For a portable unit, screen size works well with up coming turn warnings. I have a friend (a third unit) who has used his for 2 years on his motorcycle with no problems, this is why I purchased the two I bought. Hope this helps with your choice, I enjoy mine.Lire l'avis complet...

Very Capable GPS Unit - But No Battery Operation

This unit is very user friendly and doesn't take long to figure out even without reading the directions. It's been very accurate so far and is fairly easy to understand. I have only 2 negatives to cite about this unit. The fact that it has no internal battery means that it must be plugged in to use it. It only offers you the "Fastest Route" and the "Shortest Route". I would like to see a "Scenic Route" offered. You can change the settings to keep you off of main highways, but that's a bit cumbersome for when you're just getting in the car and driving. That's not a huge deal, but I do miss the cordless operation.Lire l'avis complet...

Garmin StreetPilot 2720 Car GPS Receiver

Great System! Wouldn't go on a trip without it! This unit gives clear detailed instructions, easy to use. If you are in an area that you are unfamiliar with and would like to find a certain type store or restaurant, you can just key in to look for either and it will list all stores/restaurants within a certain number of miles. It will tell you how far away they are and give directions to get you there. It is a tremendous help when going on a trip when you are unsure of your directions. You can choose shortest distance, avoid certain roads, etc. This system has saved us a lot of miles on several trips by giving a shorter way to get to our destination. You also don't have worry with trying to watch the map on the unit. The unit has a voice system that will tell you just before your next turn, which way to turn, which road you will turn on, how far it is, how many miles to go until your next turn. If you happen to miss what the voice system said you can hit a button to repeat. If you happen to miss your turn you can just keep driving and it will direct you to either turn around or you can keep going and it will give an alternate route. The only downside is that there are so many roads being constructed that in order to keep a current map you have to purchase an updated map. They have new maps each year but you can usually get by for 2-3 years without major problems. Some of the roads will just not be identified if it is not updated.Lire l'avis complet...

Ease of use is the main advantage to these units

I have owned 4 of these units, 2-2720, 1-2730 and a 2820. 3 are still fully functional over many years. While admittedly these are old units, they function great for me. The one overall feature they possess is the remote control unit. Being older and preferring large cars, trucks, it's not so easy for me to reach up to the windshield to use the touch screen. I can sit back comfortably and use the remote for all my needs. This one feature make these units superior to the modern ones available todayLire l'avis complet...

Garmin 2720 Street Pilot

The Street Pilot works well and has a lot of features for a unit of this price range. I would have preferred a suction cup mounting rather than the bean bag, which actually works pretty well, so I probably will get used to it. The screen is a god size and very legible. I had a problem with the first unit (brand new) in that it would not boot up. The Garmin technical service was a joke in that they respond within 3 business days to a problem; Which I thought was an unacceptable amount of time. After a couple tries at updating the software, I sent the thing back and had it replaced.
Bottom line is, I like the unit but Don't count on Garmin responding to a problem in a timely manner. I was disappointed in their customer service.

Good unit overall

So, why am I doing a review on a product that is technically discontinued? Simple: If you need a unit rated for motorcycle use, this is the most cost effective way to get one right now, the newer models are very expensive by comparison.

The good: The 2720 finds satellites very quickly and is user friendly, not many frills to sort through. The unit appears to be well protected from shock/vibration and steps have been taken to keep moisture out. (I am not certain that it is water proof though, haven't had it in any serious rain) There are rubber coated buttons that are more glove friendly than the touch screen.

The not-as-good: Compared to newer models, this is a pretty large piece of gear and I had to be creative to keep it from blocking my gauges and/or hitting things when steering is at full lock.
Viewable map area is not as large as some newer models but does the job. Software for my desktop is so-so. There is NOT a battery in this model so if I turn it "on" before starting my motorcycle, it goes "off" because of the electrical draw used to crank the bike. Not a big deal but I do a lot of starting/stopping in forest areas to site-see and if I need the maps I have to wait for the unit to start back up and find satellite signals again. (I was able to fix this with a diode and capacitor used in the power lead, anyone with some electronic knowledge can help you if you want to do this).

The bad: Haven't found anything I think is "bad" in the month I have been using this GPS.

Garmin 2720

Bought the Garmin 2720 for use on my motorcycle. Have not had the chance to use it on the bike, because it is January and I live in the North East. But have had a chance to us it in the car over the weekend, traveling to NYC. GPS works great, easy to use, my unit was updated with 2010 maps so I had no problems. Only complaint I have, is since I purchased it used off Ebay, I need a 25 character code to unlock the code for the software to be loaded on to my lap top? I guess I will need to contact Garmin and I will have to pay for that... Other than that the product works great. Looking forward to planning some trips on the Garmin to use on my bike....Lire l'avis complet...

StreetPilot 2720 for motorcycles

This is a very good GPS for the motorcycle. It's easy to use. It's easy to read while travling. I'm in the mountains alot so the altimiter is handy. Just a couple of things I don't like about the 2720 is #1 you can't hear the speaker while travling. You can hear a ding when you have a turn coming up however and the directions come up on the screen. #2 there is no battery backup so when you stop and leave your bike you have to unplug the unit to put it away and it stops keeping track of your trip info at that time. Short of that I'm very happy with my 2720.Lire l'avis complet...

Garmin Street Pilot 2720 GPS

I am very please with the Garmin Street Pilot Model 2720. I am using this unit in a car and on my Motorcycle. I am able to use the Harley Davidson Ride Planner and upload my route to the GPS. Know that this unit is waterproof and suitable for use outdoors and exposed to weather. This unit does not have an internal battery and will need a constant power source for use. The screen can be adjusted manually for brightness or you can use the auto dimming feature ( I use this setting). It does not have all of the bells and whistles but meet my needs just fine.Lire l'avis complet...
