Wonderful device for marine and outdoor adventures.

Perhaps, my review about GARMIN 76Cx will be no competent and even would laugh someone, but I try ...
I bought this product consciously, knowing the technical characteristics and scope. I know that there is a more advanced model CSx, but the additional features that it has not improved the basic functionality of the device, while only increasing the cost burden (barometric altimeter is not very necessary for the water surface and I prefer the magnetic compass compared to electric).
There is the parallel model range, is GARMIN 60 Cx/CSx, but it has a drawback by using on water, 60 th do not float - they sink down water.

I have already tested my device at the fishing on a motor boat and one-week adventure tour about the uninhabited area of my country (northern Karelia, near Finland).
And now that I liked other than good design: very fast and accurate determination of location; handy menus, ergonomic position of the control buttons (all steps by one finger), contrast screen, clearly shows the line on the map, and possibility to change the batteries, given me chance to walk away from an electrical outlet.
As with any thing, 76Cx has flaws, it is the non large screen (by the zoom, the map's details out of screen border); the cursor button a little tight and somewhat large dimensions (in the women's arm, it will look as huge)

In general, I am pleased with the device.

Excellent GPS for the outdoorsman, boater, etc

Had a old Garmin 12 Version 1.0 - loved the simple way it operated but it was having trouble picking up signals and no longer dependable. I like this unit as it only take two batteries, has clear colors, zoom in and out easily, quickly can name waypoints and the PC connectivity. I do not like the map that came with it and use this item in the Louisiana Basin - I downloaded a free topo but it is still not of very good quality - I do not like the many screen functions as I basically use track (on and off) and waypoints to locate hunting stands and underwater nets. This unit acquires the signal quickly and preforms well.Lire l'avis complet...

Lots of features but small display

This unit locks in good with little wait, has many features .easy to use for most things, but the screen is very small and is hard to use in a moving boat or car.seems ok for hiking or use on foot.the reason i bought it i have a blue chart i can use in it.the display should have a higher pixel count ,when zooming in it gets blockey [you can see the blocks well]but you get alot for the$ compared to other unit with these features.Lire l'avis complet...

Excelent device!

The GPS is exactly what I expected. Feed the device with Garmin Bluechart (or any other nautic charts I believe) and It can guide you through a heavy haze or unknown region. Detailed info from the charts combined with the excelent GPS precision make it so easy...

The only CON I found is that the GPS is an eager battery eater, remember to carry some extra pairs of alkaline AA batteries when using and happy boating. :)

Good for dual sport riding

This is a great unit for off road motorcycles, easy to use buttons with gloved hand and fairly large color screen, the battery connectors on this model fall apart so be wary of poor connections.

Great unit for everyone.

Simply the best/ price handheld gps on the market. I am a professional surveyor and GPS data processor and have used garmins since the old #12 came out about 20 years ago. The 76 can hold 1000 wpts with the chip and 500 internal, save multiple tracklogs and is more than funcional recording data.Garmins are the most widely supported handheld gps in regards to mapping and processing software both professional and recreational. There is no comparison to the clunky magellans file systems and interface cables.
For some good free mapping software use the demo versions of Mapwel or Ozi explorer.
These are also a bulletproof model. I have an old 76 that has to be at least 10 years old that has been bouncing around the truck and ATV that refuses to die.

Garmin 78Cx

The software on these units seems to work much better than the newer 78 series. Minor differences, but I don't know why Garmin just can't fix their product. These are getting a little hard to find now because they are too old for Garmin to support.Lire l'avis complet...

They don't make them like this anymore

This handy GPS has met all of our boating and hiking needs, hands down; it takes a licking and keeps on ticking, to say the very least. We've owned ours for a few years and it still work likes new. Highly recommended!Lire l'avis complet...

Practical and Accurate. The big coordinate numbers are the differential. A+

The main advantage of this model of GPS is that it has big coordinates numbers so it makes easy to see them. There are good maps and the accuracy is good. The size is a bit big, but its not heavy. The 2 AA batteries lest for a long time. Beside this Garmin is a traditional and very good GPS maker, so the menu and all the navigation is very easy.Lire l'avis complet...
