Older system, but still relevant and user friendly.

I have really liked this system and think that it is a cheap alternative to some of the other GPS systems available that are really expensive. It has a large and easily readable screen. Backlighting system is the green light type, but is easily visible as well. That is where I disagree with the other reviewer. I have used this GPS for VFR help in many different situations and think it is a great adjunct to your other VFR navigation tools. This would be a great system for folks that just need a backup as well. My 2 cents.Lire l'avis complet...

Still flying! The Garmin GPSMAP 195 gets you there!

The Garmin GPSMAP 195 is one of the best legacy aviation GPS's around. Big monochrome screen is easy to read. Not fancy- but still effective for VFR navigating. Others became useless when the satellite system was upgraded. But these still work fine. Durable, easy to use, great value as a backup. Plenty of used accessories too. Lire l'avis complet...

Vintage Garmingpsmap195 is better than many new portables.Databases can be updated quickly and economically by americangps. A very reliable source.

I bought a garmingpsmap195 soon after they were introduced. They were the best handheld available then, and cost about $1200 new. (Much more now with inflation). They still meet the needs on almost all VFR flight, and even have rudimentary Instrument approaches. Great for backup for a $15,000 GPS.The database can be updated for $49.95,on a computer, but can be s royal hassle to do. Repairs at factory not available. My approximately 15 year old still works great, but button labels are about worn off. No problem, just redo.Memory battery is easy to replace.2032 I think. I just bought a very gently used one , with a fresh database, for about $120, including shipping. Many are available that are essentially new, having been carried in a flight bag for backup only.Great buy and will meet VFR and IFR backup as well, or better than many new portables.Lire l'avis complet...

After 20 years, it is still one of the best aviation gps on the market.

I originally purchased my first 195 in 1996 for a $1000.00. Now you can get it used for almost nothing. It is still one of the best aviation gps on the market.

Garmin GPS 195

I have had a Garmin 195 since 1998 and it works great. No problem reading the display back then or today. If you don't need the latest and greatest gadget this is a nice tool to have in the cockpit. Just purchased the latest Navigation update, for North America, on the Garmin website in preparation for PA to CA trip. Downloading it only took about 10 minutes. Plan on keeping this tried and proven GPS for quite some time.Lire l'avis complet...

Great Entry Level GPS

Has all basic functions. It's nothing fancy but works good and is easy to operate. Simulator mode allows for pre-flight training on GPS operation.
