Great Product!

This GPS watch changed the way I train for races. I am a fairly new runner (about 2 years) and am just beginning to work on increasing my speed. This watch has allowed me to pay closer attention to my speed during my runs without having to map out my run on mapmyrun.com beforehand. The only thing is that the instantaneous pace is not very consistent, but I have found that the mile lap times and distance calculations are quite accurate. I have also found that the virtual partner is a good way to track your pace without having to look at the instantaneous pace if you plan on running at a consistent speed (set your virtual partner to the pace you want to keep, then try to keep up with your virtual partner). Overall this watch has given me additional motivation for running. I love it!Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent!

I had an old Garmin 310xt that was leaking water somehow and the display was fogging up. I contacted Dan and he correctly diagnosed it as having a swelled battery. I sent the watch in and paid extra for priority mail on the return shipment. I sent it off on a Monday and Dan had it back in my hands the following Monday; I really appreciated the quick turnaround. The watch is like new now.Lire l'avis complet...

Fast work, but new batter was worse than the old battery.

My Garmin 310XT was down to around half of it's original battery life of 20 hours, it would die after 11 hours. I send mine in to get a replacement battery done. It came back in about a week, very fast turn around. However the first time I used it after a full charge, the watch died in 8 hours, slightly less than before I sent it for battery replacement. I can see slight nicks on the watch face cover and am fairly sure the battery was replaced. I'm guessing the battery that they used is not exactly brand new.Lire l'avis complet...

In conclusion : my first Garmin and i love it

* The Garmin 405cx improves the whole running experience. You can plan your practices ahead, especially intervals workouts that makes your Garmin a personal trainer. The display has 3 fields in 3 or 4 different screens which you can change in a tip of your finger - the upper display is very clear but the other two are quite small and hard to track in a very intensive practice. I choose to display the pace in the bigger spot. the HR in the HR has many option and is very usefull, including online graph.
The virtual partner is a great fiture which motivates you to maintain your speed and not to fall back behind your goals.
the garmin connect is the big bonus of this watch and gives you all the information you need and much more from every practice.
If you want to get history data like : elevation gained, top speed, hr range - you must use garmin connect and you can't have the detailed data in your watch. you can only get the basic data in your watch and the advanced data in garmin connect. be aware.
The battery showed 50% life after only 2.5 hours of gps on mode. It has to be charged frequently and i believe it can last for 4-5 hours of gps on mode but no more. in power save mode the battery last 10 days approximately.

For a HRM to count calories, get a Polar. If you want GPS, get Garmin.

Few things I'm disappointed about.
1. the heart rate monitor is NOT compatible with the cardio equipment at my gym. We have Lifestyle treadmills and bikes, Cybex ArcTrainers, and Procor ellipticals. Pretty basic and none of these machines read heart rate.

2. AND THIS IS MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT! The calorie calculation is WAY off. Prior to owning this HRM, I've used a Polar F11 for about 4+ years. It was so beat up, it was time for a replacement. On an hour run I cover about 7miles. During that run, my heart rate averages about 155. My Polar would record 800-900 calories burned. This Garmin 405CX reads about 550. It's disgustingly low compared to what I'm used to seeing, depressing and discouraging.

However, I do really like the Garmin Connect that uploads after every workout to Garmin's website showing heart rate, distance, pace, and a map if applicable.

I'll be watching Polar for better GPS tracking with their HRMs. Put my Polar on a map and uploaded to a user dashboard similar to Garmin Connect and I'd be a happy camper. My #1 reason for choosing this Garmin model was to record calories and it does that very poorly. I'd return it if I could and invest in a new Polar instead.

Made me a Real Runner

I have been using my Garmin Forerunner 405CX for about a year. I love my Garmin. I am sorely disappointed when, for one reason or another, I do not have my data to review after a run.

What I like about it:
* I like knowing the distance I've run. This is so motivational to me!
* I like knowing my pace for each interval (however I have set it up).
* I like being able to set up workouts on the computer, transfer them to the watch, and then have the watch basically tell me with beeps what to do: Run a warm-up, run 800, rest 200, run 800, cool-down, etc.
* I like being able to set up my screens to reveal the information that is important to ME.
* I like uploading my data to the Garmin Connects website. I like to see my run on the map, see all the splits, look at my monthly calendar to see what I've accomplished, and look back at prior months to see my progress.

What I don't like:
* Sometimes the bezel touch is too touchy. It doesn't like rain and it doesn't like too much sweat. Suggestions to deal with this: wear a sweatband under the watch and change the touch settings for a "heavier" touch. Or lock the bezel when you start your run.
* The watch can occasionally "lock up." This is particularly irritating at the start of a race. Some ways to avoid this happening - make sure the watch is fully charged when you head out for a run, know how to restart it (hold Enter and Quit for 7-10 seconds), start the watch a few minutes before a race is scheduled to start - make sure there is plenty of time for it to locate satellites. Touch the bezel every 10 minutes to keep it from going to sleep and losing the satellite location!

A few other random thoughts:
* I like having my default splits set to 1 mile. If I'm not doing a specific workout, getting mile splits is nice.
* The tutorials on YouTube are terrific.

Using the Garmin has really allowed me to get a better idea of pacing for distance running. I think I'm a better runner because of it.

Best looking GPS watch that will turn heads!

This watch does it all. The battery goes down pretty quick if you use it 5 days in a row for runs of a half hour or more with the heart rate monitor & footpod like I do. But the technology and the use with garmin connect is amazing. Well worth the battery life when it comes with a charger that you can practically plug in anywhere. I got the blue because it was cheaper than the in demand black. I don't know about others, but i'm not taking a chance. Garmin is like having a GPS unit on your hand. I bought this for training to monitor my running and biking! Love this watch. It's sync'ed with the satellites that give us our time. Nothing is more accurate. Just wish it was waterproof up to 3 meters thats all. It's water resistant for up to that depth for up to a half hour, after that you're chancing it.Lire l'avis complet...

Awsome worth every cent

I found the using of the Garmin very easy. I have had othe watches in the past that where as easy to use but this one has significantly more features. The touch bezel made it hard to control what you wanted to do at times as it fast forwrds through things. Trying to train is fantastic. Picks up satelites extreamly fast. Have had trouble up loading my information onto garmin training. I believe this is more operator error over the watch short falls. overll a fantastic piece of kit. the setting for interval training is great and the opertunity to create custom programes is fantastic.Lire l'avis complet...

Great Product

It's my first purchase from US on 14th Feb 2011 and received it on 18th Feb 2011, shipped via FedEx, surprisingly I'm not worried. Thanks to cyberetronics for making my purchase experience a great one. Bought it at a reasonable price, not sure where to get this item locally and would think that it will cost more, for sure.

The bezel could be annoying at first if you're not the kind who likes to read manual like me. But once I know how to navigate, I'm all good. I have been running for more than 1 year now and this helps a lot with getting accurate distance and time. My first time using a GPS watch, got me excited. I used to get friends to map my route with gmap and run with my SE W810i for the stopwatch function. It was kind of annoying to be carrying the phone around. Less 1 item to hold when running, less straining to the arm.

The watch sort of froze after my 22km run last Sunday and I reset the watch (after reading instruction over the internet), the data is still there just as mentioned in the instruction. Installed the application for the ANT stick, manage to figure out how to connect through the garmin connect. I love the summary, it shows your average pace, pace for each km, the route and etc. Was very happy with that. I also love how the watch shows your pace when you run, you know when you're slowing down and could do better. I have updated the garmin watch's software, no problem after that.

This watch could last 8 hours if in use. It could last for 2 weeks with battery saving mode (correct me if I'm wrong), so far no problem with that, you use up battery power when GPS is turned on. I have yet to try it with HRM though, am gonna try that one of these days.

Overall, it's a great product. Definitely love it.

Running

Excellent piece of kit. Have been running just with a stopwatch for the past 2 years and decided to buy the garmin 405cx for training towards the London marathon. No more having to map where I had run as it does that for you along with speed, calories burnt, heart rate and so much data analysis. Great for pacing your runs, tempos, easy, long and intervals.
Wondered at first how easy it would be to use but once its found its signal which doesn't take a minute, your off, with it showing as little or as much info on its screen as you want to monitor as you run.
As soon as I get home the wireless dongle has started to download the data instantly I'm in range. Mileage, time spent, and projected race times all accessible straight away. So much easier seeing what distances you are covering and when those all important shoes need changing again.
Recommend the this watch. My easy runs are better paced now along with my speed and long runs.
Well worth every penny.
