Still a top contender, in the superzoom class.

I previously owned an X-S1, and sold it in order to own a DSLR kit. But after a year I really missed the X-S1, and bought another. And I'm glad! These features make it a joy to own: quality construction, excellent focal length range, pro-like body controls, or easy EXR or Program operation if point and shoot style is preferred; great jpeg quality. Film simulations are very useful. After researching various superzoom cameras I believe the X-S1 ranks with the best. Is it equal to a DSLR or MILC with a larger sensor, in performance and image quality? No. But it's a very capable do-everything camera in one package for the traveler or hobbyist. The only negative for me: raw conversion software is hard to find for the EXR processor, and what I've seen is hardly better than properly executed jpegs.Lire l'avis complet...

X-s1

The Camera arrived Packed very well. The original photos were not revealing of the problems. The model has Lens Droop as many others of this type have suffered from before Fuji fixed the problem. It is not a deal breaker as it does not seem to interfere with its operation. Some scratches on the LCD are also apparent (not in the description). Also not a deal breaker. The photos are exceptional and I am pleased with the overall operation of the Camera.Lire l'avis complet...

Awesome camera for travelling

We bought this camera in anticipation of a trip that we just completed to Italy. What a great decision! It takes super crisp pictures and the optical zoom range is impressive. The fact that the camera is weather proof turned out to be a great feature as it rained nearly every day of our trip. The camera will take a little practice to get great results, but if you simply leave it in SR mode it works pretty well for most situations. The key is to press the shutter button half way and let the camera adjust focus and light levels, then snap the pic. If your subject is off center and either too light or too dark, first center the subject, then press the shutter halfway, let the camera adjust, then move the framing to what you want while keeping the camera button pushed halfway down, and then click the picture. Keeping the button pushed half way down locks in the focus and light meter. There are a bunch of other great built in features / filters. The camera is a little bulky, but still smaller than any DSLR, and weighs a fair amount, but it seems really durable and quality built. We got about 300-450 pictures per battery charge, so I recommend buying an extra OEM battery so you don't get caught with no power while you are out shooting. Overall, it is the best camera I have owned for travel photography!Lire l'avis complet...

The Swiss Army Knife of cameras

Built like a tank, lovely twist zoom that's smooth, love Fuji's logical and easy to use menu, very good IQ, gorgeous jpeg's, very good EVF, focal range to cover every situation. If you like macro photography, this one really delivers. A great family or travel camera. Have been using the EXR feature in challenging light (evening, shadows, contrast, etc) and this mode really helps with the detail and dynamic range. All around excellent camera.Lire l'avis complet...

Best Super Zoom to date!

I have a recent model XS1 that avoided the earlier problems of lens drooping and blownout highlights as well as some sensor issues.

The XS1 is the best point and shot (but it is really a much more advanced camera and performs like a dslr grant it without having the same sensor).

First of all the ergonomics and build of the XS1 are outstanding. The body is made of a strong rubberized material and overall is semi water sealed though not entirely. The camera feels good in the hands and grip. I've read that the camera is bulky and heavy and this isn't true at all. The camera is light considering that it has an over 600mm lens on it. There are numerous buttons on the back and top to easily function through exposure, white balance, ISO, etc. The XS1 is a well thought out camera. The camera is an advancement over the normal super zooms as it has a 2/3s sensor and had the largest sensor in its class outside of recent Sony and Panasonic models. The camera follows the X system of overall better advanced end Fuji cameras, including processing. The XS1 has an excellent swivel lcd screen as well as good EVF which is a bit grainy, but better than none. The mechanics are outstanding as there is almost no mechanical sound and you feel the camera working fast and flawlessly. A very smooth performer.

Image quality with the XS1 truly rivals and give an excellent film look to images. Photos are sharp, excellent tone and perspective. The various film modes offer choices for the user including various b/w affects. There is in camera RAW processing that does a good job in post processing of images

Here are some tips for using the Fuji. I shoot only in RAW but the basics apply.

If blown out highlights occur, change your aperture from f2 or f4 to f7 or f8. This will immediately end the issue of blown out highlights. Also make sure that in day light you are using ISO 100-200 and not 800 and above.

I wait to process a photo in camera till later. In b/w the green filter is the best and most contrasty allowing for that rich b/w film effect. When processing b/w choose highlights at standard and contrast or shadows at medium hard or hard. You will see superb b/w photos.

When processing color I prefer Provia or stand default setting but at medium high color setting as Velvia is overly saturated. There is a lack of contrast or darkness to the images in general so I had medium hard shadows to accentuate the photo.

I can't comment on video or EXR use and leave that to others.

Again the Fujifilm X-S1 is the best superzoom on the market now. I've had Canon's excellent SX50 which does have a longer zoom, but performance of speed, flexibility and overall image quality is better in the X-S1.

The X-S1 is one of the better cameras I've owned as I've had everything over the years (Panasonic G series, Samsung NX series and a few Canons).

I look forward to the next generation of Fuji X superzoom hopefully with a four thirds chip in it and a touch screen.

But I couldn't be happier with my X-S1.

THE Best Camera for the serious photographer for traveling.

I bought this used camera as a "spare" to my other Fuji X-S1. The XS-1 is THE PERFECT travel camera for those of us who are interested in HIGH Quality photos without the bother of interchangeable lenses.

In the past, I carried a backpack full of camera equipment when we traveled all over the world and although the photos I took were often stunning, I felt like a pack mule! I still have all of my DSLRs and associated equipment, but see no real advantage to using them on a regular basis.

The X-S1 has a lens that goes from wide angle to telephoto and the photos taken with it are sharp and outstanding.

The XS-1 is not for the average snap shots, but if you want to actually take the time to compose your shots rather than just snap them with your phone or other low end camera, this is the camera for you.

It's heavy (quality heavy) and its optics are superb. I will not be without it.

A great camera and I like it.

This is a great camera for the person that wants a high quality "do it all" camera and doesn't mind spending the money. Not real small and not real light, it has the feel of a DSLR and will handle most photo situations without the need of interchangeable lenses. The manual zoom is really nice and the manual focus works well. It's not perfect, but nothing ever is. Get the EF-42 flash and the RR-80 remote release and you'll be good to go.Lire l'avis complet...
