MILD FRANKIE

Always been a fan of older horror movies. Like Bela Lugosi's DRACULA etc.. Wanted to see
how this Frankenstein The True Story was. It is a mild story, not scary at all, but it is OK.
A different point of view. Not sure I would Call it a Horror movie.Lire l'avis complet...

A lovely adaptation of a true all-time classic

I was very glad to find out that this tv film had been released in DVD. I used to watch it as a pre-teen whenever it was scheduled to air on my local broadcast (I live in Brazil) and since then I knew that there was some value to this adaptation.
This version claims itsef to be the most close to the original play, as it is entitled as THE TRUE STORY, as a matter of fact, I never really read Mary Shelley's novel, however, I feel that this must deliver it indeed.
Boasting an icredible cast, with actors like James Mason, Agnes Moorehead, Sir John Gielgud and the gorgeous Jane Seymour, it brings a sense of theatricality within and it sure converts itself into a heart-pounding thriller.
As far as the dvd features concern, it's not an over the edge production, the only extra is some previews from other tv series, and was it has been meant to show on tv (it's an early 70's production) it features only an original 2.0 mono
track, with a full frame 1:33 aspect ratio.
I think that despite being a tv production of the early 70's, Universal could have done a better job, at least, including a 5.1 track, with some extras.
All in all, I loved to watch this film again anyways, especially after all those years. It always will bring me back some good old memories of my late childhood / early adolescence and it's indeed a worth having piece, very powerful and entertaining.

Finally the complete Frankenstein mini-series

It is about time that Frankenstein: the True Story finally made it to DVD in its complete 3 hour presentation. Some over the top performances by James Mason and David McCallum, Jane Setmour's debut and a superb Michael Sarrazin as the Monster and fine production values and cohearant story makes this Frankenstein every bit as timely and important as the Karloff version of the '30's and Lee version of the '50's. This DVD would rate an Excellent 5 star rating if not for some bad sound. Sometimes I had turn up the volume to hear what was being said, then turn it down so not to be blown out. Also, it could have been given some better treatment with some extras or commentary. Still, after over 30 years from its way to TV to DVD, its great to own and watch again in its complete from. Once owning the VHS version, it was itself a fine version, editing out about an hour and tightening the pace and action of the film was not bad. But tight and action packed is not what it was meant to be. It is a cautionary tale being told cautiously, deliberatly and with great style and grace. Own this version ! You will not be disappointed.Lire l'avis complet...

Decent adaption of the book

Decent adaption of the book. No movie has ever done a good job telling the story as written. This movie gets a lot of it right but there are some serious flaws.

Frankenstein - The True Story

Frankenstein: The True Story, strives for greater faithfulness to Mary Shelley's novel than prior versions. Thus, as in the book, Dr. Frankenstein's (Leonard Whiting) creation is no monster, but a handsome young man of high intelligence (Michael Sarrazin). In fact, the doctor and his creature are the best of friends until the latter's body begins to deteriorate. This sends the creature over the bend into insanity, prompting Frankenstein -- with the help of his evil mentor, Dr. Polidori (James Mason), a character not in the Shelley novel -- to try, try again to create a viable synthetic human. The film ends more or less as the novel does, with the outcast Frankenstein and his creature expiring in the frozen wastes of Antarctica. Adapted for television by Christopher Isherwood, Frankenstein: The True Story was originally telecast in two parts on November 30 and December 1, 1973.

Ehis is the second Frankenstein movie that I saw when i was young. the first is the classic with Boris Karloff. But this is a great movie originaly a 2 part mini series, but a great movie..

A Fantastic Version Of A Classic Horror Story!! Simply The Best!!

I remember watching this movie on TV back in the early 70's and was thrilled to see it released on DVD. It is BY FAR the BEST version of Frankenstein ever produced. The Boris Karloff version of Frankenstein is classic but this is the most realistic version ever done! It has a wonderful story line that goes deeper than the traditional Frankenstein movies. It has real emotion to it provided by great actors. Nicely produced with good special effects. It is a little lengthy at just over three hours but that is because this version provides details NOT SEEN IN ANY OTHER VERSION! I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good horror movie. It is well worth your time. A great, unique version on a classic horror tale! ENJOY IT!Lire l'avis complet...

Bare bones, yet meaty.

I remember watching this in the late 70's when it aired on "Saturday Night Dead" following "Saturday Night Live", (get it?) in the Detroit area. I find this movie far better than the recent remakes that's overly reliant on blood and gore, rather than the humanity of the monster, its creator and other characters. Lire l'avis complet...

Saw this movie when I was younger, and wanted to see it again. Not to bad.
