Unlimited gameplay!!

A unique gaming experience! When you go online to play this game you will truly be in a different world complete with politics and economy. The game saves all data on the server so even if you get disconnected you spawn exactly where you left off and with exactly everything you were still holding down to how much Health Points and Magic Points you have left.

The game is very hard at first as you almost cannot defeat any monsters on your own. Staying true to the Final Fantasy Genre... you need to create Parties with other Human-players and team up against monsters to level-up or do quests.

Unlike the previous FF series there is no concrete story-line but rather different Quests with stories that tie into them. Some are long some are quick. Awesome battle engine and complex combat strategies make this game a must-have.

There's so many things to do and learn that no one could possibly finish this game in one lifetime!

If you're not patient don't play this game... it's hard to make money... and level up... even power-leveling with a buddy gets tough. Definately not your regular online game!

There's no hacking and PK in this game so that's also a plus!

Come online and meet me! World: Valefor Name: Kaisen

FF11, a great game but something is missing

A great game. While I wasn't a big fan of MMORGs (Primarily due to computer difficulties in playing them), this has changed my mind a bit about them. It reminded me a bit of WoW with the factions, and the various quests ensure quite a few months of game play.

The drawback I see is that, while the graphics are great, the game seems to dependent on expansions for any continual play, which makes questing a bit of a pain some of the time. Unfortunately, at least in my view anyway, monsters are a bit over powered. You practicly have to form parties, which is a bit tedius at times.

Overall, this is a great game, although I think anyone new to online rpgs should try a diffent one due to difficulty. Other than a few flaws, its well worth the money to buy.

PS2 Hard Drive & Final Fantasy Package Deal

Overall a nice package deal but it doesnt come with the network adaptor which is required to hook up the hard drive! Ended up spending almost as much for the adaptor as I did the package deal. The hard drive installs easily and the software is easy to follow but be caustious that if it has been used already, you will need to setup a new ID with Square to actually play the game at $100! Another problem is that the PS2 doesnt recognize the hard drive as a device to save game data to for most games. I may need to reconfigure it to make it work right just havnt had the chance. Overall, a nice addition to the PS2 but if I had to do it over again, I would only buy the network adaptor and skid the game because you can only play the game online and you need a paid membership to do that.Lire l'avis complet...

Buy an used PS3 it is network ready!!

Wow, I don't know where to begin. I bought this bundle which included a 40Gb hard drive, two game discs, utility disc and three manuals. The manual for the game is around two hundred pages long. If you want one, make sure if its opened or used that the registration codes haven't already been used or its basically worthless. First of all, it requires a network adapter (sold separately) which is the stupidest thing because without it once again its worthless. So, after getting one off eBay I installed the HDD (40Gb hard drive AND network adapter) into my PS2, no problem very easy to do. I am pretty smart with computers but let me tell you, from this point on you almost have to be an IT tech to get this game up and running......The game is pre-installed on the HDD but you can't open it until you download the PlayOnline viewer program, which is on disc 2 that comes with the bundle (along with another game). Needless to say, it's on a disc that instead of being the normal shiny, reflective, mirror like surface you're used to seeing on a CD or DVD, it is colored blue and unbeknownst (is that a word) to me the PS2 has a hard time reading blue discs. You put it in and the unit makes horrible noises and you get a cannot read disc error....GREAT!! So know this is again almost worthless because to summarize without the viewer you can't play the game. After searching google, luckily, I came up with an easy fix. Putting two pieces of tape (I used scotch) (wanted to use whiskey, LOL) opposite of each other close to the inner hole of the disc(label side NOT data side). Okay things are looking up, the disc now is readable, software is installed. Now comes the agonizing task of registering the game, creating an ID and an account (keep in mind this is after you have figured out how connect the PS2 to your wireless network) which you used to be able to do from the PS2 (create account) but now due to security breaches, you now have to go to your PC and do it. Which my friends the website is the most confusing website you will ever encounter IMHO. So, now if you can jump through all these hoops you might think you can now play the game........wrong. Twelve hours later after the update installs, which somewhere in my journey prior to this it did a different update which was long (about 10 mins) when your anxious to play a new game. This bundle is NOT for the average consumer. I got it cheap ($4.00) and I see it going for over $100, I would be even more disappointed if it weren't for the fact of getting it cheap.Lire l'avis complet...

Excellent game for the series, but can't play off-line.

For those who are avid game players, like myself, the Final Fantasy series is top rank for RPG's. Final Fantasy XI (or FFXI) is a wonderful Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (or MMORPG). The Purchase I made was for the base game with the first expansion included, and the 40gb hard drive for the playstation 2. The primary reason I purchased it is that I do enjoy the Final Fantasy series, and at the price that I paid for an opened, but unused, game, it was an excellent deal. The only real drawback, as I said in the title, is that you are unable to play the game off-line.Lire l'avis complet...

One of the best MMORPGs I've ever played.

First and foremost, if you can buy it new, do so. I got my copy used, and unfortunately PlayOnline doesn't transfer accounts. I found that out the hard way. This is the ONLY downside to the game, but if you buy it new, you won't have this problem.

AS far as the actual game goes, it's awesome! Have you ever played an RPG and wished it was just you on the adventure? Not two otrher people you have to look out for? Then your wish has been granted. Create up to 16 characters inb a game and travel through the beautifully rendered countrysides as you battle monsters of all kinds. Go it alone or eventually join a group of adventurers ranging from warriors to monks, ninjas, or mages. Choose the job of your choice and advance in it as far as you'd like. Even become a mercenary if you like. Whatever the quest, you'll love it.

The graphics are great. The country side is alive with people and monsters as you travel. Be careful, because some may be stronger than they look.

Another cool factor is Tetra Master, a card game that you can play online and off. Think of it as Final Fantasy's version of Magic the Gathering or YuGiOh. It's a great way to pass the time and meet new people to adventure with later.

One last thing to remember is that there is a monthly fee. However, I look at it like the cable bill. You want to keep the great movies and channels, pay the bill. If you want to meet people, fight epic battles, and enjoy Vanad'iel, then somebody's gotta maintain the servers, right? Besides, it's very well worth it.

So, I hope this helps and enjoy the game!!

PS2 FFXI/HDD

I've always wanted the PS2 HDD although I never really knew much about it other then it being included with the FFXI game.
I figured that with a 40 gig HDD I wouldn't have to worry with a dozen or so memory cards and having to fidget with them.what a disappointment all my games and my console still notifies me that a 8mb memory card is still needed for autosave or to save any game data.
I guess the upside is that you can move your saved data to the HDD snd free up space on the 8mb cards.but you'll have to reload your game data back if you want to continue where you left off in that game..

Massively fantastic, but be Warned

I was reluctant to buy this game, even as a fanatical fan of the Final Fantasy series. Eventually I bought it, and have recently signed on. While I find the story elements a plenty, this game is more about interacting with other players all over the world in what is perhaps the largest RPG I have ever played. I'm about level ten, but have been taken under the wing of a good friend of mine who happens to be on the same server I am. He's lead me around massive deserts, huge mountain paths, seemingly endless valleys, and I have only seen a small portion of the country of Bastok. We haven't even set foot in the other countries. It's absolutely amazing to me how much of this game there is. I can explore for hours on end and still be only scratching the surface of the country.

I am truly entranced by the weather system, and the sheer variety of people and monsters you encounter.

I do have a few disappointments however. Perhaps this can be attributed to the massive undertaking that this game is, running on the PS 2, but I have been able to see both the PC version of the game and the PS2 version running side by side (LAN party) and I must say that the PC version is drastically better looking. Putting it bluntly the PS2 version is simply ugly. Final Fantasy X and X-2 are much better looking games. The draw-in (or pop up) distance is much greater in the PC version, and barely noticeable. I remember one instance where my friend and I were running side by side toward a structure that he could see clearly on his laptop, but hadn't yet begun to be drawn in on my PS2 version. The lack of detail, and polish for the PS2 graphic creates a mind boggling eye sore. For a 128-bit system, this is awfully disappointing.

Money is also very scarce, which makes buying new weapons and armor very cumbersome, and the user interface has quite a huge learning curve. It's not the simplest game to play. The lack of options in character creation is also a disappointment. More options by way of hair color, clothing, etc would have been nice, but over all I'm pretty satisfied with my character. These things aside FF XI is an amazing game, but won't be for everyone. If you're not excited by the idea of endless exploration, and if you want something more story focused, FF XI is not for you. Also, considering the PS2 version costs twice as much as the PC version, and that is nowhere near as polished I recommend the PC version over the PS 2 version. Sad fact is that FFXI is really the only game to really use the Hard Drive anyway. Sony really hasn't made the HDD worth the extra $50 yet. We'll see how that plays out though.

Best MMORPG I've played..

I just clicked the "buy it now" option and was immediately excited. I played the game for almost a year then stopped last summer due to summerschool and work. Eventually, my playonline viewer disk broke, the disk you need to access the game. Here I am now buying it again, and since i have some experience witht he game, I can let you guys in on it.
To me, the ONLY flaw is that Gil(The currency in this world and every other Final Fantasy world if you're a fan) is tedious to 'farm'(attain) and the items are often expensive. Aside from that, this game never once ceased to entertain me.
A warning is that it's a party-based game. The designer made it with the intention of having high-leveld monsters so that you would need a group to defeat them. In my opinion it was genius, for I cannot count the innumerable amount of friends(and enemies) I've encountered via party that have only improved my game experience.
The graphics are AMAZING, especially for the low lag rate this game has. Only in one place will you severely lag, in the main city, the grand dutchy of Jueno. Aside from that, you'll have a smooth experience whether you're dial-up or DSL. I personally play with a cabel modem.
I easily lost myself in this emmersive world, Vana'diel. Whether I was a Samurai or Black Mage, a Ninja or a Paladin, my adventures were always grand and my triumphs amazing. You even get a thirty day free trial!
The game is $12.99 Per month plus $.99 for each additional character. The world is always expanding, new adventures, NPCs, and jobs are being added with each expansion pack. What are you waiting for? Get 'em while they're hot! THey're impossible to find anywhere else.
