A wonderful book that I recommend to any interested. Worth every penny paid

I purchased Lupa's "Fang and Fur, Blood and Bone: A Primal Guide to Animal Magic" partially out of curiosity. I was first introduced to Lupa's works when I was handed a copy of her Field Guide to Otherkin several years ago. (That book is out of print, sadly.) I learned quite a lot from it and this book caught my attention. When I had an opportunity, I bought it from her directly. (She signs her copies and you're directly helping support her!)

I was unfamiliar with animal magic before picking up this book, so I cannot truly compare it to others like it. However, I can say that Fang and Fur has encouraged me to widen my horizons on the subject of animal magic and magic in general.

As with the previous book I'd read by her, Lupa provides a reader with multiple views of the information present and prefaces many things with what her technique or opinion might be. All the information is present with an additional note that you should take it all with a grain of salt. What works for you might not be what worked for most others or visa versa.

The book touches many aspects of animal magic ranging from the basics, like working with familiars and totems, to some of the more controversial topics such as shapeshifting and animal sacrifice and provides fairly neutral stances on all terms. The book is very good about bringing home it's points on all topics and that it is something that should be honored and respected.

I do have one singular complaint concerning layout. I would have really liked there to have been more divisions within the chapters listed in the table of contents. As I plan to use this book as a reference, at least for a time, it would be nice to be able to easily access areas within each chapter, but that can be remedied with book tabs or markers.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and plan to make a few more notes about it. It's also been a springboard that helped me get interested in the subject as a whole, which I think is a good indication of the quality of the information within. It is a fast read that I honestly wished was longer. (Though, I'm not quite sure what else the author would cover if it was!)
