Wait for fresh Material

"To be honest, the first few episodes don't live up to the previous three seasons. While they're funny, the jokes are often predictable and, worse, there is way too much self-referencing. The first episode, "North by North Quahog" is almost frustrating in its pure adherence to repeating old jokes. The greased-up deaf guy bit was funny maybe once - but there are definitely diminishing returns when he's mentioned every other episode. Another example is the long fight with the chicken in "Blind Ambition;" it was funny once before but borderline tiring here. While some fans might enjoy the returning jokes and self-referencing characters, it really comes off as a lazy way to get a rise out of viewers.
The show isn't ruined by lazy humor - the Star Wars ending of one of the early episodes remains one of my favorite jokes in the series - but this set doesn't really get back up to speed until around the fourth episode, when Meg becomes good-looking. At that point, we get some amazingly creative humor. It's almost like MacFarlane and gang decided they had thanked their fans enough and could return to what made the show successful in the first place.

The humor remains deliciously offensive, such as a hilarious discussion between Cleveland and Joe in which they place racial symbolism to the sport of bowling. The show retains its wonderfully tasteless references and great non-sequitor asides that originally made the show stand out. Furthermore, the fourth season seems to have had a larger budget, which provided for more diverse episodes that allowed the show's creators to have multiple scenes and complexly animated sequences.

Something to also consider is that Family Guy: Volume 3 has only about two-thirds of the fourth season. While this is somewhat understandable - the run of the fourth season was shown in two halves - it still makes this set feel the most incomplete of any Family Guy release so far. This set runs at a measly 292 minutes. That's 200 less minutes of show than Volume 2's 495 minutes and nearly half of Volume 1's 624. Fox seemed to care more about pushing this set out the door in time for the holiday season over waiting for a more complete collection of the fourth season's episodes.

But by no means is Family Guy: Volume 3 a rip-off. Even if they're not all gems, the majority of the episodes here are classic. And fans will be pleased to know that many of the jokes which were cut from television broadcast are restored here. Add in the best special features of any Family Guy release yet and you've got a set well-worth owning for fans. " ign.com

I'd give it a B+

I bought this dvd off of ebay for two reasons, one, because i can get an unpirated copy for half the msrp value. The other is that i'm a huge family guy fan, i've seen all the episodes, and have the first 2 volumes already. The reason i gave it a 4/5 instead of 5/5 is not because the material isn't good, its because i feel that the producers are starting to rip me off. The reason i feel this way is because the first volume has 4 dvds, and 7 episodes on each one. The second one has 3 dvds, and 7 episodes on each one. The third one(the one i'm talking about) has 3 dvds, and 4 or 5 episodes on each disk(13 total episodes). Also i bought the 1st and 2nd ones for $35 at walmart. The 3rd was priced at $40 AND HAD HALF THE EPISODES!!! If it wasn't that i felt that the company was starting to rip me off i would've given this product an A+. That's my opinion on the subject.Lire l'avis complet...

Why We Love Family Guy~

Hi! I decided to buy this particular DVD, because it is an integral part of my
husbands "Family Guy" fetish...I must say I am guilty as well, & actually proud to be! You see, there are millions of people who not only tune in to watch this crazy family; for it has developed almost a "cult" following...but With people everywhere setting their Tivo & DVRs for Sunday nights at 9pm...to watch Peter, Lois, Chris, Meg , Bryan (the dog), & (my favorite) the baby Stewie, doing some of the craziest things to push the T.V Execs. to the edge...
well, lets just say...SCORE!!!Fox has a hit & they KNOW it...the amazing bit of trivia that I love the most, is that Fox took creator Seth McFarlane & Family Guy off of the air, & after approx. 35 shows flopping, & a record attendance @ Adult Swim to watch Family Guy, well...they did the math & hear we are...Imy husband & I will collect Family Guy toys & collectibles, forever...why??Because we know a sure thing when we see it & then see it again!!LOL If you want to watch something with a very dry satire & unique sense of humor...tune in Sunday nights @(check your local listing) also check your local listings for various other times & networks who know a gold mine when they see it too! All in all...Family Guy is a winner...most agree with me...some don't...watch it & you decide...thanks!!

Family Guy's Volume 3 Review by Pinklisa1472

My husband and I are big fans of the Family Guy. We especially love the talking baby, Stewart, and the talking dog Brian.
It's full of silliness and makes you laugh outloud. Unfortunately, this is not a show that you can watch while the kids are up. Despite it's cartoon appearance--this show has adult humor and lots of sexual inneuendos. But if you have a crude sense of humor (like me!), you should love it.
I bought this particular volume for my hubby's birthday and he was thrilled to get it.

Family Guy..Season 3...Nice...

Family Guy is a GREAT show on fox.. while not for everyone, its still one of the funniest shows on TV. The DVD set includes all the episodes from season 3. They all look and sound great. The Special features are a tad weak, but i doubt anyone is buying this for the "special features" you want the goods..which is family guy. Anyone who likes family guy should pick it up ASAP.Lire l'avis complet...

Volume 3

The story of the Griffin family continues in this third collection of the odd and brilliant animated series. Cancelled by Fox in 2002, much to the dismay of its passionately devoted fans, the comedy's huge DVD sales and strong ratings in syndication prompted the network to take the almost unprecedented step of bringing creator Seth MacFarlane's show back from the dead in 2005. THE FAMILY GUY takes place in a twisted suburban landscape that bears a superficial resemblance to the world of THE SIMPSONS, but quickly establishes its own distinctive tone and style, distinguishing itself from that mother of all dysfunctional animated families. MacFarlane's triumphant return to network television picks up where the show's first run left off, mining humor from a mixture of timely social satire, slapstick, and the outright bizarre. Without skipping a beat, the fourth season proceeds with the story of bumbling, well-intentioned father Peter; his sweet but oblivious wife Lois; and their teenagers, dimwitted Chris and awkward Meg. The most recognizable characters, however, remain the family's masterminds: evil genius baby Stewie, determined to achieve complete world domination at the age of one, and Brian, an erudite martini-swilling dog, the family's lone voice of reason.Lire l'avis complet...

Family Guy DVD V. 3

Family guy is genius plain and simple . Now that is my opinion but as you watch the simple animation and listen to and follow along the misguided plots and funny flashbacks and Hidden humor you will laugh . At times the show makes you feel liek a dumb blonde because you at times don't understand a little of the humor now and then , then BAM ! out of no where you just start laughing that you understood the joke.

Now to be a critique family guy is not for all ages mainly mature audiences , the reason this is , is some of the language and adult humor . Alot of times the adult humor is very hidden for younger people to understand but we must be adults and appropriate . Some of the show once in a while feel liek they were begging or reaching way out for a laugh and some of the humor once in a while is very edgy . But in an overall sense it is appropriate and genius how they work every little joke and flashback into the story line . Now some of the things I said above are a ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE factor not in every episode and does not affect the loveable characters in a whole .

Character descriptions .
Peter - the loveable father who is portrayed as a loud mouthed northern overweight man with a smart mouth yet stupid enough to say the wrong thing at the right/wrong time .

Louis - the attractive wife of peter , plagued with a distrait family and a child that wants to be her demise and somehow doesn't realize she can and should do better than peter but that's what makes it beautiful .

Chris - The baby Huey son of them peter and louis , he comes out with strange humor at times and is oversized , has most of his fathers stupidness but in an innocent way .

Megan - The daughter who is not liked by anyone is portrayed as ugly not drawn ugly and just is in her teens and expieriencing teenage drama which noone cares about .

Brian - The dog for the family , but this dog can talk and has a college education , somehow this doesn't matter to anyone a talking dog it's normal his antics with stewie and almost alcoholic habits create humor for all .

Stewie - The favorite of everyone's , he is the baby boy of louis and peter . He can talk yet that doesn't matter an infant as the grammer of a Ivy league professor and a genius of inventing death traps to kill his mother for some reason he hates but loves her the same . His smart alic comments and hostility for an infant are amusing and so loveable with the comic relief he brings by dancing in his diaper or finding out what heartbreak is .

There are so many other characters to describe but I cannot in the space alloted by ebay , they all change and interact with each other perfectly .

This show is not for everyone , mainly guided towards 18 - 30 yr olds but alot of the hidden humor is so enjoyable for all ages and can be enjoyed by anyone .

You literally have to watch the episodes more than once to truly see all the comments and skits performed because you don't realize it but you miss things then you watch it again and see something new that is what is so enjoyable by this show .

The DVD set is the perfect gift for anyone . Some do say the family guy is a rip off of the simpsons but in all actuality it's not . It plots and skits go everywhere and everything and the loveable simpsons have done everything out there so anyone can yell that it's almost a copy but it's so original you understand it is nothing like that at all .

Please Vote if this has helped you , thank you .
