Not the Greatest Rock Album Ever Made, but Definitely Worthwhile

There was actually a scratch on the encoded side of the disc that caused a hiccup on playing it. But I hit it up with some Windex and a little rubbing and now it plays just fine. As to the music, everyone has an opinion. Back in my vinyl days, I had this 2-LP set but rarely played it. I am not a super Stones fan, but I did like and play Hot Rocks (early best-of collection) and Sticky Fingers. I had never really gotten into Exile when I had the vinyl, perhaps because the songs were so short, perhaps. (Sounds weir, I know.) Now I do most of most of my listening in my car, which I just upgraded to near-audiophile levels, and I am enjoying it a lot. It's nice that you don't have to turn over two records in order to hear a bunch of 3-minute songs. It seems to work better for me as a collection that all shares the same shambolic, slightly dirty, country vibe. I don't know if it's the greatest rock album ever made (I'm pretty sure it's not my choice), but for $6.50, I'm definitely glad I've added it to my music collection.Lire l'avis complet...

Buy this album!

Personally, I think it’s the greatest complete album ever recorded, top to bottom.

The Stones were in the midst of their uber creative 5 album run, and this one is loaded.

Highly recommended!Lire l'avis complet...

Probably the Best Sounding CD version of Exile

I've had several versions of this on CD, including an exceedingly bright Japanese SHM CD. To my ears, this Virgin release is by far the most natural sounding. Yes-- it's out of print and therefore expensive but if you're a fan of this album and can afford it, don't hesitate. Lire l'avis complet...

Two cds of this is not enough!

It's hard to say which of the Rolling Stones albums is the best, but this has to one of them. I think every tune has been on the radio, top of the charts. If you've got a Stones collection at all, this one has to be in it.Lire l'avis complet...

Underrated Gem

It took me a long time to discover this classic album. This remastered version sounds great and doesn't suffer from modern compression that's found in so many digital files today.

One of Stone's Best Albums

Before my first listen of this album, I knew only three songs that were on this album. I thought maybe I knew Rocks Off, but I believe that the version that I knew of is a Rod Stewart song. I knew Tumbling Dice, Happy, and Shine a Light. That left 15 songs I didn't know so I didn't really know what to expect. There are a lot of them though that sound sound eerily familiar, and the first time I listened to them I thought they were all right. The second time they grew on me, and after that I thought that this could possibly be one of the best albums of all time. There's not a lot of flash on this album. No big time hit, but a lot of good songs. There's no need to go into the highlights of this album, because they're all equally good tunes. It's almost like a gospel album. I don't know what influences the Stones had when they wrote this album, but it worked brilliantly.Lire l'avis complet...
