Dark and Effective

John Carpenter's electronic score to his 1981 film "Escape from New York", is by now, like the film itself, a cult classic. Unlike Vangelis, Tangerine Dream or Giorgio Moroder, the pioneers who brought electronic synthesizers music to the big screen, Carpenter's early scores where simple, monotonous and minimal in a way. However, even those who disliked Carpenter's style, could not ignore the fact that his film scores where highly effective and managed to capture the unique atmosphere of the films.

The soundtrack music of "Escape from New York" is considered to be one of Carpenter's best, due to the fact that in comparison with earlier scores by John Carpenter, the music here is more complexed and has greater depth. The film's dark and futuristic themes are well expressed by the electronic cues, especially in tracks like "Main Title", "Orientation" and "Police Action".

This new edition contains the original music from the soundtrack with the addition of several tracks and dialogue lines from the film. It was remastered by Alan Howarth, Carpenter's long-time composing partner who assisted him with the realization of the electronic music for the film. The sound is clear and intense, much better in comparison with the original release of the score.

This album is amazing, I listened to it two times, in a row, when I first opened it!

I am a huge John Carpenter fan, he is my favorite director, and one of my favorite composers/musicians!

Great music and voice clips from the film. It's like "watching" the film all over again without actually seeing it. High quality recording work.

Music makes a film

Well listening to this CD is like watching the film all over again. Clearly a polished soundtrack by None other that the film's director himself, John Carpenter. The soundtrack, like so many others by him, makes them film believeable. This soundtrack is , I think his best. Not saying that his others are bad, but its music that does not seem to have a time. Sounds just as fresh as it did when it was on the big screen nearly thirty years ago. The last track was never released before. It kinda does not belong on it and is why it never makde it to the film's release. Also checkout The Fog expanded Cd as well. It too makes the film. I enjoy listening to the CD, as it enhances my experience of the full movie

I enjoy this CD very much. I sought out and bought this CD because I like the movie so much. And, I very much enjoy the soundtrack. So, I decided to buy the CD of the soundtrack. I am quite pleased with the soundtrack, especially the extra tracks from the movie which were added to this expanded edition. I listen to this CD and I can imagine the visual scenes unfolding, from my memory of the movie. Hearing the full soundtrack by itself, I can pick up elements that are not clear in the movie itself. That is an added bonus to my appreciation of the movie. I would recommend this soundtrack to anyone who is a fan of the movie "Escape From New York." One of my favorite films!!! One of the best musical scores of all time!!! Listen to this cd at least once a wk or so!!!
