Lesson of Life

Endurance

In 1914 Sir Ernest Shackleton and a crew of 27 set sail for the last unclaimed prize in the history of exploration: the first crossing on foot of the Antarctic continent.
>Within eighty-five miles of the continent their ship Endurance was trapped and slowly crushed by pack ice. With no communication to the outside world their ordeal would last twenty months.

With Shackleton's inspiring leadership the crew struggled to stay alive in one of the most inhospitable regions of the world. Miraculously, not one man was lost, surviving extreme cold, breaking ice floes, leopard seal attacks and an open boat journey that would be called one of the greatest navigational feats in nautical history.

Excellent book, a lesson of life, you can not have it.

Worthwhile read even though I rate it as "3-star."

The writing is average. It's pretty great how the author compiles the notes and diaries of the crew members. The work that goes into is well worth it. So even though I am not impressed by the writing, the story is good. The effort is there.

This book is easily a four star but for the writing, I gave a 3-star. Good read.

Endurance by Alfred Lansing (1999)

In my opinion, this is a great book!!! We read this story for an 'Antarctica' Unit Study years ago, and it is an incredible biographical/memoir story about a group of men (28) who persevered and in their struggle to return to civilization after having their ship become crushed in the Antarctic ice and being forced to abandon ship to the ice of the Weddell Sea... on foot. 1915. No thinsulate. No modern equipment. People thought no one could survive a winter in Antarctica. Miraculously, all 28 men survived! I highly recommend it!!!

Such a fantastic non-fiction book!

After reading this, you'll realize you have nothing to complain about for the rest of your life, ever. You'll also think twice about complaining about being cold.

Better than I expected

The book was listed in acceptable condition, but I thought it was good upon reception, so I was quite pleased with that. I haven’t read it yet, but it looks great.

Great, real-life adventure story. How the entire group survived such an ordeal is nothing less than a miracle. Great read right up until last page.
