Pretty good exerciser, but still no gym substitute

Ok...if you're like me and you can't afford or don't want to go to the gym, but still want a workout, then the EA Sports Active 2 may be just right for you. It has several workouts to choose from, and it gives you the option of doing a short or standard (9 week) workout. Don't be fooled: it may appear to be a game, but it is a fairly accurate one. It will force you into executing the respective exercises in a specific manner, and that's so you keep using proper form.

So what's to like/love about it? Well, it can get you into decent shape if you stay faithful to the exercises and eat a healthy diet. It has a wide variety of exercises that should keep you occupied. The program has acceptable graphics, but you're not purchasing this for the graphics anyway...the trainer is merely a guide. It does allow you to input some stats (e.g., age, weight, sex, etc.) which it does try to keep track of, as well as other activities that you may be engaging in (e.g., dancing, household chores, running, etc.). It also comes with a green elastic stretch band (my band did NOT come with handles though, despite the package indicating that it was supposed to).

So what's not to like? Well, it isn't always the most accurate in terms of detecting proper positioning between arm and leg positions. So you may have to reset your stances or positioning in order for the system to detect it properly. The other is that sometimes, you CAN cheat through some of the exercises. Also, the amount of data that this system is able to keep track of is based on 3 sensors: one for each arm, and one for a leg. It may track your heart rate (a good thing), but it doesn't have any options if a specific muscle group gets tired pretty quickly. So, the programming is somewhat limited.

Overall, is it worth it? Well, as I said, given the price to go to a gym (or buy your own gym equipment), this isn't a bad substitute. It will get your heart rate going, and it will keep you entertained as you go through the exercises. So long as you stay true to the program and try to NOT cheat, I'd say it's worth trying. Now, whether you think the price you pay is worth it is up to you to decide. Personally, if EA makes some upgrades to the system (perhaps USING the PlayStation Eye), then I could see some SERIOUS improvements being made that would incorporate more realistic motion movement. And the more realistic it is, the better the workout quality. Let's hope for such an update in a future iteration...in the mean time, this version is plenty good as is, and I'd say go for it.

EA Sports Active 2

This is a really good workout. I wasn't expecting too much, but found there are 3 level to choose from so for beginners like me this was a plus. I love that I can do this in my home all alone without making a fool of myself in front of others. I love the exercises that are like biking, skating, soccer, and not only traditional sit ups ect... There is one exercise with the resistance band that doesn't seem to pick up on the motion detector. I don't think its me because it always only the one and it did it with my daughter too. Overall, its a good investment. It got me off the couch and gets my heart pumping, which cannot be a bad thing. Fun way to exercise!!!!!!!!!!!Lire l'avis complet...

Great workout system

It is a great workout system that will give you a good workout. There are delays at times with the system keeping up with the person working out. This is my second set so that my wife can workout with me. The system could be more user friendly, especially for those that do not have internet service. It is complicated to set up a second player if the first player has been using the system for a while. Still, I have recommended it to many people and will continue to do so.Lire l'avis complet...

Despite initial problems, a good buy!

So far I have loved Sports Active 2. I don't enjoy exercising normally, but the program not only keeps me invested but also gives me a diverse workout regimen. My only concerns are that sometimes the sensors don't register my motions as accurately as I would like. Also, when I first tried to use it the sensors wouldn't sync with the system and I couldn't use them. This happened the first two times and then all of a sudden they started to work. I haven't had problems since.Lire l'avis complet...

It's great, but has flaws

I originally had the first EA Sports Active (known as EA Active at the time) on the Wii, and had a rather frustrating time with it. It repeatedly failed to keep track of what I was doing, so much so that in frustration (and covered in sweat) I would wave my Wiimote around, pretending I was doing something.

Thankfully EA Sports Active 2 fixed that...or at least some of it. While it's much better at tracking than it's predecessor, it still will occasionally fail to track you. Gone are the days of waving your Wiimote around like a madman, but instead you'll have to watch your movements and try not to go too fast. Or too slow. This may not sound like an improvement, but it is.
The exercises are more engaging, there's more to do, it's more accurate, and the character creation is better. I don't recall if the first game had co-op, but this one does and it's even more fun with a friend.
The equipment does it's job, and even though the sensors are rather finicky, they do seem to perform well and can even track your heart rate (relatively well).

I think EA was really on to something, but unfortunately there won't be a third. So instead I would consider purchasing this one, because it really does work. After just one session of medium intensity, my muscles were sore in all of the right places and I found myself excited to work out the next day...which is really rare for me.

So if you have the money, I would say to spring for it. Despite all of it's flaws, it's a really neat game.

You will definitely feel it.

To me this is as close as you can get to the real thing.. You will actually feel it in your muscles and see improvement. They thought of everything when they put this together, all the way down to a workout journal, health survey and you can even customize your workout as well as have fun doing it. I'd say this is well worth it..My only complaint about this is that once in a while the sensors seem to get a little touchy but can easily be fixed with a few adjustments. Oh and they also have where you can download content to add to your workout later down the road. Enjoy :)Lire l'avis complet...

Great fitness product! Great workouts to train without getting bored.

This product is one of the best fitness product I've ever bought. It comes with 3 sensors to detect your movements, a "pendrive" to synchronise with the sensors, a resistance band for some of the exercises you'll be doing, and the disc.
The product supports multiple languages, and lets you customize your character (weight, length, etc). You can select from three difficult settings, customize the workouts, and select which area you want to focus in.
The game is great as there are tons of different exercises and you won't get bored while working out. You can also buy another "EA Sports Active 2", and play with another person.
You can even join online workout groups and do the workings with other people from around the world.

It's a MUST have if you're a person that wants to workout, but get bored doing so. This game won't let you down and will be really entertaining.
