great classic game

Players control Woody through 17 stages (18 for the Mega Drive/Genesis version and 10 for the Game Boy version) that encompass the entire plot of the film. Several obstacles lie between the player and the goal of each level, not least of which is a wide assortment of enemies. Woody is equipped with a pullstring whip, which will temporarily "tie up" opponents, letting Woody pass by unharmed. It cannot, however, kill enemies (with the lone exception of Nightmare Buzz, the only boss in the game to be permanently defeated through the whip). This whip can also latch onto certain hooks, letting Woody swing above perilous terrain (similar to Earthworm Jim and its whip mechanics).

The game occasionally changes genres for a stage. Players control R.C. in two stages: one in which Woody knocks Buzz out a window, the other in which they both race back to the moving truck. Both play largely the same; the game takes an overhead view of the level, giving the players basic acceleration, braking and steering, and tasking players with reaching the end of the stage while not running out of batteries (which drain constantly, but can be replenished by bumping them out of Buzz in the former stage, and merely finding them on the ground in the latter). The Mega Drive/Genesis version also has an exclusive level in which Woody rides R.C.'s back while rushing back to Sid's house to fetch Buzz; this stage plays very similar to OutRun, but has the same condition of maintaining a battery level. Lastly, one stage takes place in a first-person maze similar to Wolfenstein 3D, in which Woody must find alien squeak toys lost inside the claw machine and return them to the play area, where the rest of the alien toys reside, all within a time limitLire l'avis complet...

A typical license game

This is more or less a bog standard license platformer, you run, jump, and collect items for points.

My only issue with the game is that the game doesn't communicate to you what is needed to bat a level or a stage. It isn't had to guess but it is still annoying.

Overall the game is fun and typically sells for less than $10, but there are better platformers for the GenesisLire l'avis complet...

A nice nostalgia piece if you had it.

I remember spending so many hours of my youth in front of my first video system which was incidentally a Sega Genesis. 15 years later I can still remember all the titles I owned for it and since nostalgia hooks everyone at some point I recently got a Genesis and proceeded to track down all the games I remember playing on it. One of the few I remember beating in my childhood is Toy Story and let me say that the challenge from my childhood is no longer present. The time it takes to beat the game is maybe just a little bit longer than it takes to watch the original movie but for most it may not hold your attention that long, especially because the plot is the same accept it adds time to certain segments for the action while others are reduced to little text boxes. Honestly the story doesn't really matter if you saw the movie so lets move on to the playability of the game. Being an older game there is no save option so the short length is a point in its favor and the lives system will almost ensure you die before even reaching the end. The graphics are good for a Genesis game and game-play wise it's standard side scrolling action. Running, jumping, ducking, and using Woody's whip (falic joke not intended) are all you really do when you're not ripping off several other games from the early 90's (there a 3d Doom segment, an Outrun style racing segment and a few others to boot) but it's solid enough to warrant a mention. Honestly this game is mainly for those who played it back in the day or those who want to try out something old and off the beaten path but otherwise you need not pay it much attention.Lire l'avis complet...

This is a great game for young kids

This is a good game for young kids it goes along the Toy Story Movie so my 4 year old son loves it. I only wish that you could continue with lives where you left off instead of starting all over again.Lire l'avis complet...

Still a classic!!!

This game is still awesome to play and now I have kids I decided to pick up my favs for a sega I had won in a drawing. The kids love it, I love it. Great game, fun to play.

Toy Story for Genesis was fun back then, and even more fun now.

When I was young, my family had a Sega Genesis, and for that Genesis we had Toy Story. Now, almost 18 years later I have it once again, now able to actually beat it. This game is a fun little adventure, with many action packed levels, and a tough, but not cheap difficulty. My only complaint is that it is too hard for children to play without turning on Invincibility, which is very cryptic in it's execution. Don't buy this for your kids unless you're prepared to sit with them and help when they get stuck. Compared to other licensed games on the Genesis this one stands out as a fun, and very entertaining platformer, with wonderful music, and colorful graphics.Lire l'avis complet...

Great condition and fast delivery.
It was money well spent wanted to bring the game I played as a child to my kids.
