A powerhouse of a tower!

I know all the media hype about the death of the desktop and how everyone is opting for laptops and tablets. That may be fine for a lot of people (I have a laptop and tablet, too)but I still find a lot to recommend about a desktop set up with lots of storage and a lightning fast processor. I do a lot of work for my job on my home computer and need a lot of storage for documents, photos, music (yes, I prefer my libraries to be on my hard drive) and misc. stuff and so opted to buy a new tower to replace my much upgraded but old (10 years) Dell 9150 tower. The new XPS 8500 is everything I could have wanted. Super fast, 3TB of hard drive storage, super graphics and sound cards, and lots of connectivity options. Getting used to Windows 8 after 10 years with Windows XP was a learning curve, but what isn't nowadays. The tower itself is a powerhouse of a computer which I anticipate will serve me well for a good long time. Kudos to Dell. I hope their financial and corporate house is able to be set in order because they are still doing a great job with the hardware.Lire l'avis complet...

Dell XPS 8500

I bought a computer just like this one directly from Dell a few years ago. It has been discontinued but is still able to run anything thrown at it as long as a newer video card is installed in it. I know this is a very good and reliable computer so I bought this as a Mother's day gift for my wife and put a GTX 970 into it. She loves this computer and is very happy with it.Lire l'avis complet...

New Dell XPS 8500 fast, excellent value after solving file transfer issues.

What to do - its tax time and my faithful '02 Dell OptiPlex is so overloaded I can't even run Turbo Tax. I have upgraded the memory to the max and have external drives hanging on all USB's. Time to buy a new PC the experts said. So I shopped and found the perfect solution in my new Dell XPS 8500 from an excellent seller on EBay. Windows 8 Pro and Office Pro came with the deal. It is a lot more than I started out looking for but the price was so affordable compared to competitor's offerings. The Intel ie7 processor and dual hard drive setup is screaming fast on everything. Getting up and running was quick and easy. Don't kid yourself though because Windows 8 is the first really different OS from Microsoft in years. Transfer of my contacts, documents and programs from my old machine was not easy. Windows Easy Transfer in XP is not compatible with Win8. You have to download the Win8 version to the old machine to make it work. Setting up a local network between the old XP machine and the new Win8 XPS 8500 to transfer files didn't work either because of incompatibility problems. All the effort was worth it! I love the new Dell XPS 8500. It is very fast, has enormous Ram and hard drive capacity and so far very reliable. I highly recommend it.Lire l'avis complet...

The XPS 8500 is a Win-Win Desktop. You can't go wrong purchasing this PC!

The Dell XPS 8500 is a true Dell Powerhouse of a PC! I purchased this for my design company and use several editing software's that would break a lesser desktop. My XPS 8500 setup was with the Quad-Core i7 Processors, 16G-RAM, AMD Radeon 7770 graphics card, and a 2Tb hard drive. The AMD Radeon 7770 comes with the proprietary DisplayPort 1.2 which can handle massive multi-monitor setups. My XPS 8500 has handled EVERYTHING that I have thrown at it. For hours at a time I'll have Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver CS6 running; both of these programs require massive CPU performance as well as large chunks of RAM to operate... the XPS 8500 runs these without even kicking on its auxiliary fan. I would recommend this to anyone and have recommended it to several friends. It's a relatively budget desktop with MASSIVE power for the price.Lire l'avis complet...

Seller and his product

Arrived on time. Packaged not so good and it was wobbly. FedEx seemed to have banged the box and exterior was dirty.

Set up was no problem. Started up perfect.Runs very quiet, except sometime I hear slight slight "SHHH" sound in random. One problem is, Cannot register with dell, and it says product already registered. But not in my name, so I will have to call dell for that.
Keyboard is excellent. Just the right amount of tense on keys. Very responsive. Mouse is average.

Surprise: When I turned on the machine, it had digitally purchased software. Adobe photoshop elements 10,and cyberlink media suite. I thought they were hacked software and dig deeper, and turned out that they were real. I was going to upgrade onces I had, and it saved me more than $150.

upgraded to windows 8.1, and works just fine. Here is the verdict;
IT WAS WORTH IT. GOOD PURCHASE. GOOD SELLER. SO I WOULD FEEL GUILTY IF I LEFT ANY STARS WITHOUT GIVING 5.

Good job guys!

Would be a good system for pretty much anyone.

This is an awesome out-of-the box system. It is fast, quiet, and very reliable. I have decided to upgrade it to a master gaming rig so I have pretty much gutted it except for the processor and mobo. I upgraded the memory to 32GB, added an mSata drive for the OS, added a second 2TB HDD for redundancy, upgraded the video card to an XFX Radeon HD 7970, upgraded the power supply to a Corsair AX1200, upgraded the sound card to a Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty. I am in love with this machine now! Out of the box it was a fine system, now it rocks!

I will probably buy one for my nephew as a starter gaming rig.

Great computer on a budget!!

Great Computer, can't go wrong with a Dell. I bought this because I needed a powerful PC for video editing. Most laptops with these kind of specs are pretty expensive. If you're looking for a good PC and don't mind having it be a Tower and not a laptop then go for this one! I got it refurbished for around $600, Great DEal!Lire l'avis complet...

an excellent and powerfull machine .. imagine with an SSD

well I always liked the Dell products and when they talk about powerfull workstations ... they're saying that because is true this machine is a huge monster, what I would change ? probably the 1 tb hard drive for an SSD and obviously a good Linux based distro. And maybe ... just maybe the ATI card ... it all depends .. I do like NVIDIA and ATI if works on design or video editing but overall a great optionLire l'avis complet...
