Good story, good cast, good, good effects, GOOD MOVIE!

I would have paid the $11.00 + $10 for the popcorn/soda to see this. Saw fans will be happy but not better.

The story opens with a good lead in. It's black and white to give you the old creepy feeling. PAY attention! You're catapulted to the present and you need to remember that past scene!

The present kicks in to a loving couple. You KNOW it's too nice and that means something horrible is following. A ring and run leaves a mailed unmarked large box at the door. It's a ventriloquist's dummy. Bad things from the get go follow with a cross between an aura of "The RING". Wife goes! Hubby returns to find her mangled body (minus her tongue) propped up like the dummy seemingly responsible for her death and police (detective) blame the husband!

Husband takes on a quest with the law hot on his tail to find out what happened uncovering an Erie ghost's tale. Ending great! I didn't see it coming! It moved the movie from a B- to an A- (-: get the movie. Anything under $10.00 at eBay is a steal!

I could provide more but don't want to spoil the fun! JUST GET IT!

Dead Silence...hehehe

I thought that this movie was something new and interesting. It was not just a hardcore slasher movie nor was it a movie where all you get it the set up to about 20 minutes of good horror/thriller action.

I felt like this movie had a good combination of both. However, if you are looking for a movie that is filled with blood and guts then you might want to continue looking because although this movie does have a tad bit of blood, it is nothing like a Rob Zombie movie, for example.

Having someone who is dead kill through her dolls is quite a unique idea to me. I think that the people who did this movie really did a good job protraying Mary Shaw. My one complaint is that I would have liked to have had a little bit more of a back story into Mary Shaw's life. Perhaps her life as a child and/or young adult. I think that would have been an entertaining aspect to add to the film.

I don't want to give away too much about this movie, but I do think that if you are looking to watch something with a little bit of mystery and suspense, then this just might be the movie for you.

She'll Rip Your Tongue Out At The Seam If You Scream!

"Beware the stare of Mary Shaw. She has no children, only dolls. If you see her in your dreams, be sure you never, ever scream or she'll rip you tongue out at the seam."

Having seen thousands of scary movies, I will have to say that this one is probably up there as being one of the scariest. The complete tone of this film well thought out and the whole feel of the film was meant to impress evil upon the film. If you dare to watch this and unlock the deadly curse of Mary Shaw upon yourself and others, enter at you own risk.

There is a great deal of potential for many scares, but our director James Wan wanted to wait for the finale to really give you a jolt. The mixture of creepiness, funeral homes, old people, dolls and ventriloquist dummies, broken down towns, and a rich man's mansion all set you up for a thoroughly visual nightmare that wins you respect soon into the film.

The use of black-and-white film within and during the opening credits add a particular nuance of spookiness and evil. The music soundtrack completely sounds eerie with the overlapping singers using ohs oohs and ahhs with deep voices like parts of the soundtrack of Stanley Kubrick's "2001:A Space Odyssey" when they found the black monolith on the moon.

The story about Mary Shaw was supposedly concocted many years ago, but is never been discussed in public, since there is much death attached to her name.

Newlyweds Jamie (Ryan Kwanten) and Lisa Ashen are the first to have a run in with the dummy named Billy, who continues to show up throughout the film. Lisa screams and then she dies horribly and is found without her tongue by Jamie who only left her to go to the store for a few minutes.

Detective Jim Lipton (Donnie Wahlberg) soon becomes involved with the possible murder of this young girl and remains on Jamie's heels all the way to the end of the film. Jamie goes back home to Raven's Fair where he talks to his father and finally discovers the truth of Mary Shaw (a very talented ventriloquist), who (turns out) met her death in a very strange and unnatural way.
Once known for it's grand display of luxury and wealth, Raven's Fair has now become almost like and old ghost town lying in a state of decay. Most of its inhabitants died mysteriously and brutally had their tongues removed, sometimes entire families found this way. Jamie go home to his wealthy father, only to find a young new bride (Amber Valetta) by his side. No one wants to talk about Mary Shaw, let alone whisper her name. If Jamie is going to get to the bottom of the Mary Shaw legend, he'll have to face the town's past alone.

This ghost story will have you guessing all the way up to the very end. I'll give this a 5/5 and will have to watch this over and over. Don't expect this to be like a "Chucky Film", but it could be a great deal more. Be sure and check out the Alternate Ending and the Alternate Opening. It will have your skin crawling.

good and slightly new

This brings a slightly new twist to horror movies. Part ghost, part dummy, part witch, all bitch!
Story revolves around an old lady that did ventriliquist shows being the suspect of a childs dissapearance being murdered and taking her revenge on the families of the town. The story is fairly old (think Darkness Falls) but has a few new twists and the story though severely flawwed is actually interesting. Above average but below excellent. I would recommend Darkness Falls if you like this movie.

Ps. STAY AWAY FROM CROSSROADS AUCTIONS, THEY SELL SERIOUSLY DAMAGED DVDS, 7 OUT OF 9 WERE RUINED AND THEY ARE EXTREMELY RUDE AND LIARS! READ THEIR FEEDBACK AND BEWARE.

Truly Breath-Capturing !! An Honest Shocker/Thriller !!

"Dead Silence" (UNRATED) is the latest frightfest from the creators of the "SAW Trilogy"; and it most assuredly does not let down; or let you as the viewer escape it's nightmare.
An old curse catches up with a new generation when Newlyweds Jamie Ashen, (Ryan Kwanten), and beautiful wife Lisa, (Laura Regan), receive a ventriloquists dummy as an Anonymous gift.
Both grew up in a small town called Raven's Fair; hearing ominous tales of ventriloquist Mary Shaw., who lived with her intimate companions of over 100 dolls; and kidnapped and slaughtered a young child who challenged her dolls as not real.
"I can see you lips moving", the child reels from the audience; 65-years prior.,(as we are shown in cinematic black & white as a hindsight revelation; so well filmed.) The last words ever spoken by the child who turns up dead. Townsfolk, petrified of Mary Shaw's connection, track her down and murder her; burying her with her dolls., (expecting to rid Raven's Fair of Mary Shaw's EVILS forever; but never mention her name!! Townsfolk still whisper.)
When newlyweds Jamie and Lisa receive their anonymous doll "Billy"., they recall the curse legend as if a childhood joke remembered. Yet, when it quickly is gruesomely presented to us that "it's far from a joke"; Jamie must leave everything behind; and race back home to Raven's Fair. -
Dogged and tracked by Cynically Hard-Nosed Realist "Seen-To-Much-For-A-Lifetime" NYPD Homicide Detective Jim Lipton, (Donnie Wahlberg), Jamie returns to uncover the town still whispering of Mary Shaw' curse; and his father (paralyzed and remarried to a beautiful young woman named Ella (Amber Valletta); speaks openly of his involvement in Mary Shaw's revenge-driven execution 65-years prior.
The horrorfest is unleashed !!
Exceptionally well-choreographed and enraptured in throbbing, well-done sound-effects and intensely drone-settings of scene-prescence and presentation that is frankly "PERFECT"., this frightfest from "Saw" creators Leigh Whannell and James Wan draws upon immaculate pacing. Their formula for great success in chemistry leads to tension-packed cinematography and gifted storytelling; in tandum to their classics "SAW".
"You Scream., You Die," is the movie's tag line., as each victim's tongue is torn-out "IF" they scream (the scream is the mechanism that sets off the killer).
The black-and-white prologue that opens the film is so stylish and exceptionally well done, what follows is the gruesome inflictions only "SAW" creators minds could derive. Wan's visual instincts are the partners' greatest strength at this point in their career. Their storytelling ability is., once again., in full overdrive.
(For movie-enthusiasts: Catch the clip where; in tracking Mary Shaw to her lair in the haunting attics of a theatrical hall in Raven's Fair., Detective Lipton and Jamie uncover a room where all dolls have been unearthed from their burials and encased in a wall-to-ceiling case. The dolls revealing they are alive - in a brief shot catch the "SAW" - JigSaw Puppet propped against a wall!! - A visual tribute/homage to the first success' of "SAW". You can easily miss it., so look good !!)
Don't be fooled., "How scary can a puppet-movie be"?
I challenge you to try and sleep well !! - "Dead Silence" (UNRATED) has all the thrills, tension, horror and gore we would expect from it's "SAW" forefathers.
SEE THIS !!!! -- Guaranteed Success & Entertaining Nightmare !

Dead Silence Review

When I click "yes" on entertaining, I am inferring that it is suspenseful and fun to get frightened. I don't think that it is entertaining to watch torture or murder.

I appreciate how this film has very little language and sexual content. When I say little, I mean, that nudity can't even be found. It is very clean in that respect. I also think that Jamie is very attractive and that the story is intriguing-especially the dolls and the clown. I think it was a unique way to tell a horror story and include everything that frightens people. Lire l'avis complet...

Liked it so much that I bought it!

The only thing I didn't like about this movie is that it was not long enough. I thought it was an awesome little flick and had to add it to my horror collection! It wasn't as scary as I hoped, but it did give me a few good chills. The storyline was great, the whole Mary Shaw thing was similar to Bloody Mary which I liked. And the twist at the end was amazing!! I'm sure if I watched this alone in the dark I would have nightmares for weeks lol...I try not to watch scary movies alone so maybe I am under estimating the "horror value" of this movie. All in all, it was great fun! Give it a try!Lire l'avis complet...

This movie will have you sitting on the edge of ur seat, biting ur nails off

I seen this movie a few years ago after it came out on dvd, and it was great. It's such a scary movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat biting your fingernails off. The doll they use in this is terrifying itself. I think they could have just set the camera on the doll the whole time and still would have had a terrifying movie! I love it and I would definitely recommend it to any horror movie lover like myself. Definitely glad I found it on ebay for such an amazingly low price!Lire l'avis complet...

A disappointment.............

After reading rave reviews from critics and other viewers, I decided to give this movie a shot. Was disappointed. Went in expected a movie similar to Child's Play (aka Chucky), where the doll does the attacking and killing, instead in this movie the dolls don't really do anything just sit there... I mean WHAT??? When you make a movie about ventriloquists, I expect the dolls to do a bit more than just sit around, but maybe that's just me. Not a single thrill/chill in the movie for me, average story with an expected twist for an ending, but overall a huge let down. My grade for this show a D-.Lire l'avis complet...

dead silence

not bad entertaining. If you like creepy puppets
the lead character is the same man that plays Jason Stackhouse, from Trueblood and the investigating Cop is Donnie Walberg, so thats an added bonus.

Movie starts with main character getting a Puppet from a secret admirer. The evil Puppet kills his wife (in a very unusual way)which leads him back to his childhood home to face some ugly truths about his families curse.
