AS FUNNY AS I REMEMBERED!!!!!!

A LONG time ago I remembered seeing this movie on the television. I've been searching for it for years and I couldn't remember the name of it. Thank goodness for eBay. I asked a movie Seller here about it and I was given a couple of names and one of them rang a bell, DARK STAR.

This is a fantastic student project by John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon. It's a predecessor to HALLOWEEN and ALIEN. The music composition is vaguely familiar, but the plot of the movie is very humorous and hilarious and a tad optomistic, but sad at the same time. There are quite a few scenes that mimick ALIEN as well.

Low budget special effects include muffin tins, tiny brooms, beach ball aliens, lots and lots of knobs, buttons, lights going on and off, hoses, airduct suits, etc. It's a must have for any video library! I recommened the extended version of the film. It fills in a lot of the gaps.

I'm so incredibly happy that I found this movie after all these years and it's as good as it was the very first time I saw it. I gave the film five stars out of five because it's SOOOO GOOD!!!!Lire l'avis complet...

Sci-fi comedy that made me laugh out loud.

Dark Star is basically a low budget student film but it's still excellent sci-fi on a shoestring budget. It's also funny as hell especially the suicidal AI smart bomb and the beach ball alien scenes.

Great direction makes it work

"Good Carpenter First!"

John Carpenter's 1974 sci-fi comedy features a group of
space explorers dealing with mishaps while on a mission
to rid unstable planets. Carpenter's first film is good and
this dvd has decent picture and sound plus 2 cuts of the

If you liked ALIEN, this is the humorous progenitor.

The film is rather mediocre on the whole, but is quite humorous to the thinker. This film is a must for fans of John Carpenter pictures or Ridley Scott's ALIEN.

Best alien ever

This movie is not for everybody but I really enjoyed it it's the early work of these two college film makers as a college project so they have no budget but if you watch it in the spirit it's intended you will surely enjoy itLire l'avis complet...

Good for a joke !

I do not like this movie because it's the worst movie I ever started watching, but could not continue watching.
Years ago I rented this movie on TAPE to watch with my family. As we started watching it ( it was so bad ), that my wife could not stand it, and got up and left to wash the dishes; then my son got up and went outside to play; then my daughter finely could not stand it, and got up and went to her room. I finely could not take it, and shut it off, rewound it and returned it to the video store. This is the only movie we have never seen from beginning to end.
Since then, this movie has been the family joke.

A true science-fiction classic.

This is a childhood favorite, although it predates my birth by a decade. This film was the starting point for two great names in the film industry, John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon. I highly recommend this for fans of the genre for several reason, (1) It's a classic (2) It's hilarious (3) and it features Low-Budget creatures at their finest. I read John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon's draft script for Dark Star on the Simply Scripts website and was intrigued with the concept.
