Cuisinart is a little more complicated!
This is the second of products similar to the first brand. The first one I owned was Faberware grill/griddle press. It was a simple appliance on/off and temperature control. This Cuisinart griddler has on / off control for griddle and grill. The griddle knob and the grill knob have temperature control on them. Now if you accidentally have the grill turned on while using the griddle you can get a electrical shock. Now back to the uses for the griddle I've used it to cook fried bread, tortillas. Not impressed
I did allot of homework on this purchase. I was very excited after reading the reviews. It looks nice and seems built well but...
If it's not on high it takes forever to cook something and the top lid,if you use it to grill top and bottom at the same time, has a design flaw that makes the grease drip behind the machine onto whatever surface it is on. When using it flat or open to grill its drains into the pan. Otherwise grease is all over the counter behind it. For this reason you have to clean both plates instead of pouring some water on it while it's hot and wiping clean like you can with most other grills. I wouldn't recommend it for these reasons. Panini press/griddle

Wonderful
I just replaced an old grill that was approx 20 years old. I like this model because it is way lighter and it has a flat and ribbed grills. I have been using it everyday to make sandwiches.

Cook on both sides now!
This exceeded our expectations. What a surprise. The grill cooked our food so fast it didn't dry up the meat like cooking on one side does. Cooking meat on both sides is the only way to grill. I know purist will say it taste better to cook meat on a traditional grill, they are wrong.
