Best of The Mechwarrior flicks

This is a review of The movie and not so much about any particular release. The movie was released on VHS tape primarily. The Dvd's are almost nonexistent and the laserdisc's are extremely rare also.<br>
Now first off let me say that this is not a great movie. Its not perfect by anymeans but, it does have its charms and the overall effect and atmosphere of the movie works very well. The special effects are a mixed bag but are good overall. The special effects with the Giant robot is very good.

The storyline is tripe: The ozone layer is gone and the Earth is baking and while all this is happening a super corperation takes over the earth. Fortunenately The story does not hang on any of these points as they are incidental. If you just think of this as a Post Disater type flick and forget the particulars it works.

The story takes place in a world largely depopulated and baking in the sun. The political power is concentrated in an Organisation called Unicom which has ceased world power and has outlawed private use and ownership of computers and robots. There is resistance to the new order though. Mostly its just talk though. Its mostly a passive aggressive type of resistance (pirate TV and radio stations). There is one such pirate TV station sitting out in the wastelands in an abandoned powerstation. The owner plays by the rules in the day time and transmits politcally correct programming but at night he is transmitting Anti Unicom messages. Unknown to him he has a traitor working for him and he and his friends are in grave danger. Unicom has secrets too and one of them is at the abandoned power station.
The atmosphere and sense of post apoccolyptic disaster is put across very well. Even though They sit out in a huge installation out in the middle of no-where there is this claustrophobic feel to the flick. The charachters in the flick are believable and the acting is Quite good. Ralph Waite plays the Rebellious TV station owner and Megan Ward plays his niece and does some good acting here as well. The rest of the crew does a fair to good job. The movie is exciting and will keep you in anticipation when the truth of whats going on starts to close in on everyone.
This is a good flick all the way around and I reccomend it to anyone who likes good sci fi and or Robot Flicks. Its hard to get a good copy of this movie though! I have it in all 3 formats but its extremely hard to find The laserdisc and almost impossible to find the DVD. Get the VHS tape and if you like it try and get a hold of the laserdisc. The laserdisc looks good even on todays widescrenn LCD screens.
About The DVD. It was released in a limited edition compilation by the director that has long since been discontiued. If you can find one grab it!

Don't try this one out!

This is the sort of movie that breaks your heart. You look on the front cover, and expect an entertaining addition to your Sci-Fi Actioner collection.Instead, as life would have it, you get a crummy, worthless piece of gum stuck on your shoe for movie that looks like it was shot on a poloroid video camera. The dialogue stinks, the charecters are laughable, and the plot is nowhere near as intricate as it makes itself out to be. I'm sorry to say avoid to anyone else who's going to be disappointed, like me.Lire l'avis complet...
