Cradle of Filth Peace Through Superior Firepower GREAT

Horst: In March 2006 the bad boys from Cradle Of Filth will unleash a new album, but to keep their fans busy in the meantime a new DVD recently has been released, entitled 'Peace Through Superior Firepower'. And me thinks the fans will be pretty pleased by this product, for it does not matter whether it is the wrapping, control or content: everything breathes that specific Cradle atmosphere of decadence, decay and rot, all of this divided in to three major themes.

The DVD opens with Target…Paris, the show the band performed April 2nd 2005 in the Elysée Monmartre (Paris, France) as part of the 'Nymphetamine' tour. I must say it all looks rather nice. A well filled hall with a crowd that enthusiastically reacts to an interesting setlist played by a band that is not afraid to put in a lot of theatre. The usual dancing/crawling girls, men on stilts, trapeze artists plus a healthy doses of light and fire all make it fun to watch. On the other hand, I do think a lot of the music and sound has been patched up in the studio afterwards. I mean, I have seen this band enough live myself to know that they almost never reproduced such a full and well-balanced sound as on this DVD, and nobody in their right mind will believe that Dani's voice remains intact the whole show. Oh well, in the end it is better this way, for it makes the ride a lot more comfortable then again have to watch something as awful as their disastrous performance at the Waldrock Festival (Holland) in 2004.

Too bad I can't say the same of the bonus material - entitled Reinforcements – on this DVD. The so-called shockumentary Postcards From Vulgaria is nothing more than a bunch of toilet humour combined with images and sound bytes from and in the studio, and as exciting as watching the grass grow. The same can be said of the signing session in the Virgin Megastore (Virgin On The Stupid), which probably is only fun to watch when you / friends / family were actually present. Pretty much ridiculous is putting away the URL of the CoF homepage (and nothing more!!!) under a special chapter. Next to this the obliged photo gallery has been added, but lucky enough Cradle have made a choice from their rich portfolio of nasty pics, so you don't have to watch the same old boring bandpics again. The real bonus however on this DVD is the chapter Extra Rounds: Video Propaganda, under which you will find six videoclips, which of course is a nice treat.

All in all a DVD that is a must for the real fans (for they will just ignore my comments), but also the metal fans that dig a bit of theatre in live shows will probably enjoy this sucker.

Wow!!!!

It has a blistering live set and they pull off these songs flawlessly. Almost identical to a studio recording.
And Sarah is great, but she kinda killed Nymphetamine. Not sure if she can't hit the notes the other girl
made, or just wanted to do her own version. The live show has all kinds of bizarre stage characters such
as "living" Gargoyles, metal grinding performers, a gigantic puppet of Death and even a chick doing that
thing where they twirl around on a long piece of silk hanging from above. I said bizarre!!
The set covers new and old material. The songs played are:

Gilded C***
Nemesis
Mannequin
The Black Goddess Rises
A Gothic Romance
Her Ghost in the Fog
Nymphetamine
Tortured Soul Asylum
The Forest Whispers My Name
The Promise of Fever
13 Autumns and a Widow
Mother of Abomination
From the Cradle to Enslave

The bonus features are a "Shockumentary" which is neither a documentary nor shocking. It's really just stuff
they filmed while on the road & recording. Fireworks, pranks, men kissing and even the drinking of Fox urine.
There's also a pointless video of an autograph signing, photo slideshow and the following music videos:

Her Ghost in the Fog
No Time To Cry
Babalon AD
Mannequin
Promise of Fever
Nymphetamine

All in all I'd say if you like the band, get it. But buy it for the live show & music videos. If you're expecting an
actual "Some Kind of Monster" or "Killadelphia" style DOCUMENTARY like I was, then you'll be disappointed.
