the Comic Book Encyclopedia, it's a pretty solid buy.

This book spans more than seventy years, and within its pages you will find the origins of Superman and the X-Men, the real reasons to buy this book is the look at underground comic gurus like Robert Crumb, foreign sensations like Tintin, and individual writers and artists who changed the landscape of comics forever. a generalized overview of major milestones in comics history with the opening time line or just flip through the book for Archie, Casper, Batman, Wonder Woman, and all the rest as you get hooked on the history of art-driven storytelling -- and never look at a comic book or graphic novel the same way again!

as it says on the cover, "Nearly 400 BIG pages!", i.e., it's not quite four hundred pages. That's not enough space for in-depth treatment, it's made a bit more cramped by those beautiful illustrations (which, I must say, it would be a shame to lose.). The articles are mostly short, and characters one would have thought important enough for their own entries are reduced to mentions in broader entries. (Bugs Bunny, for instance, is barely mentioned in the "Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies" entry.) This is a good, fun book nevertheless, but possibly a better choice for the reader just getting seriously interested in comics, than for the established fan who already has an in-depth knowledge of the field.

If you're getting this book for hardcore reference material I would be careful. I literally had discovered in the book discovered a handful of mistakes. This is a big, beautiful, richly illustrated book that covers a lot of territory-the history and development of comic books and graphic novels. This may make a good gift book for someone just getting started but for the pro it's pretty standard not so much anything special.Lire l'avis complet...

Comic Encyclopedia isn't that great

I wanted to learn about comics and this seemed the way to get alot of information quickly. It was very limited in information but rich in pictures. It was alright for a quick read but I wouldn't buy it.Lire l'avis complet...
