Spielberg should stick to directing.
Steven Spielberg's novelization of his own screenplay is overall pretty decent, but cannot surpass the amazing visual experience of the film. Not helping matters much is the fact Spielberg for whatever reason chose not to do paragraph breaks for different characters' dialog. So in some instances you'll have more than one character talking in the same paragraph. Spielberg usually identifies the speaker properly so it isn't too confusing, but nonetheless it is a very odd choice especially given the weighty length of some of the conversations. Spielberg I think should stick to screenwriting and directing, not to writing novels, even of his own scripts.
I did however like the usual elements granted the reader by a novelization, such as character backstories and added scenes. In particular I liked the revelation of the fate of the one overeager cop whose car flew off a cliff while chasing the flying saucers. In the movie, the other characters (including his own brother officers) just sort of forget about him, but the novel deals with the aftermath of the chase nicely and reveals what became of him.Lire l'avis complet...
