Lots of fun!

I bought this movie for my 3 sons, ages 10, 6, & 3. My oldest son reads the books, so he's familiar with the idea. To be honest, I don't think he enjoyed it as much as the younger 2 boys did, but they absolutely LOVE it. It's the movie they ask to watch the most. It's not super long, just enough for them to have fun without dragging out the story line. In the movie, there are lots of opportunities to make choices (such as stay in a plane that's running out of fuel or parachute out). Unlike the books, no one dies from the choices they make, so it's nice even for very young children. There are several different endings and it's fun mixing up the choices as you go through the story and seeing what ending you get. I think most kids would love this movie because it's all up to them to decide what happens. I don't regret buying it and would recommend it to others looking for a fun movie.Lire l'avis complet...

Fun for families, + way to teach kids critical thinking

Editorial Review From Amazon:

Amazon.com
Innovative use of new technology has given rise to a truly original video adventure in which viewer choice determines both the characters' course of action and the very outcome of their journey. Based on the Choose Your Own Adventure book series, the new CGI animated Choose Your Own Adventure: The Abominable Snowman begins with the three North siblings, Benjamin (Frankie Muniz), Crista (Lacey Chabert), and Marco (Daryl Sabara), who are following their Uncle Rudy (William H. Macy) to the Himalayas in Nepal on a quest to find the elusive Yeti (Abominable Snowman). Before the kids even arrive in Nepal, viewers are called upon to decide with their remote control whether the group should parachute out of a malfunctioning plane or ride out a tough emergency landing. Once in Nepal, the group's path necessitates making a multitude of choices between opposing actions. Should they choose the conservative or adventuresome path? Follow a trusted guide or an apparently well-meaning stranger? Choose personal comfort or tenacious perseverance to the quest? Unlike most video games and interactive DVD features, there are no "wrong" decisions; each of the choices leads to a full length, yet distinct adventure with viewer's choices determining the very outcome of the adventure. In fact, viewers can potentially watch the movie eleven times and experience a different scenario with a varying outcome each viewing.
An excellent 28-minute bonus feature details life in Nepal and features real photography of Nepal's citizens going about their daily lives intermixed with interviews and footage of students from Seattle's Hamilton International Middle School and students in their sister school Kaveresthali in Katmandu, Nepal. The entire feature is accompanied by informative narration by Kate Fleming that touches upon Nepal's topography, customs, food, transportation, forms of employment, and primary religions. Other bonus features include a music video of the theme song and a behind the scenes featurette featuring actor and producer commentaries about the making of the show, individual characters, and the immense research that contributed to the authenticity of the program. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Lots of Fun! Great for kids and their parents!

I purchased the movie to watch with preschool age children. It was lots of fun. However, the decisions had to be made at real time speed, which was way too fast for the children to decide. Some of our choices resulted in the story ending way too fast. It would have been way too complicated for them, but together, it was a blast. I keep looking for other CYOA DVDs!Lire l'avis complet...

So good that I got 2

Still wondering why I did that, but that says more about me than the DVD.

Choose Your Own Adventure-- Abominable Snowman DVD

My kids loved it!! (Ages 3 to 13) They also thought it was awesome that no matter what they chose, they didn't die! They went back again and again to make different choices to see how it affected the outcome. They are looking forward to watching more of these!Lire l'avis complet...
