The dvd was excellent, but the story and people are outdated now.

FANTASTIC! A true classic! Musicals were such joyful entertainment and I sure wish they would revive them, though I'm not sure that today's culture would appreciate them. THIS IS A GIFT I BOUGHT FOR MY WIFE FOR CHRISTMAS!WE ENJOY WATCHING THE OLD MUSICALS. I LOVE THIS MOVIE AS I AM A VERY BIG FAN OF SHIRLEY JONES! I ALWAYS HAVE LOVED TO HEAR HER SING AND ACT. MY WIFE HAS QUITE A COLLECTION OF THESE TYPE OF MOVIES!! I STILL HAVE A COUPLE MORE TO BUY AND SHE WILL HAVE ALL OF THE RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN COLLECTION.WE HAVE ENJOYED MANY HOURS WATCHING AND REMEMBERING OUR CHILDHOOD WHEN OUR PARENTS WOULD PLAY THE MUSIC ON THE RECORD PLAYER!! Darker Musical

This is one of the "dark" musicals because of the outcome.
It deals with crime and the after-life- - not normal subject matter for a musical.
Shirley Jones did an excellent job with her part in this musical.
Some of the musical numbers grow on you after awhile.
I saw this musical live and wondered how good the movie was- - it was way better than the live version I saw.
