My Third Canon

I like Canon equipment.
I have an older ELF and it's starting to make a noise like it might want to die, so I though I'd buy another Canon. "shirt pocket" camera.

The A1000 is a good camera with all the features needed, but I am still at a loss for what I used to call "having the ability to paint a picture" by using focus and depth of feild. This is something that eludes these pocket cameras. And the other BIG thing that eludes is recovery time. THe recovery time between shutter clicks is at times very long and thus anoying. (Another way to say I missed a photo I really wanted while waiting for the camera to catch up.) OK, I know. Spend more money and get the features. But then you have a larger camera or a two volume instruction manuel about pressing two buttoms at the same time to effect the focus. Arg.....I can't do that. My fingers are too fgat, and I'll miss the shot again.

But I guess I'll get use to it or they'll come out with stronger batteries and beter bhyte readers that recycle faster. Am tyaking this camera to Greece and Paris in a ew weeks, so we'll see what we'll see. Wish me luck!Lire l'avis complet...

A good travel companion

If you travel to a third world country, this is your best companion.
A point and shoot camera lets you take quick photos unobstrusively.
It is powered by the commonest of all batteries : AA size.
It records on the most universal memory card : the SD.
It is not too big (like SLR models)or too small (like tiny pocket models)and allows your hand a firm, steady grip.
It has an optical viewfinder when broad daylight and sunshine render the LCD screen useless.

Bought two - happy with one

I bought two. The first one had such a low price I jumped at it without reading the description that included "for parts or repair". I don't know if I could ever use it for parts and I probably wouldn't spend the extra money to have it repaired.

The second camera is what I gave the attached rating for which I am pleased. I use this camera regularly. My only problem so far is that it indicates "replace battery". I have learned that the batteries, which are the over the counter type, are actually still charged. There must be a problem with the camera's sensor of the level of the battery. A newer model of the Canon Power Shot caught my eye at Costco, which was on sale for $50 off the $149 price, but I thought I could get a comparable, less sophisticated used camera of the same model on eBay. I think the higher level of megapixels is overrated, unless real professional quality is the objective. So I am pleased with the purchase and will use eBay for future purchased when I need something. It's worth your while to investigate products.

The A1000 is not the latest model from Canon but selecting it was well worth the 30-45 minutes it took me to browse some reviews on the internet. I subscribe to Consumer Reports and its worth every penny of the cost. The A1000 received high marks from CR so I searched out other reviews from other sources. All concluded that this camera, even though it has been superseded by newer models, has some extremely attractive features.
The picture quality is very good for a 10 megapixel camera. It's small, light-weight, easy to set-up, and has a robust set of features. I bought it because my DSLR is sometimes just too big and bulky for events like weddings, banquets, and the like.
My experience in taking indoors and outdoors pictures with the A1000 has so far been very good. The refurbished kit I purchased on eBay included the camera, memory card, a cleaning kit, a portable tripod, and the batteries. I was ready to take pictures 5 minutes after opening the box. Excellent camera for the occasional photo enthusiast

I bought the Canon Powershot A1000 IS 10 Megapixel camera because I got a great deal on it, it's fairly easy to use, and because I can download pics to my computer or directly to my printer with ease. This is my first digital camera, and I'm very happy with the results that I have gotten so far. Because I only use it occasionally, battery life is not an issue for me, although according to the reviews I have read, it is not for the avid photographer. It is compact and works well with a tall tripod, and the anti red-eye is perfect for my use. I'm by no means an expert, but this camera is exactly the right fit for me. I would recommend it as the beginning camera for anyone interested in a light, compact, do it all unit, or for those not too electronically inclined like myself. Canon PowerShot A1000

Great little camera. While I haven't tested yet. I was under the assumption that it was beat up and broken. I believe once I put batteries in it it will work. I bought this piticular camera about 12 or 13 years ago brand new and it is a great camera. Great picture quality and it even takes video footage. I lost all the accessories that came with the camera including the software. So I bought this one off of ebay for all of the accessories. Only issue I see is that someone left batteries in it too long and the metal in the battery compartment started to corrode. 10 MP digital camera with video

Pros: The day pictures are amazingly nice. lightweight. uses regular AA battteries (but they will not last long unless you buy NI-MH).

Cons: The price is not all that affordable. It comes with a silly 32 MB SD-card (i.e. useless) so you WILL need to buy right away a 2-8 GB SD-card.

You MUST also buy rechargeable High capacity NI-MH alkaline batteries, 2900 mAh, otherwise you will be frustrated waiting for flash to charge and regular AA will not last long.

Night and low light pictures come out dark. The face recognition is a plague if you are taking pictures of a crowd of people at night. It is also very hard to get the flash light where you want it (the face of the person you are taking pictures of).

Instead of two separate buttons one for camera and one for video, there is a ring that you need to move to switch between camera and video (not very useful).Lire l'avis complet...

GREAT camera for the money! SUPER close up shots!

It's amazing the quality of pics and video you get from this camera for such a low cost. Image stabilization as well helps take the perfect picture!

I purchased this camera mainly to take photos of items I sell on eBay. The MACRO feature on this camera is amazing. This is a GREAT camera to purchase for taking close up pictures for listing items on eBay - your buyers will be VERY happy that you did so they can see what they are bidding on, and you'll actually get MORE money for your items that you'll pay for the camera in no time!

The only FAULT I see in this camera is that is does not come with a built-in rechargeable battery, so either bring extras with you on a trip, or get yourself some rechargeable AA's so that you don't spend too much on the alkalines.

Love this camera!!!

This canon is very compact and takes a great picture. It is so easy to use. I had a much more expensive canon camera that was given to me as a gift a few years ago. The power shot far surpases that one. The older one was bulky and took to long to take the shot. By the time it would take the shot, the moment had passed. This one is great with it's auto focus and face detection. It zero's right in on what you are shooting and quickly takes the shot. I cannot say enough about this camera. Best camera I have ever owned and it's a bargain.

I still can't believe how GREAT this sleek easy to handle camera is!!!! If you can't tell I'm still so excited! I can shoot a bird all the way up to the top of power lines a few houses away and tell you what color it's eyes are! What a FANTASTIC camera this is.
